The Salt Lake City - Las Vegas run is gone . At this point, what is left at SLC, the one trip in each direction Portland - Denver?

One each way and that’s it. Is there an interline carrier out there at all? Jefferson is in Portland… maybe they will take it when the time comes? I doubt Burlington Trailways would want to run north out of Denver.

Edit:

Answered my own question. You now have two options for that run... You can get on Salt Lake Express which is an interline carrier I've heard of all of about once and take it to another Salt Lake Express schedule in St. George, Utah that will take you to Vegas... or drum roll please...

You can get on Flix in "Downtown Salt Lake City" and go to McCarran Airport in Vegas. Greyhounds website will sell you a ticket to get on Flix now... that bus makes 11 stops between the two cities. It won't show me which ones because apparently in an 8 hour run "It is generally not allowed to get off the bus". Thats what it says. Conversely they well sell you a Salt Lake Express ticket on Flix's site. The Flix buses are also operated by... Salt Lake Express.

4 hours ago, MCIBUS said:

I'm just curious?

Since Flix now owns Greyhound is it possible that the runs Greyhound is dropping and not replacing, is possible that their going to let Flix run these routes?

I don’t think that’s part of the plan. I have the feeling Flix figured Greyhounds interline partnership system is equivalent to what they do with their partner company on demand thing. It’s not really… two different mutually exclusive business models that are not compatible. What they could do I suppose is offer Greyhounds routes piecemeal to the partner carriers and just run the ticketing for everybody. Give the carriers 20 buses or something to help them start out. Then you have Flix bus traditional intercity edition.

More cuts to SLC

https://extranet.greyhound.com/Revsup/Schedules2/bulletins/30-22.pdf

https://extranet.greyhound.com/Revsup/Schedules2/bulletins/31-22.pdf

The Portland - Denver through run is discontinued. Two trip will be run between Denver and SLC, and one trip run between Boise and Portland. Looks like Salt Lake Express will run the night portion between Boise and SLC

What is left at SLC is the day and night trip to Denver now.

Through passengers headed to Cheyenne/Denver are rerouted via Spokane JL, to Buffalo, WY south on Express Arrow via Casper, WY. That with 4 transfers is actually faster than GH's previous through schedule. That should tell you how slow GH's run was, especially when they cut the Portland - Spokane run, and forced the Denver run to cover that to connect with the Seattle bus at Stanfield OR

Yikes... sounds like an experiment to me. It also sounds like they are gutting what little remains of their Mountain West operations. On the other hand 1 trip SLC to Denver is now two a day.

Classic GH playbook. Cut the unproductive segment in what would otherwise be a continuous corridor and a few year later reduce the truncated portion of the route as well due to decreased ridership

Its what happened to the northern transcon via I-90, SLC-SF, Las Vegas to SLC and north (pretty much SLE took over most of GH's operation in that area including to W Yellowstone), Denver to Chicago via I-80 etc.

Soon the Boise portion will be cut back to Stanfield - Portland as soon as they find a interline partner to do the Boise segment.

There may come a time when they are either east or west coast only or both I think. Either that or just states that border the ocean/Mexico with nothing in the middle at all.

I wonder if Trailways will start teir own Montreal to NewYork run since the pool service with Greyhound has ended?

Adirondack ran their own service (twice daily) into Montreal before they pooled with Greyhound.   They obtained their own rights in 1995, so I don't see why they wouldn't.  If not, other's would jump in, I'm sure...

Wow.. more competition in upstate NY. Its definitely well needed, fares were always high going up there

Wonder if GH and ADT/NYT have an agreement with the stations. Albany is owned by GH and Rochester is owned by NYT

It wouldn't make sense for them to build their own terminals, with the little service that remains nowadays.  Perhaps their own ticket office, but with online sales, don't even need that...

Not sure, but I believe the old Adirondack terminal still stands, in Albany, across the street from the 'new' one.   It could be remodeled if necessary, but I doubt it...

If they continue to interline (killing a pool DOES NOT mean they stop exchanging passengers by the side of the road somewhere) then the station arrangements should remain the same. In practical terms they simply stop using each others equipment and drivers to get one task done and do it all themselves.

They can both continue as members of the National Bus Traffic Association, which facilitates interline ticketing and reclaims, as well as baggage and bus package express service, as they have always done going back to the 1930's.   Even when competitor's.

The big change in the ending of the pool arrangement, was the pooling of revenue, which had ended competition between them.  Peter Pan was also in a pool agrreement with Greyhound after their fierce fare wars in the 1990's on the northeast corridor route, but Peter Pan opted out of that around 2016.   In Peter Pans's case, they never pooled equipment with Greyhound, just shared revenue on certain routes, and coordinated alternate schedules, as well as sharing terminals.   Greyhound and Trailways of New York, did pool equipment on the New York, Buffalo, and Toronto route in various ways thru the years, but did not on the New York to Montreal route.

So the main difference now, is both carrier's will be back in competition, and Adirondack will be free to run schedules when they want to, (with approval from Quebec still required, I believe).  In the past, Adirondack's schedules were pretty much determined by GLI in Dallas....

This is what happens when you have an agreement and you dont follow it. You think you were ahead by pocketing the fares, now your friends are competition. Good job.

Was Peter Pan in the NBTA prior to 2016 or were they always just a regional carrier in the northeast? I can’t remember off the top of my head if the end of their pool agreement with Greyhound also killed any interlining that went on. I know at this point they are on their own.

I’ve heard the word antitrust bandied about when referencing how Greyhound’s tickets work. Instead of every company automatically getting its piece of the ticket whether the person uses it or jumps off a cliff they have to mail tickets to each other for reimbursement. Most of the smaller companies can play nice with this but I’ve heard it can be quite hard to get the money you are rightly owed from Greyhound. This is especially true if you are in the same corridor and Greyhound abandons 20 people and you take them. I think that’s one major point where companies get fed up with Greyhound.

Peter Pan, like almost all intercity bus lines, was an NBTA member.  When I started in the business, working for Continental Trailways, we pooled equipment with Peter Pan to provide some thru schedules....PPB Amherst, MA to Springfield, then TNE (Trailways of New England), Springfield to New York City.   In around 1985, Trailways Inc. sold the TNE division to Peter Pan.

As far as the reason for PPB and consequently TNY ending the revenue sharing agreement with Greyhound, I can't comment, partly because I don't have the inside information on the facts.  The revenue sharing agreement more or less began with the governments blessing, of Greyhound Lines acquiring the entirety of Continental Trailways in 1987, with a couple of now isolated independent Trailways carrier's, like Capital of Alabama, and its sibling, Colonial. joined later by others...
