They finally put up the simplest of ground queues at Surrey Central.

On the northbound side, there is no ground markings. However, the bus stop pole has been removed.

They need more of these cause people in Surrey and the North Shore don’t seem to know how to line up properly...

June Service Change

[...]

Final update for June:

23, 15, 50 are seasonal changes

319 - Weekday service improve to 6-7min (from 7-8min) 6-8pm northbound, to every 8-9min (from 10min) 8-10pm northbound, to every 10min (from 12min) 10pm-12am both directions, to every 20min (from 30min) 12am to end of service both directions; Sat service improve to every 10min (from 12min) 6-10am, to every 10min (from 12min) 5-8pm; Sun service improve to every 12min (from 15min) 1-5pm, to every 10min (from 15min) 5-8pm

345 - Northbound service improve to every 20min (from 30min) 5-6am, 9-10am

Maybe I should just write "improvements throughout the day" for 319...

And some preview for Sept changes... full changes will be posted later when schedule is more or less finalized

  • 246/249 split
  • 502/503 service change with improvement for service to Aldergrove
  • More improvements to 301 and 319
  • Running time changes to 239 (so North Shore B-Line will most likely not happen in Sept)

Was there something for the 153 or was the schedule just shifted a bit?

Also, do they still use the 6-digit codes to show upcoming schedules like the old method or is it more complicated now? Please don't post the method as I don't want TL to patch it.

I don't think any of the be B-Line's will launch in September.  The last board meeting mentioned November at the earliest due to construction delays.

The only route I know of for sure that HTC is getting in September is the 43 with only 18000 and/or 19000's.  Plans could still change, but it sounds like a done deal at this point.  The 340 and 130 to HTC have been talked about since it opened so who knows about those.

It does make sense to transfer 340 to HTC (in my opinion) because HTC is not just closet proximity to the route. But STC is sort of further for 340.

*I am not sure on other routes near HTC so i don't know about 130.

*I'm not a driver. But i do know some things!

Seems like the 319 will be getting service increases every sheet.

This might be slightly off topic but to help alleviate some pressure off the 319, should Translink reroute the 391 onto Scott Road as a peak hour express service option ? It should help out a bit till they sort out and implant the B-Line.

I'd argue against and say that the 391 is a method of relieving the 316 at Surrey Central as far as space is concerned. I think the 329 should instead be a shuttle with the hours from that re-invested into 319 expansion.

Or just wait until 2022 when that B-Line goes in.

Great news for Surrey. The 319 and the 502 have deserved some love for a long time. I just wish they would extend the 96 to White Rock...

Agreed!  As a user of the first morning NB 345, that is great news too.  Also, agree 100% with the commnet:  " I think the 329 should instead be a shuttle with the hours from that re-invested into 319 expansion."

If you want to relieve space at Surrey Central, extend the #96 to White Rock, then have the #321 bypass Surrey Central and stay on King George to Scott Road. There’s no daytime bus service on King George north of 104 Ave.

The extended 321 could still travel to Surrey Central as majority of those riders would switch over to the 96.

I was more looking at some way for either of the 2 (96/321) to run strictly between Newton and White Rock. You should see the number of people getting off between 64th and 56th.

If you're looking for a route to run only between Newton and White Rock then split the 321 at Newton, but I think short-turn trips from White Rock to Newton would make more sense.

153 schedule was blanked out in June sheet, but then it revert back to the original schedule.  It is currently blanked out in Sept sheet, so maybe the change is just delayed...?

And yes, still the same 6-digit code :)

June Service Change

[...]

N9 - Weekday, Sat, Sun all westbound short-turn to Lougheed cancelled; last downtown round-trip cancelled

Upon further inspection... the trips are still there. It just moved from being the last trips of the day to become the first trips of the next day.

There will be 9 EB trips and 7 WB trips instead of 8 each:

EB departures from Downtown: 4:15a, 2:05x, 2:25x, 2:45x, 3:05x, 3:45x

EB departures from Lougheed: 4:20a, 5:12a, 2:00x, 2:30x, 3:02x, 3:22x, 3:42x, 4:02x, 4:42x (note: the first trip of the next day will depart before the last trip of previous day)

WB departures from Coquitlam Central: 3:02a, 4:05a*, 4:35a*, 12:47x, 1:27x, 1:52x, 2:32x (* to Lougheed only... 3:02am is now the earliest trip system-wide?)

So... if your daypass had expired on this bus, it may still work on the next bus ;)

Found some information about route ridership in 2018. Source: https://buzzer.translink.ca/2019/04/10-busiest-bus-routes-in-metro-vancouver/

1. 99 Commercial–Broadway/UBC B-Line: 17,414,000 boardings
2. 49 Metrotown Station/Dunbar Loop/UBC: 9,327,000 boardings
3. 20 Victoria/Downtown: 8,718,000 boardings
4. 41 Joyce Station/Crown/UBC: 8,604,000 boardings
5. 25 Brentwood Station/UBC: 8,288,000 boardings
6. 16  29th Avenue Station/Arbutus: 7,910,000 boardings
7. 9 Boundary/Commercial–Broadway Station/Granville/Alma/UBC: 7,396,000 boardings
8. 5/6 Robson/Downtown – Davie/Downtown: 7,182,000 boardings
9. 3 Main/Downtown: 7,004,000 boardings
10. 95 SFU/Burrard Station B-Line: 6,808,000 boardings

I'm honestly surprised to see the 9 and the 5/6 up there because I don't remember them being overly busy routes. I thought the 351 might be up there though because there is always a huge lineup at Bridgeport for it. What I find funny is the fact that they are turning the 43 into a B-Line or shall I say Rapidbus but the 43 doesn't even have that much ridership

I'm sure they expect said route to capture many of the current 41 riders, and the 41 is 4th on the list!

Also, the 41 is the only option on 41st Avenue during the weekend, so it makes sense that the 43 isn't top 10. I think it's fair to say that 41st Avenue is the busiest transit corridor in the system that isn't already a B-line.

Every day at around 6pm when I walk by the 5 at Robson/Burrard, the inside looks completely packed.

Also, the 43 itself (at 2,595,000 boardings) might not be the busiest route, but the 41+43 together is at 11,199,000 boardings, which tops the 49 by nearly 2 million. The 41st Ave B-Line/RapidBus is planned to take over some of the capacity of the 41.

Because those routes have lower capacity and treat a fully seated load as a full bus. The incoming deckers will solve this problem in the short term. However I've noticed that not even the nova suburbans (or even any urban XD40/Nova LFS) leave SSP/R with at least half standees. Might get 1 or 2 in there and that's it.

Based on this, looks like HTC will need a couple more buses to accommodate the service increase. I suppose they will now see a slight increase in fleet?
