Translink Refurbishments

527 posts in this topic

Welcome to the Translink Refurbishments thread, a recent split off of the Special Sightings thread. This thread is for reporting FRESH buses only, if it looks like crape, don't report it.

What defines "fresh"? Here's a few examples of what's acceptable

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/3448606313/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/3828237961/

Fresh buses have been recently repainted, some buses don't get repainted rims, but most do. If a bus doesn't have repainted rims, but the body is still shiny after a repaint, it's acceptable.

What ISN'T acceptable?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/4623527120/

Overview of Posting Guidelines

1) A bus must have been recently repainted (A bus that just has been washed is not acceptable)

2) A bus may or may not have repainted rims (If the rims were repainted, they must be "fresh")

3) Posting of plain buses (i.e buses that are not "fresh") will be reported to the admins as SPAM

If you have any questions, or are unsure if you're bus photo is "fresh" feel free to PM myself, Enviro 500, or MCW Metrobus.

Of course, if a bus has been reported here before, but still looks "fresh" when you have spotted it, you're clear to report in this thread.

Happy hunting!

Dave should have some photos to be posted later. I would have been after it but after puking on a bus last night I decided I probably should take a day off :P

Please post sightings and photos of freshly repainted buses in this thread. General guidelines - if it isn't fresh, or if it wasn't previously worthy of being posted in the special sightings thread that has existed for the past 4 years, it doesn't belong here.

7157 was out today. Saw her at Brighouse Station very shiny! I didn't catch a route or photos because she was travelling down the other side of the road however, but my gut says 410.

Trans-Continental's promise: Ask and you shall Receive!

I was completely caught by surprise too..........I informed George Prior and Chris Cassidy right away, and we all came to Richmond Centre to capture her in the rain on her last trip before returning to RTC for the day!

Refurb Report

B8003 is FRESH on 99 today...........this is a significant refurb, as it draws an official ending to another paint scheme generated from the BC Transit era: The BC Transit Bee-Line colors! =(

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1998nfd60lf#13

Here's a photo of her in the old Bee-Line Paint scheme:

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1998nfd60lf#12

And a photo of her in the old Bee-Line paint scheme with the FIRST articulated ad-wrap in Vancouver's history!

Chris should be posting his photo(s) later on, stay tuned!

Enjoy!

B8032 returned fresh from FOH yesterday and surprisingly managed to last from 600 all the way till 2800 (last N35). I think I must be getting old because I didn't stay out for the N35

Anyways, I'll shut up now and instead share the photos.

Rounding the corner of the Production Way Station loop

Nicely forested background of her pulling into SFU loop

Pulling into Production Way Station Bay 4, a great high speed pan shot with a nice high vantage point. Got some interesting looks standing up on the retaining wall.

Now the only those are just your appetizers, the night shots are really the main dish :P

Night pan on Howe Street passing Dunsmuir

Sitting still and pretty at the Burrard Street layover

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/5098916478/

And to finish up an attempted pan at Burrard Street, sadly my other shots were interrupted by taxis or postal trucks ^_^

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/5098915742/

I must say, my new prime lens really does the trick, best $300 I ever spent!\

One final thought before I finish this report. This report, along with most of my refurb reports, would not have been possible without CPTDB member "Citaro" His iron determination to report this stuff to Dave and I has been a huge help. I can't think of a refurb report in the past year, heck maybe even more, that he didn't play a part in.

So buddy, this 11/10 is for you.

Both facts have been very well stated, I have thanked Vitus many times in person in the past, and I'd like to take this chance to extend my appreciation publicly once again!

Here are my photos!

I don't intend to make a speech about every single photo, I will let them speak for themselves.

Refurb Report

Myself and Chris C spotted S7358 FRESH on a PM tripper on Monday..........we drove around Surrey and spotted the bus at a couple of locations which I personally have never even been to before! I'll let the pictures do the rest of the explanation..........

