Michel
Can you expand on this NRC scan and whether they regularly partake in these activities? You would think the MTO or the in-house mechanics would have the last word.

All I know is they took a scan of the bus to see the integrety of the frame and it came out as too corroded.

You would think the MTO or the in-house mechanics would have the last word. From what I've heard, the NRC uses ultrasound technology to check the condition of the body and provide the results without actually taking the bus apart. Why would the fuel tank be removed and why would a bag of fuel be hanging on the fueling door?

902
I have no idea. It may be, but it also may be just to hint to OC that they should remove them from the fleet soon? With what buses? OC has made some pretty stupid mistakes with bus orders lately. Maybe they should spend the money and fix what they have instead of buying a bunch of lemons. (D60lfr's) It would be cheaper for them and it would get better use out of the current fleet.
JCL
Why would the fuel tank be removed and why would a bag of fuel be hanging on the fueling door? An item that was forwarded to me explaining about the initiative did say that they wouldn't have to take the bus apart. As to why they removed the fuel tank, I don't know why they would do that. And if the Transit Commission approves the double decker purchase next month (75 units), it looks like the remaining fleet of Orion VI (as well as 20 Nova LFS's) will retire, as that equates to 158 first-generation low floor buses to be retired (excluding bus 4083 that Enviro_1203 mentioned). M.Wright
Thats what I heard. Is it possible that the scanner used could ignite fuel?If it's ultrasound, from what JCL said, no it cannot light the fuel on fire. If it could, they wouldn't use it to observe baby's before they are born. But maybe the NRC didn't want to take any chances, as if the bus did catch on fire while they are responsible for it, then it would be their fault. By removing the tank, then there is no risk.

Enviro_1203
Did you take that picture? Yup. Went by the garage yesterday. Honestly, when I saw the damage, I was shocked, cause from the pic that someone posted on the MyNews on CTV, it didn't look that bad, it was just smoking. But I guess that was cause it was the before the fire fully started.
8792
Maybe most of the Orion VIs will only be retired after they catch fire.
Enviro_1203
I have recieved confirmation that buses 4011 and 4104 have been retired. Also, while passing the garage on a bus this morning going to Hurdman, from Elmvale (for those who think I camp infront of the garage, I don't ), I saw a 411x on a body shop hoist retired. Enviro_1203
I have recieved news from a contact that bus 4035 caught fire on Tuesday. I will have more information about it's fate hopefully tomorrow, if not, early next week after Labour Day. If the damage is as bad as the recent Orion VI fires, it is almost certain retirement. *POST TO BE EDITED AS SOON AS INFO BECOMES AVALIABLE*
