They are getting new 40ft buses now? First time since 2003! How many and are they replacing the 2003 Orion V diesels? Also, I'm guessing #1577 is now retired? Also, I'm guessing #1577 is now retired? Yes, Golden Gate Transit will get 67 of these New Gillig Low Floor Hybrids which will retire approx. 70 of the Orion Vs. I do not know the status of 1577. ---------------------------- Golden Gate Transit 1920 on Route 70 (Taken 7/4/2019) 2

I do not know the status of 1577. As I often say with pics of new Gilligs... great picture, terrible bus. Pretty tragic to think how Golden Gate's fleet has devolved: GM New Look... RTS... Flxible... Orion... Gillig. If that bus had a quote bubble to speak for Golden Gate Transit, it'd say something like this: "We were once something classy, something unique, something special. Now we're just another struggling, mediocre bus system with institutional vehicles and sagging ridership." Even that paint scheme... takes the least interesting elements of all their previous schemes. It's almost freakin' 2020... and the best they can do is something straight out of the 1980s? Must say, I'm surprised to see hybrids in this application. Are they a good fit for the higher-speed, longer-distance, limited-stop service that Golden Gate Transit operates? My sense is that, now that hybrids have matured, their best use is low-speed, stop-and-go urban service. Even in Cali (NorCal, anyway), diesel remains the most efficient choice for longer-haul services. Oh well. Thanks for sharing!

MAX BRT
An informative article on Golden Gate Transit and Marin Transit came out yesterday. https://www.marinij.com/2019/08/26/golden-gate-transit-rolls-out-68m-hybrid-bus-fleet/ I was especially interested in the discussion of two electric buses owned by Marin Transit. (quote) In an update to the Marin Transit Board of Directors in July, Whelan said the electric buses were performing better than expected and were able to travel between 80 to 100 miles using less than half of the battery power.
