While on topic of the FY2021 budget, we are getting a $2 flat fare during the weekends while adding additional weekend service for select routes. Also MetroExtra routes are being upgraded and even calls improvements for the 16Y and K9 even though they might be eliminated because of low funds. However some routes likes the 10N, S80/S91, Z8, and Z11 will be eliminated while other routes will have select segments eliminated. Also we are getting a new bus maintenance facility? and shepherd parkway will be converted to CNG.

Also 3300 entered service on the X9

More bus movements:

-6539 and 6540 from Shepherd Parkway were moved to Andrews Federal Center.

-4480 entered service out of Andrews Federal Center on the K12

-7080 is at Bladensburg

-3026 is confirmed retired from Bladensburg while 3019, 3028, 3030 are only used for FMR shuttles now. Unknown status on the others

-All 40 ft MetroExtra Orion VIIs are sidelined as a reserve fleet.

-MetroExtra C40LFRs are being less used now

Just resolved now

The new gilligs have entered service right? I thought I saw a picture of one on facebook yesterday but I can't remember if it was training or on a route

Yeah TheBus Gillig BRTs are in service but idk about the Ride On Gilligs has Ride On don’t got a tracker which shows the bus numbers yet.

Also 4484 is on Route 30N now

On more Ride On news. Flash BRT will officially begin service on October 14 running between Silver Spring and Burtonsville Park and Ride Lot. This will most likely eliminate the Z11 and probably restructure the Z8 and Z6.

Nice to see WMATA Washington tap into bus rapid transit. Especially drawing on off-board fare collection and dedicated bus lanes with frequent service.

Reminds me of Viva Transit in York Region, Ontario which operates a similar model.

WMATA is selecting Hitachi Rail to build its 8000 series. Basically they are going back to the Breda routes since Breda was sold to Hitachi Rail.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/transportation/2020/10/06/metro-8000-series-rail-car/?fbclid=IwAR0zP6CFtGx6Oza3DR5TGy3DgEjmAZywZcdwbigdwSPFgKMfxyVRMrTVBqk

I remember my visit to Washington DC last year and taking a Breda subway train. Of course, it doesn't have the amenities of the new models. My first train was a Kawasaki (7000 series) which is more modern especially for those visiting the first time with information screens. To ensure I know where I am and where to get off.

Going to be years before they go into revenue service considering the volume and testing involved. Hopefully they avoid the same issues from the last order which new technology always have teething issues before reaching a stable point.

A Red Line train consisting of 6000 series railcars separated from each other between Union station and NoMa station earlier today. This is like the 4th time this happened in the last few years (2016-2020)

https://wtop.com/tracking-metro-24-7/2020/10/100-red-line-passengers-stuck-on-2-trains-that-separated-near-union-station/

In bus news, it looks like Western took ahold of some of Bladensburg’s D40LFRs as they had 6157, 6160, 6163, 6167, and 6172 operating on Western routes lately. Not sure if 6151, 6155, 6161, 6164, and 6168 also moved there. 6133 and 6134 were also moved back to Southern Avenue division.

Seems like the 2008 NABI BRT 60 CNGs are still around as I saw #5419 working the X2 out of Minnesota ave station over the weekend. Also, still no sign of 2020 XN40s out here in NOVA just yet.

Also in over DMV news, Ride On's Proterras and Nova LFSAs have all entered service as the 2005 New Flyer C40LF CNGs and 2006 Gillig Advantage hybrids have been retired.

On the DASH bus side of things, a few Orion Vs have returned (albeit temporally) to service as a couple have been seen in Old Town (one was working the AT2X!).

Saw an ex-PRTC MCI D4500CL (now DASH bus, not sure the #) deadheading south on I-95 near Cinder Bed depot (and FFC's Lorton depot) the other day, not sure where it was going (perhaps back to PRTC?)

and Lastly, the 2020 New Flyer XE40s have arrived (buses #801-803, with rumors of 8 more coming in 2021 along with the Proterras). DASH has certainly come a long way, Very interesting fleet of buses. Wonder if they'll consider a second depot in the future...?

So, it is to my understanding that around 300 cars are the base order. What will happen if Metro goes with the options? bye bye 6000s already???

2008 NABIs will be around until later this year or next year I assume. 2020 XN40s will probably hit NOVA next month or two along with the 2020 XD40s (not sure if its 5501-5510 or 5500-5510).

Yeah Ride On's new Gilligs and Proterras supposedly replace their older 2005-08 buses. The 2008 Gilligs (40 ft) are in service still and I heard that the 29 ft 2008 Gilligs are still in service (not sure if they were retired since a few of them were still operating). Also I didn't realize DASH got the XE40s until it was revealed.

If Metro goes for the option order, they will replace the 6000 series but I believe they will keep them instead since those are one of Metros most reliable cars.

All 2020 XD40s have entered service with 4481, 4498 and 4499 still don’t have working trackers.

Bladensburg has 3275-3314 right now with 3301 and 3311 either not in service or don’t have working trackers yet.

Western took ahold of 2011 XDE40s 7070-7075. Not sure if any more will be moved but it’s likely they’re there because of their 2011 XDE40s are beginning to be rehabbed.

7096 is at Montgomery. Not sure if 7091-7099 will return to Montgomery.

7086-7090 are confirmed back in the Local scheme. 7091-7099 remains in the MetroExtra scheme.

3058 has been on the U4 the last few days so it possibly been moved to Southern Avenue.

The 2006 30ft Orion VIIs and 2007 C40LFRs are starting to be used less regularly now.

Four Mile Run has started taken delivery of the 2020 New Flyer XN40 CNGs.  Saw units #3317, #3322, #3323, #3324, and a few others parked at the depot with ads on them already. There were being prepped for service. Seems that #3315 was the last bus for Bladensburg depot. Additionally as expected, many of the remaining 2600's 2006 Orion VII OG CNGs are being retired now as a bunch were parked on the left side of the depot, being de-decaled. This is officially the end of the line for the Orion 7 CNGs at Metro, so if anyone is still trying to catch the last ones at this point, they have a most one more week to do so...

Also DASH's new XE40s are now active. Saw #803 on the AT8 a few days ago.
