roeco
I've just recently heard that as of Oct.12th the ONLY schedule out of Edmonton to Winnipeg via Saskatoon will now be the 12:01am schedule #5152. The 1:30 pm # 5020 now Terminates in Saskatoon via Hwy 14 and no longer continues all the way via Hwy 16 to Winnipeg. And I believe that Schedule # 5401 will no longer come from Winnipeg through to Edmonton. I know their are many other changes happening too, Its gonna be interesting to see how the people on the Hwy 14 corridor that want to go past Saskatoon get their? The best solution would be to add a 2nd Midnight bus out of Edmonton to Saskatoon and and Route it via Hwy 14 and eliminate schedule 5020 all together, and modify #5170. Just heard that their will be a Freight truck running from Saskatoon to Yorkton..for about 3 weeks, something to do with Greyhound not giving 30 days notice to Saskatchewan Transoprtation before they cut one run between Saskatoon and Yorkton?? Not sure about the logistics of this though!
roeco
Just heard that their will be a Freight truck running from Saskatoon to Yorkton..for about 3 weeks, something to do with Greyhound not giving 30 days notice to Saskatchewan Transoprtation before they cut one run between Saskatoon and Yorkton?? Not sure about the logistics of this though! Just heard from a senior driver who was informing me of some major run changes that will happen out of Edmonton if Greyhound gets their application approved through Alberta Transportation or de regulation happens. The following runs are expected to be cut or have their frequency reduced; -9am Edmonton-Peace River as well as 5am Peace River-Edmonton. -6am Edmonton-Saskatoon and possibly 10:30 pm Saskatoon-Edmonton -Edmonton-Lloydminster local -Edmonton-Jasper(one run each way not sure if its the local or not) -6:30am Edmonton-Grande Prairie and possibly 11:45pm Grande Prairie-Edmonton -Service would be reduced on Peace River-Hay River, and it would only make sense, either to 5 days/week or 3 days/week. -Peace River to Grande Prairie would probably face the same fate as contracted runs( the operator would be free to run as the market dictates) I would also assume any contracted runs will be cut also, such as Edmonton to Macklin,Swan Hills,Elk Point,Drayton Valley and Red Deer to Rocky Mountain House and Consort. All the contracted runs are still "technically" Greyhounds even though their run by a 3rd party. So all these contracted runs would essentially be free to either the current operator or a future operator to decide what days/schedules they want to run and to do an interline agreement with GCX and or tickets. I feel that most of these runs will have some form of service still. It will then be basically whatever the market dictates, and most would essentially act as feeder runs for Greyhound hopefully on a positive note. However its also to be noted that all the contracted runs could face no service at all if the current operators drop them and no one picks them up. airwolf
Due to the mudslides in Banff yesterday Schedules 5407 and 5159 from Calgary to Vancouver were cancelled last night. First trip out today (schedule 5153) has a foreign line overload following it.
roeco
as of Oct.1 Schedules 5167/5164 will be discontinued between Calgary and Medicine Hat via Lethbridge. The communities of High River,Nanton,Claresholm,Coaldale, taber will loose scheduled passenger service. I'm not too sure if Okotoks will too or not. However Im not really sure why they would cut the whole run, they should at least run Schedule 5161 and 5163 Calgary-Okotoks-High River-Vulcan-Lethbridge-Fort macleod then via Hwy 3 into BC. Same reverse with Schedules 5010/5026. Then that way at least the service would still allow the schedules to remain pretty much the same timing and should have No Impact at all on Greyhounds operating performance. These schedules did this run prior to adding the Express services and theirs no reason why it can't be done again.
roeco
I can see the Yellowhead corridor with reduced service through Jasper, I did hear today that the Jasper local may be done soon! Not sure how they plan on doing that, but we will see how it pans out.
airwolf
I haven't yet seen an application to the PTB for reduced service on the Yellowhead in BC. That would still have to go through the regulatory process. As for the Jasper local, I must admit to being surprised that it is still on the schedule. Though I can see how cutting it would give the Edmonton runs commitee quite a headache. The only way I can see that happening would be to give either the PG or one of existing Yellowheads to the respective BC driver.
roeco
I was quite surprised it remained also after the De-regulation too, I think snce they switched it to leaving at 130 from Edmonton it carries quite a few more now, however on the way back leaving at 1 from Jasper it does not!! I wonder instead of cutting the local from Edmonton if it wouldnt make sense to just extend it all the way to Kamloops and cut the 630am from Edmonton. Then they would have the 130 amd 745 connectiong from Saskatoon all the way to Kamloops. It would Lv Edmonton at 130pm and get into Kamloops somewhere around 1030-11pm, Or is that even a feasible solution?? Then they could easily cut the return Jasper local at 1 and all the runs would make sense in Jasper!
