CFD - Calgary Fire Department

Recommended Posts

This is a look at the first of the 16 new Smeal Engines..
The new Engines come with a 2 stage 7,070 Litre per minute pump (about 1,500 imperial gallons per minute), Booster tank is 2500 Litres or 550 Imperial Gallons, Smeal SG09 anti-idle auxiliary power unit, fold-down arrow board, 2 exterior light up water level gages, lock-in levers on the pump panel, fold down ladder rack, CAFS, and a deck gun... which is not mounted yet because they are on back order (the deck gun is mounted on the rear drivers side just like the 2010 Rosenbauers)

Also the rear hose load looks like it will change a bit..... CFD is supposed to go with a different type of 125mm/5inch LDH supply hose and 65mm/2 1/2inch attack line. The new Smeals have roughly a 2-3 foot shorter hose bed because of they Aux power unit.. but there is also a second compartment that looks like it's meant for hose storage on the right of the hose bed..

These Engines are also roughly 2.5 feet shorter then the 2010 Rosenbauers!!

Really not a fan of the white down to the stripe on the front doors. They should have stopped it at the bottom of the window imho.

CFD apparently didn't have much of a choice.. all city business units are to change to this colour scheme, or at least something very similar to it

Yes, I have been noticing the new City logo popping up on all sorts of different equipment lately....

For a short time, one of CFD's newest Engine's was operating as Engine 48 out of Station #1 and I captured this image of it (E03-16) on May 19, 2016:

As well as Engine 1 from Station #1 (E04-10) on May 19, 2016:

And I also caught Aerial 1 from Station #1 on the same day - May 16, 2016 (A01-05) :

And now a more recent post:

Today, I caught Quint fleet number Q09-08 operating as Aerial 1 out of Station #1 more than likely as a spare unit - June 17, 2016:

So recently,  many stations have now received the new Engines.  E16-16 is operating out of station 10, E02-16 is now out of station 2, E14-16 is out of Station 5, E03-16 is now Engine 16, and Engine 17 is now E19-16. These are listed on the Fire Wikia website at this direct link:
http://fire.wikia.com/wiki/Calgary_Fire_Department

Also, this morning I found Engine 23 now with new engine E24-16 for my local station.  This is not listed on the Fire Wikia, however, the crew on this engine said they just got it a couple of days ago and they told me they were surprised to get it since they already had a 2010 engine (E13-10).  Here are a couple of images of the new Engine 23:

Here is the new MRU 1. The fleet number on it is MR0216 - there is another one sitting at the shops right now

Yes, I guess I forgot to post my photo over here of MRU 1 in full livery!  Caught it back on September 17, 2016:

I was at the CFD shops recently taking pictures and I was told CFD has put an add on order for 10 more Smeal Engines. 5 of the 16 original Engines ordered are at the CFD maintenance facility waiting to be put in service. The new Hazmat's should start arriving in the city in the spring time I think?

The quint you shown is one of a kind because it has a Federal Q (I believe)

Station 23 has one of the new engines, old Engine 23 is now at Station 24 as Engine 24.20170424_160348.thumb.jpg.f5eb1f9da27da60e73f123155aa87d55.jpg

The Engine you posted images of look like Station 12, not 24 though.

Oh my bad, you're right! It's weird, that was taken at a possible gas leak I believe, since I seen trucks from 3 different fire stations respond to that call, including a Hazmat. And it was in 23 Station's Area, but my only guess is 12 Station was assigned first... it is weird.

Also, The images weren't suppose to be of 24 Engine either, they were suppose to be 23 Engine but I clearly can't read numbers haha.

Hey all, as you have probably realized with these 35 Smeal Engines entering/in-service all of the 98's/00's and probably most, if not all the 04's Engines will be retired from service. That means the 04's (if not retired) 06's/08's and possiably some 2010's will become Spare Engines. With this of course the 2010 Rosenbauer's are also being moved around the city. So I am asking you to help me tract these Engines and if possible, help me update the CFD Apparatus roster on firewiki: http://fire.wikia.com/wiki/Calgary_Fire_Department

In particular I am looking for fleet numbers on Engines: 15,25,31,33,34,36,41 and 47.

Thank you for your help in advance!
