GRT Route Discussion

Which brings me to the other thread, the "GRT Secrets" thread. I think that all the interlining information for all the routes should be published in the timetables as well. As I mentioned in the other thread this information is already available in the headways reports (aka the Master Schedules) and it would not be difficult to add two columns to the timetables showing where the bus came from before starting that trip and where it's going when finished. Also, with the INIT system being installed in more and more buses, the route is displayed on the interior screen when the bus is sitting with the doors open at the terminal.

Why not have the INIT system announce the next route before the bus arrives at its destination like it would the next stop.

"Next stop Charles st. Terminal Continuing route 1 Stanley Park Via Lorainne.

hey everybody why cant they do this ?

8 Fairview Via Courtland Should change to the 7C Conestoga mall instead of having the 8 turn around and do 8 Fairview via Courtland And Weber or do another Route out of Faiview Park Mall and have a 10 or a 12 do

8 Fairview Via Courtland And Weber would that work ?

Oh, here's something I've noticed...

It seems that every Sunday evening at about 7pm a Rt. 7 departs Conestoga Mall signed 7 UNIVERSITY AND KING then it short turns via King-University-Regina-Lodge-King then returns to Conestoga Mall as a 7C. Anyone know more about this particular route, what its purpose is (because I don't recall seeing passengers on it), possible interlines, and why it doesn't seem to show up on the timetable? :P

These trips are done by certain Route 9 trips that arrive at Conestoga Mall before turning into Route 12. Basically these added trips are only so the bus doesn't sit idle at Conestoga Mall for 20 minutes, there are 7 trips that do this. Personally, I think it would make more sense to use this time to run short-turn 21's to the Waterloo Smart!Centres (where the Wal-Mart is near the farmer's market) to provide at least some Sunday service to the area.

  • 2 weeks later...

Something else I was curious about... I saw this GRT map posted up in one of our campus buildings that seem to be quite old, but I don't remember seeing a date. Two noticeable differences from current that I remember were:

- Route 9 didn't interline with route 13. When the 13 exited UW south of Ring Road it would return toward Laurelwood via Phillip St. The route 9 always turned back to Conestoga Mall at King & University like the short-turn service (Lakeshore to University and King) does now.

- Route 12 near University & Bridge went down Sandowne Dr. and Braemore Ave. instead of going down Bridge St. (i.e. it did not go on Bridge St. at all)

Any idea how old this map might be?

Wow! That is an "outdated" map!

Customer Service is probably not aware that map is that old. I'd suggest contacting them to see if it can be updated before September.

That map is probably 3 or 4 years old. (If it's similar to the map that can be purchased from GRT it would have a date on it .................. where the "front" cover would be when folded up. Try looking there)

I know one of the UW maps (I think South Campus Hall?) was dated 2006 or 2007...might have been that one.

This map was at Conrad Grebel University College. I don't really remember there being one at South Campus hall, but I think main campus does a good job (or at least a better job than Grebel does :)) with keeping the displayed maps up to date. I'll see if I can find the date the next time I'm over there....

Eww, they changed the look of the pocket schedules - most of them anyways.

I hate the look of the "new" schedules! (Never liked the "Cambridge" ones, when they introduced the "new" format last year.) At least with the old schedule maps you had a "mini map" of the route, showing quite a few of the cross streets. Great for following a detour routing! Now, just try to figure out where you're going when a detour is announced! Arrrgh! :)

I wasn't able to look at much of the back because of the way it was attached. But upon further inspection it seems to be from 2002. Here are some crappy photos :P

The map should be from 2003.

The hints are the route splits of route 8, 7D, 7E, 7F, 11, 19, 20.

Routes 1, 2, 3, 10, 15 on that map were split into their current form in 2003-2004. Route 5 was split into its current form in 2007.

No, it's 2002 for sure. It was Summer 2002 when I made that St. Jacobs map inset while working in the office during my co-op term ( :P yup, it was me!) which was published that fall, so it has to be 2002 if the 1 and 15 wern't split yet. The splitting of Route 11 into the 19/20 occurred and the new Highland Hills Terminal was opened that year as well.

I guess this explains the signs I remember seeing on Phillip St. that there used to be bus stops there. Could this (the little paved area between the sidewalk and road) perhaps be one of them? (Darn Pizza Nova truck blocking the way :P)

Yup that was the first stop on Philip for the 13 that bloody truck was always in the way and nobody could ever seem to do anything about it.

hey everybody i ask about the new pocket timetables today and they will be out before school starts

Speaking of new the Pocket Timetables (heaven help us)....ya know all these errors we are finding in the bus stop annoucmenets (incorrect stop names, missing stops, stops that don't exist etc. etc.) well, talk about measuring once and cutting twice whoever created the new style K-W timetables in GRT's usual wisdom has used all the existing stop listings (the ones with all the errors) in publishing these new schedules. YAY! :D . Jeez, you would think they could've waited until we fixed the errors.....[sigh]. So, time to start hunting for timetable errors too!!
