G.A
This is quite soon and much earlier than what we saw with Nova Bus. Cause Flyer is not choked up with Metrolinx orders anymore. Stuff will come in earlier now.

GMoldlook
So...anyone have any word yet on what the final decisions for the route adjustments will be this September? Did they decide that at the recent budget meetings?
2281
There is still another round of consultations to go but I imagine there will be even more iXpress. Bitches love iXpress.

TC60102N
Preferred 2015 Transit Service Improvement Plan I don't believe it, two of those routes look like they actually make sense. Could this be an April Fools joke ? Whats more shocking is that this is a transit improvement that does not cater to the freeloading UW/WLU students who abuse their bus pass beyond belief. (Yes! I know they pay for it in their tuition, but riding the bus one stop, multiple times every day is retarded)
Transit 20
i agree with you on the university kids and yeah the planners said the changes will happen in september.
2281
I certainly hope it's an April Fools joke. The downtown routings are an eyesore and a nightmare for those with mobility issues who need to transfer.
mpd618
The downtown routings are an eyesore and a nightmare for those with mobility issues who need to transfer. I can understand, if not agree with, the second point. But - an eyesore? What?
kt808
Actually it does cater to the university students, in that one of the initial proposals was to discontinue both the 7D and 7E branches that go into the UofW. All rte 7 northbounds would go straight up King to Conestoga Mall with 7.5m weekday peak service intervals. That got squashed in the early rounds of consultations by all the complaints of students having to walk 500m across campus to the 9/13/Ixpress stop at the Davis Centre. They also wanted to streamline all the 7 legs into Fairview into two or maybe even just a single routing (vie King/Montgomery/Weber/Fairway). The Connaught leg was going to be serviced by a revised rte 8, and Wilson to a new rte 23. Too bad they didn't continue with this idea and rationalize route 7. Would have made a proper 'Mainline' route after all these years.

Read the report (page 64) for their reasoning on this, though. They're backing off for now due to the complexity of the current construction detours, but are planning to go full steam on those rationalizations in 2017. kt808
Yes you are quite correct. I managed to get out to the final PIC last Wednesday and spoke with one of the region's transit planners. He confirmed GRT is holding back on rationalizing rte 7 due to everyone already being confused by the ION detours. But they will be doing serious revisions to both the 7 and 8 routes once the LRT starts rolling in 2017.

BT Invero
they should have combined the 23 and 27, the 27 is too short and has low ridership in its current form.

transit 21
And how the fuck is that supposed to work? 52 would cover Freeport Health Crt. - more than enough room to send a bus to the front door of the hospital 23 would cover King, River, Grand River, Morrison, Quinte, Fairway, Sims Estate, Lackner, Zeller, and Ottawa St. to Stanley Park Mall. 2-way service. kt808
That 23/27 idea flies against GRT policy on future routings, so good luck with that. I've talked with planners, and with ION coming they are in the gradual process of straightening routes and keeping them on main streets. The idea is making it more like the TTC; having frequent service on major routes, not meandering in subdivisions, and getting riders used to transferring more often on streets (not at terminals). This 2015 service update is seeing the beginnings of this. The new 1-River/Queen removes the Becker extension from the current 1-Stanley Park (this holdover/compromise from the long dead Kitchener Transit 12 Rosemount bus should have been nuked long ago) and likewise rationalizes what the 25-Queen South does around Forest Heights neighbourhood. The new 204 Ixpress and the 20-Victoria/Frederick will not go into the Charles Street terminal, but initially will just because of the ION construction going on downtown right now. Also they are reducing the Hazelglen/Chopin extension off the Victoria St route (sadly not ending it, probably because of the Hazelglen Plaza). I know that may not be a popular idea with many current K-W transit users, but my own idea of transit use is you have to be part pedestrian when taking a bus. I'd rather walk 3 or 4 blocks to a bus stop that's serviced every 10-15 minutes and travels somewhat straight (and quicker) to my destination or transfer point, then have a bus stop near my door that runs every 30-45-60 minutes and mires around every suburgatory before getting to where I need to be. That kind of transit system just makes people want to drive, which is what GRT is trying to avoid.

Right now every stop / loop removal is on its own - there's a small benefit to the system, and a large local loss. If a local loss had a background of a large system-wide improvement (due to the same thing being done elsewhere), it would be a lot easier to swallow. The 8 isn't the only route being effected in that same way starting on the 22nd. Check the GRT Website if you need proof!
