SEPTA (Pennsylvania)

Could be that as well as some of SEPTA's contracted Routes where those roads are narrow and have tight turns especially some traveled on small suburb streets as well as office corporation grounds and Paoli Station where areas are tight there as well.

A 4 year old girl somehow wonders off from home to get a frozen treat before getting into a SEPTA Route 56 bus where passengers and the SEPTA Driver rescued them (The SEPTA operator called his supervisor who brought in Police to retrieved the girl)

Agreed, some of the older locations/neighborhoods are tight and can use smaller width to reduce the turning radius. That was a problem with DART FIrst State too, shorty Gilligs wasn't much help on tight narrow streets in older areas of New Castle County.

"Philly is Baltimore" protest occurred in Philly. In the pictures posted from various social media feeds (Twitter, etc) there were some pics especially in SEPTA's buses disrupted by the protesters. Some commuters working at Center City Offices left early ahead of the planned protest late afternoon during evening rush hour. Luckily overall, the protest wasn't as violent as in Baltimore on Monday.

SEPTA plans to spend $154 million on new locomotives. SEPTA is buying 13 "Cities Sprinter" ACS-64 locomotives to be built by Siemens Industry Inc., the German conglomerate, at its factory in Sacramento, Calif. The price includes an option for five additional locomotives. In addition to the new locomotives, SEPTA will buy 525 hybrid buses over five years. And it will soon begin the process of procuring 45 bi-level railcars to increase capacity on the Regional Rail lines.

525 new hybrids? That's a commitment to hybrid buses that rivals KC Metro!

Don't forget that SEPTA is also in the process of acquiring the 30ft buses as well as new Regional Railcars EMU units likely named Silverliner VI as well as light rails too; this is also in plannings from their FY2016 Capital Budget Report Plans aside from that latest news report that they approved that purchase plan.

I find it amusing that they still order the buses with those orange strobe lights... it's as if they really want you to stay out of their way.

IIRC they are for emergencies. If you see it flashing its meant to call 911 as an emergency is happening on the bus.

Good news for trolley fans and clean quiet buses!

SEPTA is investing in a modernization project. Shuttle buses will replace trolleys while a 12-week project takes place this summer.

The buses will replace the trolleys for the entire line June 15 through September 6. The work includes track replacement and changing out the overhead trolley wires.

SEPTA has released its preliminary service plan for the World Meeting of Families and during the Pope's visit, which includes some altered transit service to accommodate expected high ridership during those period.

For September 26-27, the changes largely affect rail services like Regional Rail. For the Regional Rail, services will deeply reduced in expectation of large crowds and the number of stops will be cut back. Also, passengers using Regional Rails needed to buy and only use those passes on 9/26 and 9/27 to ride the regional rail trains.

SEPTA has a rfp for 525 40ft. diesel hev buses...there's a pre-bid meeting on June 22th...it closes on August 7th...the delivery schedule calls for 90 buses in 2016, 105 (option 10)in 2017, 100(option 15) in 2018, 115 in 2019 and 119 in 2020...I'm curious if Gillig will bid on it...NFI and Nova Bus probably will.

Interesting RFP, depending on how plans are going in the proposal, these buses may start arriving from 2016-2020

On June 17, one of SEPTA's Nova LFS Artic HEV made a stop at State College to be tested by CATA for its evaluation if it is feasible to serve on its route in the future.

Does the RFP specify Allison or BAE hybrid drivetrain?
