Ex-BC Transit MCI Classics in Calgary

Recommended Posts

Drove my roommate to work this morning at VP and decided to stop by the Sunshine Coach shops where they often do work on PWT buses. Had heard a slight rumor that some BC Transit Classics may be headed to the Calgary area and this morning I found Ex-BC Transit - Victoria 1991 MCI Classic #947 parked there still in full livery with fleet numbers and bike rack. Images available shortly.

Edit: Here is an image of #947 taken in service in Victoria just last October (2009):

And here are the images of #947 taken only about 25 minutes ago in Calgary near the CP Rail Alyth yard at the Sunshine Coach shops:

Perhaps it stopped in on its way to Regina? Or is it perhaps destined to replace those Red Arrow fishbowls? BTW, what is that coach beside it, is that by any chance an ex-Perimeter 102DL3?

I am betting for the Spruce Meadows Red Arrow fleet as that's what I have heard, but didn't want to say as I have heard nothing officially about that. But it's very possible that it is for Regina. However, the place where I found this Classic often has PWT equipment parked there as well, so I am guessing it is for one of the PWT fleets. That MCI Coach you see is 688, a 102C3.

I went back to the shop where I found 947 about an hour ago and her numbers have been removed as well as ads and ad holders. Ended up chatting with a fella at the shop and he said there are 4 or 5 of these and that they are for the Spruce Meadows fleet. I saw he had Ex-Victoria 943 inside the shops as well. I decided to go check the PWT Red Arrow shop in N.E. Calgary and found Ex-Victoria #'s 942 and 954 there as well. Images will be posted shortly.

Here are a couple more images of #947 now showing with fleet numbers and ads removed:

Will the fishbowls survive until the end of this years Spruce Meadows season?

No idea. I sure hope so. At least a few should since there are 7 in total and only 4 Classics from what I have found and heard. At least it's not Low Floors killing them off...

So... it appears that the Classics headed to Regina are the '91s...

Make sure and let us know if any more turn up... and especially if any ex. Vancouver Classics make it there... (They'll have 4 numbers - or original BC Transit scheme with black windows, or the BC Transit blue and red with CMBC's sweep... Just so everybody knows!

Yes of course I will let you know if I happen to be out that way. But these 4 Classics seem to be in Calgary to go in operation for PWT - Red Arrow's fleet of Spruce Meadows shuttle fleet. It does not look like they are headed east of here with the fact two are actually parked at a PWT yard in Calgary and two others are at a shop that frequently does work for PWT.

Last time I spoke to my contact in Regina in May, the option to buy ex-BC Transit classics was not happening. Now if they changed their minds since, I don't know.

I should of posted this months ago, but in Feb of this year, I spoted a bunch of Spruce Meadows Fishbowls parked in a field just off of highway 2 and highway 566. There gone now of course.

Yeah, in Balzac? Southland (PWT) has a yard there and they were storing some of the Spruce Meadows Fishbowls there for awhile. All 7 of the Fishbowls have since been moved back to the Red Arrow shops in N.E. Calgary. Of course, many saw service earlier last month.

Here are some images of the Ex-BC Transit Classics at this following link now operating for Red Arrow / Spruce Meadows in Calgary: http://www.busdrawings.com/coach/redarrow/...0102n/index.htm . As well, a shot of Southland Transportation #3924 recently repainted. I wonder if it will get the yellow stripe which is typical of the Southland fleet as of late.