airwolf
If they did that, they would have to extend it all the way to Vancouver. The 6:30am terminates in Kamloops connecting with 5153 coming from Calgary to Vancouver. There would be no connection available for a 13:30 out of Edmonton. roeco
Say a 130 arrived in Kamloops around 11pm ish. It would connect in Kamloops to Vancouver via Schedule 5015 lv at 0045am. North to Cache Creek-Prince George Schedule 5016 at 130am or to Salmon Arm/Revelstoke/Calgary Schedule 5004. Or they could extend it to Vancouver and catch passengers also from 5094 too which could also transfer to the new Kamloops-Vancouver schedule. I think an overnight service to Vancouver from Kamloops would make more than a lot of sense, If 5015 was full, Or they could just transfer passenger from PG schedule to a new Kamloops to Vancouver schedule. Then one schedule would capture passengers from 3 in Kamloops!
airwolf
That would work if you could guarantee an on time arrival in Kamloops. As it is, The 6:30 is often an hour or more late into Kamloops. The driver on 5015 can not leave late because that driver turns back on 5020. The problem with 1:30 is that Edmonton had trouble getting buses ready for both trips when there were two Saskatoon trips.
roeco
Ahh Ic. But if you look at the 11pm arrival in Kamloops, It gives it plenty of time for connections. Also Im not sure how the driver roations work out of Kamoops, But you could have the driver from a new schedule arriving in kamloops at 11pm return on 5044 and the driver from 5409 go back on 5020. Even if a Kamloops-Vancouver had to leave at 1 -1:15 I dont think the arrival time into Vancouver is a major issue. oops sorry which one is 5020? oops i foud it..lol So the driver from 5015 goes to Van and lays over then comes back to Kamloops on 5020 I always though all the Van drivers stayed in kamloops or just up and back..lol Im sure it could work out, But getting Greyhound to figure it out...lol. Would make a lot of sense to do it that way though. lol...they do it now for Jasper which leaves at 130, And now with one less 130 schedule its better. But with Greyhound nothings a perfect world..lol That would work if you could guarantee an on time arrival in Kamloops. As it is, The 6:30 is often an hour or more late into Kamloops. The driver on 5015 can not leave late because that driver turns back on 5020. The problem with 1:30 is that Edmonton had trouble getting buses ready for both trips when there were two Saskatoon trips. It leaves now at 130, because Saskatoon arrival into Edmonton is Now 1:10, as they changed the departure time out of Winnipeg, July 1.
roeco
I wonder if the current Medicine Hat agents who run a Freight Schedule to Calgary via Hwy 1 will operate a freight schedule instead now via Hwy 3-2-2a to Calgary effective Oct.1 with the discontinuation of the Hwy 2 schedule? The driver that goes back on 5020 leaves Kamloops on 5005. The driver that takes 5401 over in Kamloops to go to Vancouver turns back to Kamloops on 5002. The driver on 5015 has the longest layover arriving in Vancouver on 5015 at 06:00 and departing on 5012 at 09:30. There is one Vancouver driver going to Kamloops and turning back, leaving Van at 20:30 and leaving Kamloops on 5407 at 03:20 back to Vancouver. Shaun
In a situation where there is a scheduled run the driver usually has a change off at a specific location and may go back to where they started from. But in a case where it's a spare run what happens? For example for Toronto to Ottawa the drivers switch at the tim hortons and the toronto driver goes back to Toronto and the Ottawa driver goes back to Ottawa. If you are a spare there would be no bus to meet you there so what happens? You go all the way to Ottawa and dead head back to Toronto?
roeco
I am hearing from quite a n Oops my bad. That driver actually goes back on 5012. The driver that goes back on 5020 leaves Kamloops on 5005. The driver that takes 5401 over in Kamloops to go to Vancouver turns back to Kamloops on 5002. As that sure would accomplish all their wishes without going through the PTB in B.C. AS they only have to run 3 trips past Jasper. Which would be the 130,745 and 11:15. All other schedules would remain the same!
airwolf
That might make the Kamloops drivers happy too. The drivers running between Kamloops and Jasper get almost 18 hours in layover time in Jasper. It might cut some of that down for them. I got dispatched right out of Vancouver to drive 5044 once. Beautiful drive. I'd love to keep going.

roeco
I was hearing from a Edmonton driver today that they are looking at changing something on the Saskatoon run...I heard a departure time from stoon leaving around 4-430 pm...not sure if its an added schedule or just change of the 1130 to 430. Also apparently their lookin at adding a morning Fort Mac schedule...well see what happens in the next few months.

roeco
Well its pretty simple to run an Express end to end Vancouver to Calgary...just run a blue bus on the run and call it Express that should work...lol
