MaT
Just saw on the website that they have a new route and schedule coming up. I dont think this is their normal switching of routes throughout the year like they have been doing, this seems like one route for the whole year kinda thing, and looks like more service hours too! Right now they run 9am-5pm...the new schedule will be 7am-7pm Itll still be an hour headway though. http://www.leamington.ca/residents/transportation.asp http://www.leamington.ca/residents/documents/LMTransitMapeffectovejune12012.pdf
MaT
Just found this online from May 16th. Leamington Transit Route Changes May 16 2012 | 6 days ago | Add Comment Leamington Transit is altering its only bus route and extending the hours of operation as of June 1st. Engineering Technologist John Pilmer hopes it increases ridership. “We’re switching from a large one-way loop of the town, that would take somebody an hour to get to and from somewhere, to a route where the bus travels back along the same route as it follows except for at the two ends where it’s a very small loop,” says Pilmer. The current route was adopted back in 2001. The hours will change from 9am-5pm, Monday through Saturday, to 7am-7pm. Roughly 15,000 people use the service each year. Story by Bob Becken, Blackburn News. EDIT Just found this too Town to increase transit hours Leamington Transit will have new hours and a new route with a bus travelling in both directions starting June 1. The change will enable riders to get to destinations without having to ride the entire loop. The bus will start on Seacliff Drive and turn around on Talbot Street West and Fraser Road. The bus will pass a stop twice in the course of an hour rather than the hour-long loop of the existing transit circuit. Bus hours are being extended by four hours a day, with buses running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The changes come at the request of riders who wanted more flexibility and longer hours of operation. There are 15,000 riders annually and the town would like to improve that number, said John Pilmer, the town's engineering technologist. "The large portion of our riders are seniors," Pilmer said. "The reason we are extending our hours is to reach a wider demographic. It's for people who want to get to work or school. We are hoping to make it a more attractive option." Cost of a ride is $2 for adults, $1.75 for seniors and $1 for students and children. The new route can be found at leamington.ca.

armorand
I'm tempted to travel to Ontario to get and ride this Orion. That or wait for MTHA to let me ride theirs.
Chris W
I had the chance to head to Leamington today. There has been a fleet update. 181, the Orion I, was retired in September when the new buses came in. On Thursday, 275 was removed from the CA Bailey property and 181 followed suit on Friday. They were put up for auction as quick as they left. Now, onto the new buses. These are new GMC 4500/Glaval Titan II LFs. These buses are numbered 376 and 377. Now as far as cutaways go, these look good, save for the abortion ad on the door side of 377. They have what appear to have TwinVision Amber LED signs. Interestingly enough, with a small system like this, do they really need bike racks or destination signs? 376 was in service during my trip and 377 was at the garage. Note the front sign doesn't work on 376. The side sign read "LEAMINGTON TRANSIT".

MaT
Leamington initiates public transit review Leamington is launching a public transit study that may eventually link to Kingsville and Wheatley. Mayor John Paterson said he’s had informal talks with Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos and Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope to see if there’s any interest in expanding Leamington’s service to its neighbouring communities. The current transit system has been in business for almost 20 years. Two fully accessible, shorter-sized buses service the town year-round on a prescribed route. Paterson said the viability of extending routes to Point Pelee National Park is also on the agenda. The town has set aside about $38,000 of gas tax money for the study, which Paterson expects will start in the next month or so. “We’re not really trying to make a regional bus service,” he said. “We’re just trying to look after, I guess, the remote south shore.” Paterson expects council will probably deal with the issue leading into 2018 budget deliberations late this year. Seashore_518203
From a good source, the Leamington Enviro200 buses will not be in service until April 2022. Leamington will introduce a fully On Demand system at that time and the new buses will be part of the launch. 1 2
PHATMATT51
Kind of the same thing that happened in Chatham. Got them in August and didn’t go out till December but one 1 of them has gone out. Drivers I talked to said it was because none of the drivers had the air break training and with covid no one was doing the tests. They hired someone to drive it currently. And it only goes out on his shift. So one week it’s only out in the morning and the next week it’s only out in the afternoon

Byfold
Because they had the government funding to buy those pieces of junk buses. "On Demand" is the future of transit and shouldn't be deemed a "cut". Prior to the pandemic Belleville Transit introduced an on demand service and it was a success as ridership skyrocketed!
