I think if Merlo mechanics had it their way, they would bring them back...I am not convinced however that we are going to see more Flxibles, probably just even less as Center gives away more of their "less desired" buses...honestly I'm surprised Merlo isn't getting more 2500's from Center's handed down fleet.

The 2100 series are more probable there (Merlo), if those Flxibles really are going away...

TriMet's new bus purchasing program extended through 2019! The story is a happy one, but the proofreader needs to know that it's "Hayward," not "Haywood." Anyway, their second contract for purchasing buses will be concurrent with the first one that is set to expire in 2015.

Big surprise right now: spotted 3149 on Line 45 at 12:42 PM. Looks like Merlo is getting their 3100s in now... I wonder if that means Center will get some 2900s, seeing as they've been part of the Merlo fleet for 4 years now?

Also, found 1705 on Line 19 at 12:46 PM to Gateway TC.

Funny... because right now I see 2009 on Line 6 at 6:28 PM, 2011 and 2012 on Line 9, 2004 on Line 12, and 2005, 2010, 2014 and 2021 on Line 75 (6:33 PM). Line 75 even plucked a Powell NF 2296.

Now I saw 3152 on Line 20 at 6:30 PM... and 3150 on Line 47 at 6:32 PM.

Line 92 has both 3148 and 3151 at 6:35 PM.

It's odd that Merlo is choosing to work these new buses on low-ridership/express routes first.

Today's new bus finds:

3153 on Line 61, 5:43 PM

3154 on Line 20, 5:34 PM

3155 on Line 57, 5:41 PM

3156 on Line 54, 5:34 PM

3157 on Line 52, 5:33 PM

3158 on Line 57, 5:34 PM

And you know what this means: only 12 left to be delivered this year!

Center Street has 45 units, 3101-3145

Merlo Road has 25 units, 3146-3170

  • 2 weeks later...

Could anyone please keep me up to date on TriMet's planned buses to be retired: the 1990-91 Gillig Phantoms and 1992 Flxible Metros? These retired buses can be found at either one of TriMet's three bus garages (Center, Powell or Merlo) or on a flatbed truck. If you have any pictures of these retired buses, please post them here so I can keep the retired/active list of these dinosaurs up to date.

I already know the remainder of their 1994 Flxible Metros 1817-1843 have been removed from the roster during the summer.

Spotted: 3166 on Line 78-Beaverton/Lake Oswego, 1:55 PM.

Therefore, delivery of all 70 buses this year is now complete!

~Ben

It is complete - bus 3170 on line 20 this morning makes the 2013 delivery complete and all buses are on the road. Now to see how long Merlo takes to phase out the remaining Flexible buses...at this early hour there are none out, but I still think it will be some time until they are gone.

Also found that one on Line 4-Division/Fessenden today at 9:07 AM.

Do you know what I find funny is that everyone wants TriMet to get articulated buses but they not listening to the public. Do you see TriMet buying articulated buses?

Other than the success of MAX Light Rail, TriMet also doesn't believe in articulated buses since they had a bad taste with the 87 they did have... 45 different problems in just the first five years of their operation, which led to the agency filing suit against both the Hungarian bus builder and its U.S. distributor at the time (the defunct Crown Coach Corp., better known for its line of school buses).
