SounderBruce
I'd rather have them (and most pre-2000 buses) out of service. Had to ride 2 of CT's oldest 40-footers without AC today. It was stifling. 3 hours ago, 19adam99 said: On April 9th, my friend and I were out and saw 9116C on the 512... Is it a usual thing for the middle of the day to have 40fts on the 512? AND not to mention, it was on S. Royal Bougham Way turning onto 6th Ave. Kinda strange for the 512. It's very common to see Gilligs on the 512 right after morning peak or right before afternoon peak. Most of the time, they're coming from/going to a run of the 513 (which sometimes warrants a double-decker, but other times is a fairly quiet route). Either they're in service, or they aren't (stored for future use, contingency, or pending sale). And if they're in service, it counts against your spare ratio, which has to be kept below a certain level. EDIT: The guidance for "spare ratio" on the FTA procurement site notes that you cannot count your maximum service need as what would be "atypical days" .... for instance, your worst of peak periods noted above. Of course, if they bought the new equipment and targeted a spare ratio below 20%, and keeping the 4 beater D60LFs keeps them under the 20% ratio, then I guess it all works out. You are allowed a spare ratio to account for maintenance, Not sure what the exact number on that is, but its at least 10%. You are also allowed a reserve fleet, typically with vehicles that are beyond their FTA lifespan. The exact number of I'm not sure how that is calculated. If I remember right you can merge the reserve fleet into your spare ratio as well for a higher overall spare ratio. the FTA can also issue a waver of exception if you have an excess of new equipment, say for example after service cutbacks. Don't quote me as an official source on any of that however because I'm sure you can make a career out of all the nuances of managing equipment purchased with FTA funds. busdude.com
Sound Transit Gilligs #9112 and #9113 appear to have been reassigned from Community Transit to Pierce Transit. The 9112 is working the 566 and the 9113 is working the 590 this evening. Also C40LF #9408 is out in service as well on the 590. #9412 was out earlier today but does not appear to be active. These appear to be the last two left in service.

The Gillig Low Floor CNGs do NOT operate on weekends, the 560 is the only route running 40' buses on the weekends and 9/10 times it's a 2008 Phantom, other than that it's ALL MCI's on the other routes. SounderBruce
Note that this is, again, a draft and may be subject to changes before final board approval during the June 23 meeting (and more changes during the June 2 special meeting). Overall, I'm happy with the accelerated timelines, but disappointed that they're still pushing the clearly inferior Paine Field diversion. The proposed plan from April was so much better, with lower costs, higher ridership, lower travel times, and preservation of service without disrupting everyone in Downtown Everett who doesn't want to visit Boeing. Blue Bus Fan
I personally the spur would be reasonable. But could the federal funding change the line routing from diverting to Paine Feild? But I think the spur to Paine Feild is more realistic.

The current alignment (with the line making those sharp turns to Paine Field) is sadly more realistic because it has a ton of political and economic power behind it (the Snohomish County delegation to the board as well as the Economic Alliance). Federal funding is going to do nothing, unless it comes up too short to pay for Paine Field, in which case the spur might be considered seriously in the EIS process. busdude.com
http://murphyauction.com/Auction/Details/4783 It would appear that 9508 9510 and 9513 are done with their Sound Transit service. Usually sold in absentia means they no longer run, i wonder if they need attention, or if they just did not bother to get them fired up for the drive to the auctions. As a side, 9508 was the first official ST coach in service on route 594 on 6/8/99. 9507 was the other artic out that day. Both were operated by Pierce Transit at the time, and transferred to Community Transit in November of 2005 after the arrival of the MCI's.

The opening of UW & Capitol Hill stations was timed to take place one week before the Spring service shakeup... and the Fall service shakeup is scheduled for September 10. Now that said... unlike UW & Capitol Hill stations there's no major bus route restructuring planned for when Angle Lake opens (it really should be named "Big Parking Garage station") so there's no big reason to wait to open the station. If it shares the same core components as other vehicles, you have in service and you still need it for revenue or non revenue service...

It doesn't since Sound Transit has retired the rest, 2000 D60LF and is operated by Community Transit which doesn't have any ST D60LF.
busdude.com
Chances are its probably gone, however lone survivors can hold out for some time. The last two ST C40LFs (9406 and 9412) were retired a month after the 3 before it, which was 6 months after the fleet type started to be retired. And doesn't FT run some 2003 D60LFs with the series 50 as well?

I know the CT side is still running 20000 series D60LF's, and might still have a few 8800's floating around.

The early 9000s Gilligs always looked to be in great shape and held up pretty well up until retirement.
