FL04DIFN
The 239 or whatever route will go from Phibbs to Cap u once the rapid bus comes in place, has to use articulated buses. 2 bus wait at Phibbs this morning to get to Cap U. Maybe reduce amount of artics on the 49 to allow some to be transferred to BTC. Or perhaps extend the 27 and 160 to Cap as well
Express691
Speaking of R2, a brief mention by TransLink at this year's railvolution claims that the route has been delayed again to April 2020, citing construction delays. However, it may be as evident already as an extended bay at Phibbs hasn't been constructed yet.

DDR is Dedicated Disaster Response vehicle I believe. Basically in the event of an emergency buses may be used for shelter/transport to help people in need. Sometimes the code to display that message is entered by mistake, I've seen it around before and I know numerous other people have too.

Or perhaps extend the 27 and 160 to Cap as well With the shuttle going every 8 minutes and not having to come from Park Royal, it'll get better. The frequent 28-130-not239 will hopefully prevent some of those lineups that stretch across the exchange and cause the passups. Hopefully the design of the Exchange will help that too. They will have to try and schedule the new Capilano Shuttle so that it doesn't leave right before the 28, 130, 210, 211, and R2 show up, because that's what's always made me have to wait for two 239's. But, those buses come from across the bridge/across the North Shore, so they are only as consistent as the traffic in those places. The other problem is that CapU traffic maxes out at 830, 10, 1130, and 1, because of when classes are. The bridges are at about their limit in how fast they can get buses across. I don't know how the future Phibbs-Skytrain Express is going to work, because skipping the local stops in East Vancouver/North Burnaby by staying on the highway means that highway traffic jams will get in the way instead. Do you ever ride the 49??? If not I suggest you spend a few hours at E. 49 & Main & observe the loads on the route! This afternoon around 4pm I observed 4 in a row displaying "Sorry Bus Full" heading for Metrotown. The 49 is one of the busiest crosstown routes in Vancouver/Burnaby so removing artics from RTC to BTC won't happen! 2

Or perhaps extend the 27 and 160 to Cap as well The 160 is over 25 km long and is effectively like one of the trolley routes in Vancouver in terms of how many stops it has. It won't really work to extend it another few kms and risk Ironworkers traffic ruining everything. Extending the 27 has the possibility of working, though, on the condition that they pull a 130 and have only half of the trips going to the north shore for reasons of Ironworkers traffic 1 hour ago, dover5949 said: Are you serious about removing artics from the 49??? As great as R4 is going to be it'll barely take passengers off the 49, especially with the zone barrier still in effect between Joyce and Metrotown. If anything the 49 will get busier with the reroute through Wesbrook Village.

The question now becomes how many more people? The amount of time you save by moving up to 41st likely won't be that significant. For example, I have a choice between the 502 and the 503 going to Surrey Central, but I just take the first bus I see because the amount of time I would save by taking the 503 compared to the 502 is not significant. Besides, not all 49 riders are going to UBC. You've also got Langara which is another big destination along the route. Then you have those who need local stops. Most riders will still need a 49 anyways just to move up to 41st. I still argue that 49 during rush hour still needs to be witnessed. Besides, my take is that the 480 will continue to provide service, but during peak hours only. =========== Weren't we JUST talking about the 239?

The EB Cambie street stop have line ups that often go around the block and down Cambie st. Part-solution: 430 turns into Rapidbus, operates on 49th past Langara to Granville. Turns left, goes thru Marpole, across bridge, terminates at Bridgeport. A different Rapidbus provides service from Bridgeport to Brighouse along GC, passing KPU, then continues to either Steveston or down No. 3 Rd. And, a Rapidbus to go down Victoria, turn off at 54th, go down Argyle, 57th to Knight, and down to Knight & Marine. A lot to ask for, I know, but effectively solves most of South Van (and Richmond's) transit problems.

8010
Random thought but what about rerouting the 480 via Bridgeport, Knight, 49th, Marine, Dunbar, 41st, regular route to UBC? It doesn't make any sense to have it duplicate the R4 and it'll help alleviate some overcrowding along 49th.

It's very unlikely that significant numbers of current 49 riders will switch to the R4. Given that the 43 already runs until 10pm, most riders who would be willing to walk to 41st instead of 49th are already using it. As well, anyone south of 49 Ave would be unlikely to be unwilling to walk the extra distance. While theoretically some people could switch to the north-south routes, and then change to the R4 at 41st, that involves adding a transfer. And, east of Victoria Dr frequency on the north-south routes drops to the point where the extra waiting time wouldn't be worth it. And, with 41 Ave ending at Joyce, the 49 has a large section where the R4 won't be parallel to it anyway. 6 hours ago, 8010 said: Random thought but what about rerouting the 480 via Bridgeport, Knight, 49th, Marine, Dunbar, 41st, regular route to UBC? No one getting off a Highway 99 route at Bridgeport who wants to go to UBC is going to board a 480 that would first go east, which is the wrong direction, then fight it's way through the traffic nightmare of the Knight St bridge before finally turning west and heading towards UBC. And, you wouldn't relieve the east end of the 49, which has full loads right through to Metrotown. You would basically have a route that tries to relieve the 49, and meets the current 480 ridership pattern, but would do neither well.

It sounds like the R2 will fit into the exchange as-is, and the complete rebuild of the exchange will happen later.

Express691
The planners finally figured out the redundancy of EB 49th at Frederick and WB 49th at Chester and are closing them permanently on September 23. Context: both stops are literally nearside to Fraser street. In other news, 41/43/480 stop at west Blvd is permanently being moved to east Blvd. Same date. Also on September 23 for 95B 143 144 145 N35, SFU West Campus road is re-opened and the stops along there will serve the 95 B-Line (It wasnt like that before)... That's a lot for September 23.

I'm wondering if this is a major typo as the website does show that the 95 is supposed to stop at those stops but they're all cancelled. Also, why are there no frequency increases for the 96 (R1) in January? You'd think with the RapidBus launch and the fact that it's often crowded they'd do something to the route, I'd even be happy if they removed the Whalley Blvd stop from the route.
