Greyhound in the news

Well look like there is backlash in the University City area and Greyhound will not go there

I mean it seems like nobody wants Greyhound in their community. It’s understandable why, but the service provided is very valuable

To Charlotte, North Carolina where Greyhound has to vacate its current location due to a redevelopment project and the city council will vote Monday on a lease of a space in a parking deck for $4200 a month.

I thought they were collocating with Amtrak at the new station when completed?

So in the end the trip was only going between Las Vegas and Reno? That's within the state of Nevada. IIRC the previous article said the trip started from Las Vegas going to California?

The issue was them jutting into California long enough to stop at a deserted campground and then run the rest of the way back in Nevada and call it interstate and claim exemption from Nevada safety inspection rules. That’s a big fat no from the judge on that idea.

Columbus has sued Barons to try to get the terminal declared a public nuisance… they want it gone by hook or by crook.

Crime has doubled or so in the first month it’s been opened… they went from 30 service calls and 1 criminal complaint there to 64 service calls and 14 criminal complaints including Assault, Robbery and Shots Fired. How fun.

They might have faired better, if they had extended the trip into Phoenix.  That would be a clearly interstate operation...

Or the first town just after the boarder. This way they can say they actually severed location in California with real people in  it, rather then some Campground?

You know, I see 2024 being worst for Greyhound and perhaps FLIX with more of their crazy schemes and even more station closers and more ridicule's curb side pick ups/drop offs.

I would hazard a safe guess that the fun is only beginning.

To Maryland now and a head on collision between a Buick Enclave and 86753 at 3am this morning… a man was driving the SUV in the wrong direction on state route 32 near I-95 when the accident occurred. The man was killed. The driver of the bus and 17 of the 38 passengers were taken to the hospital and are expected to be ok.

Back to Huntsville, AL we go and wouldn't you know it... service there has already stopped because they don't have permits to operate there yet and have to wait on them. The theme of getting back to you at their own pace continues... it took a week and a half to get a response from Greyhound the FLIX spokesman and that person refused to answer any follow up questions.

Meanwhile Greyhound is being sued by a woman in Dallas who says her 12 year old daughter was sexually assaulted by a security guard who offered her a ride home while she was an unaccompanied minor attempting to travel from Fort Worth to Houston. Instead he took her to a park and assaulted her. The article is behind a paywall but comes from the Dallas Morning News. The guard was sentenced to life in prison after 10 minutes of deliberations. The mother claims Greyhound and the security company were negligent and Greyhound specifically failed to do enough to ensure the safety of unaccompanied minors traveling Greyhound. FLIX ended the unaccompanied minor program when their ticketing system went into effect this year.

Greyhound will soon relocate from their 1968 Station in Tallahassee, Florida across the street to the C.K. Steele Plaza which is the city bus station. They will get two gates and a place to sell tickets. The initial lease is for 5 years with two more 5 year options.

This is NOT one of the properties Twenty Lake Holdings picked up from First in the sale to FLIX. They are simply not renewing the lease that expires in 2024.

Greyhound, Flixbus, Jefferson Lines and Land to Air Express are moving to a new location next week in Minneapolis replacing the city owned station they’ve used for over 20 years. The new location is Ramp B at the Hawthorne Center. Minneapolis has a combined 44 buses a day between all the companies arrivals and departures.

Some passengers were stranded in Texarkana, Texas after their driver was assaulted by a passenger. The driver was taken to the hospital and the man was arrested. They waited 6 hours for a replacement driver to show up to take them the rest of the way to Dallas. AR87021 was the bus and apparently they needed tape to hold the door shut going down the road after it was damaged in the altercation.

Montreal-Ottawa is still down with local service completely eliminated.

There is an Orleans express service, it operates Gatineau-Ottawa-Montreal. Roughly 4 or so trips a day in each direction. Very full when I have taken it before

If you are traveling only between Ottawa/Gatineau and Montreal you still have plenty of options, but for those people traveling locally between these towns say for example Hawkesbury or Montebello, QC. there is no service since these carriers both Orlean and Autobus operates mostly non-stop

10 Days with no news items might be a record for this…

Greyhound has resolved its issues in Huntsville, Alabama and they have re-resumed operations there. The news story notes that it is a 100-mile round trip from I-65 to the station and back. Not sure if all their schedules go that way or if some of them sneak out another way to get back to it. The city is hopeful they can get Greyhound to move closer to the freeway as it would be more centrally located with more amenities like hotels and restaurants.

The slow drip drip about the future redevelopment of the Cleveland Station continues with planning now beginning as Greyhound continues to search for a new site:

Meanwhile they’ve opened a new location in Greensboro, North Carolina:

Back in August passengers were stranded when a bus broke down in the middle of nowhere in the northeast... initially they were told a rescue bus was coming. A couple hours later that was changed to "you're on your own". Then Greyhound refused to refund someones money and that person got ahold of the Boston Globe... Quite a story:

Flex is the real problem here they own Greyhound and hire its staff so its up to Flex to fix Greyhounds image, if not then the media reports these stories should say "Be careful when taking Greyhound or Flex you may be left in the middle of no where and out of luck getting your money back"

I woulf really like to know what there rating is for customer satifaction is for both Greyhound & Flex both here n North America & Europe is?

Greyhound’s “image”, is probably way beyond repairable, at this stage.

From reading that and other stories, it seems that they simply don’t care.

I have given up hope on new ownership ever bringing them back to respectability.

It would probably be best if they just shut down entirely.

Maybe that's what Flex might want to do, buy your compitor take it runs over by Flex, shut Greyhound down and contract out there runs to contractors under Flex. Don't have to deal with ATU or bus ownership have all your contractors deal with it. By shutting down Greyhound farming out all there runs under Flex to others if buses break down they simply say "Hey it;s not our buses its the contractors buses deal with them"
