So I guess that the 28A will be realigned from Falls Church entirely? From Seven Corners, it might follow the 26A to East Falls Church Metro, jump on I-66, then stop at West Falls Church? That COULD speed it up somewhat, avoiding that 25 mph street on the surface streets.

Also, went to West Ox yesterday and I can confirm that there are indeed only 6 LFAs from WMATA in the FFC scheme. Also able to confirm that 2010 D40LFR #9617 is officially retired and striped of re-usable parts after last summer's fire. They seemed to have moved all the FFC buses to where the Metrobuses used to be parted at, so I guess WMATA buses will be taking the former FFC spots when they return next month. Still wonder they will send them..?

Dash bus is also getting that system realignment, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm not sure on how the 28A will be when its rerouted yet I'm just waiting for the maps to come out. And yeah DASH's new system begins on September 5 as well, the same day WMATA changes are suppose to happen.

Maps for revised DASH service also show new Metrobus routing.

In Alexandria, 28A changes between Alexandria Hospital area and King St-Old Town M.

Going eastbound, takes Seminary Rd as far as Howard St, then takes Howard St and Jordan St south to Duke St, then into Old Town from there.

Along with the 29K-29N, it means Duke St is the "Metrobus corridor" in and out of Alexandria from points west. There will be no more Metrobus service on King St in Alexandria.

Of this, I approve. 28A is a long, important regional route -- the new routing is faster and more direct than the current routing.

As for the Falls Church part, I can only see one (reasonable) way to serve both Metro stations: use Washington St to East Falls Church M, then Roosevelt/Sycamore/Wilson down to Seven Corners, then resume current routing. This, I still don't see the need for. They're abandoning a whole mile of E Broad St (Route 7) only to duplicate other coverage... while adding a whole lot of extra turns.

We shall see!

The 7A extension to Van Dorn Street Metro is a 7 days a week afair or just Weekday rush only? If it's the former, then that station will finally get Metrobus service on Sundays (even though it is nicely covered by both DASH and Fairfax Connector) Guess we better start fanning the old network in the area before it gets replaced next month. Wonder what the DASH routes will be renumbered to?

That's gonna take time to get used to. Anyway, saw 2 broken down buses yesterday. One was a disabled Loudoun County Transit MCI 2018 D4500CT (#71xxx) and the other was a WMATA 2009 New Flyer DE42LFA hybrid #6320 IIRC last night with a WMATA support SUV near Cinder Bed depot on I-95 South.

DASH's new XE60s will be numbered in the 900s as 901 was spotted at the New Flyer Plant. It will look similar to the XN60s since it has a similar roofing. Not sure when they'll be delivered.

I figured those Artics would be in the 900s, but the ZX5 buses should really be renumbered to something else, perhaps the #600's (Since the Neos are basically retired now) and let all the XE40s have the 800 series, cause more are on the way.

I feel like they are setting up the 25B line for future elimination. The route just doesn't seem that busy anymore compared to years past despite covid and whatnot.

VA Routes:

To me, one of the biggest mysteries is, between DASH and Metro, why so much additional service to Landmark Mall?

I appreciate that Landmark is being redeveloped (supposedly). Is that any reason to detour five bus routes through there today when it may not be active for several years?

As for the 25B... it (currently) has too many twists and turns near Landmark. For the new version, Southern Towers/Mark Center isn't a great anchor. I think the bulk of ridership is between Ballston and NVCC, so at least it connects those dots fairly well.

I've already commented on the various other changes. Hope they can drum up some ridership with improved frequency.

Problem is, many routes are just too hard to understand. While adding service, they need to subtract complexity.

To their credit, they've started to clean up a bit. Look at the 7 line. Not so long ago, it was the 7A-7C-7D-7E-7F-7H-7M-7P-7W-7X-7Y. Now it's dramatically streamlined to the 7A... with the 7M operating separately.

I, for one, love cracking into a good timetable to pick apart the difference between the 16A and 16C and 16E and 16G and 16H and 16Y. The average would-be customer, though, is immediately daunted.

Baby steps...

I wonder why too. But knowing how the logic actually is, I guess it works.

It's probably in preparation of the INOVA Alexandria hospital complex eventually being moved there, but it wouldn't be complete for another 6-7 years, so it is kinda strange that they are doing this now instead of say, 2025 or so. DASH's future West end transitway will also start around this time along with something possibly from Fairfax Connector centering Tyson's Corner not too far from here as well near the end of the decade.

Also, trains will now be every 10 minutes on the OR/BL/SV, and GR/YL lines during rush hours, 12 minutes all day, and 15 minutes during late nights and weekends. RD line trains will be every 6 minutes all day weekdays, 8 minutes on weekends, and 10 minutes during late nights.

We are expected to get a shift of bus movements again this September but nothing is known really yet.

Yeah, I suspect that alot of bus movements will have to do with the reopening of West Ox. Funny how we all thought it would close for good.

WMATA just had a system pick for September service changes and West Ox was not apart of that pick.

Yeah I seen that yesterday actually but on the 301 I believe via a Facebook post. But those ex WMATA buses can't be tracked on Transsee for some reason.

I saw via one my operator friends that on his pick schedules that hes out of West Ox with the 1C and 2B on it. Could be it changed by now but again not sure. I didn't hear anything about Cinder Bed routes yet but its possible they might keep their intended routes till WMATA gets it back. I did hear a rumor before that Cinder Bed were to get the 10A/10B and 5A but it seems unlikely rn.

EDIT: yeah my friend just confirmed West Ox won't reopen this September. I got a feeling they want to return all the commuter routes first before thinking of reopening West Ox.

The ex WMATA Orion’s started showing up a few weeks ago.  They show up on transsee now.  Still waiting for the New Flyers to track.   Not sure if there is a delay tracking or waiting for the Clever Device equipment.  So the 6300s will be broken down on the toll road now!

Also, has anyone else noticed that the 3300s out of FMR always show as “some crowding” on busETA?

The 10A and 10B lines I predicted would be transferred over to Cinder Bed, but why the 5A? That makes no sense as the dead heads will be a nightmare  and plus it will be history in a few months anyway. Why not have Montgomery depot take the 5A?

Speaking of #6300s, I saw a REX bus broken-down on the side of the road yesterday. DE42LFA hybrid #6305 on the I-95 near Cinder Bed depot, near the same spoke #6320 did the other day funnily enough. Also a FMR depot XN40 CNG broke down in Tyson's Corner yesterday too. 2018 XN40 CNG #3101 had to be towed by a Metro tow truck along the 28A or 23T line. Fire Suppression foam went off, so maybe it overheated. I be hearing those CNG's with loud engine fans sometimes.

The 10A and 10B lines I predicted would be transferred over to Cinder Bed, but why the 5A? That makes no sense as the dead heads will be a nightmare  and plus it will be history in a few months anyway. Why not have Montgomery depot take the 5A?

Those were just rumors I heard. It is still unconfirmed

It does make since with the 10A and 10B to transfer to Cinder Bed though. The depot is not too far from the Southern terminal of those lines. The 5A though, I just don't see it. Keep it at Four Mile Run for the remainder of it's existence.

yea it is. And I agree FMR should keep the 5A. But again, we just have to wait and see
