Felix
Did just that today! Funny how they stand at a "closed" front door, looking at you, while the rear door is "open" (override) and everyone else is exiting that way. I just let them stand there, while I look in the mirror at the rear door. It takes awhile, but yes, they do finally figure it out! I wonder whether a memo was sent out. It seems that today, compared with other days, there were more drivers encouraging passengers to exit through the rear using this exact method. When used in action, it's pretty effective. Plus, it's always interesting to see the reaction on people's faces when drivers do that.

Can you explain how using the front door to disembark is a safety issue? I've driven a bus for over two years now and have never had a safety concern for someone exiting by the front door. People who leave through the centre door are less likely to run out in front of the bus and get hit by cars. Isn't that reason enough, I'm tired of watching people put thier lives in some one elses hands, and driving out of the university and by WCI it happens all the time, sorry, used to happen all the time

The issue at hand is passenger safety. Though that is a valid point, but for those stuck at the front to work all the way to the back is just a hastle. 902
Can you explain how it is more efficient to have people leave through the front and back doors when the bus is packed with people and a group is waiting to get in at the front? I believed I all ready answered that question. See below. Seriously what is the big deal with people exiting by the front door? For example a packed bus pulls to a stop and some of the people standing near the front want off....do you honestly expect them to try to squeeze their way back to use the back door? No! That is ridiculous, they will use the front door because it is easier to access. The people at the stop can wait a couple seconds longer so the passengers can safely disembark. Also from a drivers perspective I usually find the front doors faster to open and close anyway so by them exiting the front door saves time. People who leave through the centre door are less likely to run out in front of the bus and get hit by cars. Isn't that reason enough, I'm tired of watching people put thier lives in some one elses hands, and driving out of the university and by WCI it happens all the time, sorry, used to happen all the time Valid point but I've had passengers do that getting off at the rear door too. They walk towards the front while I'm boarding passengers and still cross out in front. If theres no one boarding yes you may be able to pull away before they get the chance to but it's still possible to happen. Unfortunately people are getting stupider by the day. Common sense isn't common anymore.

Though that is a valid point, but for those stuck at the front to work all the way to the back is just a hastle. If they're smart enough they'll make thier way to the centre door when they get on the bus! Full or empty this rule is there for a reason, and I stand by it! I, for one, don`t want to spend the rest of my career mentally watching some one get hit by a car and dying every time someone gets off the bus, because one person didn`t want the hassle of trying to figure out how to "Wait for the green light, wave hand here". Greater Golden Horseshoe Transit
Just to add a little fuel to the fire, did we already forget that girl who died in St. Jacobs a year, or year and a half ago?? This is exactly what happened, off Route 21 bus through front door, ran in front of bus and moving pick-up truck, that was the end of that. The media never reported what happened, but I was working spareboard at the garage when the radio call came in from the operator on the 21. Situations like that are exactly what I am talking about, also a few years ago there were 3 or 4 ppl who got hit running for the bus through traffic down at Homer-Watson and Conestoga Bvld, different situation I know but resuls are the same. D4500
And i am sure people have been hit by cars exiting the rear doors and crossing behind the bus on a 1 lane road. Not that I've ever seen!!!!
Greater Golden Horseshoe Transit
There is something to be said for due diligence and making a reasonable effort. If the operator simply lets everyone out the front door willy-nilly as happens 95% of the time I personally believe that if they cross the street in front of the bus and get hit by another vehicle there may be some liability there (you know there's got to be some nut out there who would sue...read spilling coffee on one's self and suing restaurant) even though it is stated in the local traffic by-laws that crossing in front of a transit bus is illegal; but if nothing else there's remorse running around in the operators mind after the fact (could I have done something differently to have prevented this). If the operator makes every reasonable effort to have people exit from the rear doors and the person still crosses the street and gets hit by another vehicle anyways at least the operator can say they made every effort and the passenger is indeed a complete moron. But if the operator makes no effort, when the signage in the bus and the operator policy manual clearly state people should exit at the rear (and actually, it does state that they should exit at rear with the exception of school specials unloading at schools since no one will be boarding) then I believe there may be some blame (if only on their conscience, if not in court) to go onto the operator in that case. D4500
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/36310494/ns/...us-he-survives/Unless the driver verbally or physically signals the person that they can cross in front of the bus, there is no possible way to hold the driver responsible for ones stupid actions outside of the bus. Does every driver at GRT enforce this? I cant even recall the last time I've herd of or seen a operator in any of the GTA systems tell people to exit via the rear doors. And then of coarse because he's an idiot for running in front of a moving car, instead if waiting for a clear spot in traffic, the bus company and the poor driver of the car get sued.... Stupid Americans!!!! "Gee, I'm dumb and did something stupid so it must have been your fault because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. So who's really the stupid one here, you are sucker!!!!" I have absolutly NO sympathy for this guy! Sorry to offend you if I did... actually I'm not sorry at all!