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1999nfd40lf/#161

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1999nfd40lf/#163

Solid 10/10

And it seems I may have never actually made a post for FRESH S7315 spotted 2 months ago............so, for those who are interested, all the photos taken by myself and George can be found here:

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1999nfd40lf/#27

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1999nfd40lf/#44

Another perfect-score refurb...........thanks to Chris for his hints provided over two consecutive days!

Chris should have some photos to share with all soon, stay tuned.

Enjoy!

It's been nearly a month since a refurb report? B) F our lives :D

Anyways here's B8028 fresh in the fuel bay at BTC today.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/5243459540/

She just had the interior sprayed out (Yes, a hose soaked down the entire interior of the bus) and was left running to dry it out. I figure it'll be back in service tomorrow (if she isn't B/O'd) but since I won't be able to really chase her I thought I'd report this photo anyways. (With the rain she'll be dirty fast)

And you are absolutely right about both facts!

I took your advice seriously.......in order to A.) Prevent the chances of the bus getting BOed, as refurbs have a regular tendancy to do so on first days of service, B.) Prevent the rain from overly degrading the freshness of the paint and C.) Make sure I actually get to exam on time at 7pm tonight, I decided to.........go for a little morning exercise! ;)

B8028 FRESH off the camera, all photos captured this morning! HUGE Thanks to Vitus for his efforts in providing the information and the morning call! :P

Over the span of 4 hours, the bus was noticeably getting dustier and dustier.........it didn't take long at all! Nevertheless, it is still a fresh beauty among other dirty buses on the road.

Photos named and listed according to chronological order, split between two pages:

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1999nfd60lf/#29

http://www.trans-continental.ca/vancouver/1999nfd60lf/#38

For those who are interested, this bus will be on the road until past 2am tonight, assuming it doesn't get changed off with another bus. The bus was having door troubles at SFU, a road service mechanic looked over it, and I took the chance to ask whether this problem will result in a change-off, his answer is "not immediately".

Fresh-o-meter: as of 8am, solid 10/10........as of noon, 9.5/10

Enjoy!

Less than 8 hours after Dave's first shots, here's what she looked like at Production Station (The pan makes up for the wheels B) )

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/5246169986/

and then 4 hours later (16 hours since Dave's first shots) here she is parked in Production loop. The wheels look so horrid I can't even classify this photo on the "refurb" category.

8 + 4 = 16? :D

If you had captured those photos 16 hours after I did, you would have taken those photos at almost 1am of the following day, precisely 47 minutes AFTER this post was made, since my first photo (at WB Kensington / Hastings) was captured at 8:58am!

Just to add to the list, I have more photos of 8028 15-16 hours (12am-1am) after my first photos were taken in the morning, 4 hours after Chris's last photos were taken..........and surprisingly, the bus actually still looked very decent and fresh under the proper lighting conditions!

Night-panned:

The bus must've been scared of me or somethin', she tried to hide on Dunsmuir street layover for her last trip

This is either a really bad joke, or someone is grossly misinformed... :P

I found B8020 on the Tracking sheets this morning and shortly thereafter went to go find it on the 99, photos below. What I saw today didn't quite fit the qualifications of this thread at all! Apparently this bus was last "repainted in 2006."

Now regardless of the fact that I haven't been on top of my game in terms of BTC Checks, they're still a good source of what's going into FOH and what's coming out; occasionally buses get repainted without any body work having been initiated, but with my frequency of BTC Checks I'm usually able to spot stuff like that (at some point) before it returns to service...

While I'm replying to this thread, it's probably worth mentioning that B8045 should be coming back into service soon (if it hasn't done so already) so please keep an eye out for it. It was not listed on the sheets today and could not be spotted anywhere else, but I do suspect it was in one of the maintenance bays in the North yard as there were two good-looking B-Line artics whose unit numbers I could not see. P7419 should also be resuming service shortly so please keep an eye out for that too!
