Calgary HandiBus says it will have to stop operating its bus fleet.

The company sent out a letter to employees on Thursday, informing them that an indepedant study recently found their funding model is no longer sustainable.

Calgary HandiBus is one of four service providers that Access Calgary, a division of Calgary Transit, uses to provide trips for Calgarians with disabilities.

HandiBus hasn’t determined a specific date when it will stop operating its buses, but says it will likely be sometime in 2015.

Effective Oct. 13, 2015, Access Calgary will change its name to Calgary Transit Access. This is in response to feedback from customers and other stakeholders regarding confusion about who our transportation service providers are and who is responsible for the oversight of the service.

Customers will start seeing our clean visual identity taking shape in the form of vehicle decals, driver identification, print and web materials, and signage. The refreshed branding helps streamline four starkly different looks from our service providers (Checker cabs, Care Calgary, Southland Transportation and Calgary Transit Access (formerly Handibus). Our vehicles will share a common look so customers can identify the vehicle easily and have confidence in the great service we provide every day.
While our Calgary Transit Access look and name is new, Calgarians can trust that we will continue delivering the same safe, responsive and courteous public transportation service our customers rely on.

Here is a shot of #391 taken about a month ago:

Also, at this time, I would like to start tracking all of the HandiBus units whether or not they are in the new livery or not. Please state what type of chassis, model as well. Also, I have noticed that they have changed all the plates on the rear of them from the one letter and 5 digit series to the same style CT buses use. And you might as well try and get as many photos of them as you can, especially the ones still in the HandiBus livery before they vanish!
