An interesting comparison is just up the road in Baltimore.

Maryland MTA had a similarly spec'ed batch of RTS-03s (though with 8V71 motors) -- same approximate age as WMATA's, same approximate quantity (115 in DC vs 101 in B'more).

While WMATA invested in theirs, MdMTA gave up pretty early. Baltimore's RTS fleet did receive the HVAC retrofit -- and maybe loose units were otherwise upgraded here and there -- but that's it. Baltimore was pretty much RTS-free by the early 90s, while they marched on for another ~decade at WMATA!

I can't help but wonder, why didn't WMATA try the RTS again in 1994? Nearby newly created (at the time) Fairfax connector had brought about 45 of those bad boys (as did Omniride back in 1989) and they kept their's til 2012-2013, even out lasting many of their newer Orion Vs. Metro could have brought another fleet of them in 1993-1994 instead of getting the Flexible Metro Ds (which tbh, were pieces of junk, only lasted about 15 years).

When do you guys think that the LFA series buses will be retired? I noticed that alot of the D.C. units as well as the Cinder bed units are beat up and looking quite bad now despite being overhauled less than 2 years ago. I suspect that these LFA buses ( all 3 versions) will be looking to retire starting around 2022-2023.

Those buses will probably retire in the mid 2020s.

I guess WMATA did not wanna risk the RTS problems again that why they close the Flxibles.

BusETA just updated showing the updated routes starting today.  Looks like we will only see “Scheduled Data” for the week now.  Was hoping to track the new buses!

Buses are now being tracked actually. Not 100% tracking but at least 80% of buses are being tracked.

also 7063-7069 are being moved to Montgomery as 7065, 7067, 7068 have been run by Montgomery routes lately. Still don’t know if 7063, 7064, or 7066 were moved there as well but most likely they did.

More bus movements: 7053 and 7056 are back at Landover division not sure if 7054 and 7055 are back as well. Also 7093, 7096, and 7097 are at Bladensburg now since the 39 isn’t running And maybe since 7086-7092 are being rehabbed. 2681 plus the MetroExtra C40LFRs re-entered service out of Bladensburg after not being much active since March.

More confirmed movements: 7058 is back at Landover division. Unknown status of 7054, 7055, 7057, 7059, and 7060. Bladensburg has 7093-7099 from Andrews division as the 39 isnt operating plus replacing the soon to be retired Orion VIIs (a few are running tho with 2681, 2682, and 2683 confirmed running).

Also Ride On new 2020 Gilligs 4145 is now in service operating on the 13 earlier today. Not sure when they entered service but I saw it today.

Another movements: 3758-3765 from West Ox were moved to Shepherd Parkway

What the hell? They stole 8 buses from West Ox in return of what? West Ox is already short as it is....

Anyway, the older Alstom and Breda cars have returned to service systemwide (aka the 2000s, 3000s, and 6000s).

They still aren’t running the 3A route.  FMR is also helping them with the 38B route until the evenings.  West Ox mainly used the 3700s on the 3A, 3T, 15K, and 26A routes.

I know, but from time to time a DE37LFA or 2 may appear on other routes like the 2A or 1C.

Still no sign of any 2020 New Flyer XN40s at FMR just yet.

West Ox really doesn't need them rn since the 3A is at FMR rn and the 3T, 15K, and 26A are suspended. The W lines mainly need them and maybe low demand routes like the D2, G2, E2, H6, U4, and X8 could use them.

The legacies came back on August 16 when WMATA ramp up service. Most XN40s arent even in service yet and only 4 entered service.

3292 entered service on route 79. Also, PG County TheBus got new El Dorados buses with one of them numbered 63036. Not sure how much they ordered or when they arrived.

Here a picture of the new El Dorados taken by MW Transit Videos on Facebook

Waiting for FMR buses to show up.  I’m guessing they are getting 3300-3349?

Guessing so most likely. The MetroExtra Orion VIIs are basically retired for FMR since the 16Y isn't running
