4301 is literally the only artic in the fleet with the old (maroon & blue) paint scheme, is it not? And if I am not mistaken, it's the only (current) artic to ever wear that scheme.

All the other 4300s sport the dark blue "Rapid" paint scheme. I'm nearly sure they were delivered that way (as in, not wrapped or repainted). I recall seeing ~a dozen of them parked at North Yard in January 2015 before entering service -- they were blue.

Then, the 8300s were delivered in the current Solutions That Move You paint scheme.

It makes me want to see 4301 without the wrap!

That is correct - 4301 is the only non-blue 4300 in the fleet. It is my least favorite due to the wrap obstructing the view out of the bus, which would make me very excited to see the wrap removed.

This talk of VTA artics makes me wonder about a fairly obvious question:

Do they regularly run anywhere other than El Camino routes (22 + 522) and the 500?

They were holding down the 181 before the BART extension -- then jumped over to the 500 once Berryessa opened.

I can't picture them ever showing up anywhere else. Any reports of an artic occasionally slipping onto the 23 or 66 or something like that?

Which leads to a related question: are all artics based at North? Or are there some at Chaboya, too? To my knowledge, Cerone has never had artics.

All artics are based at North Division because the proximity to the 22 and 522 are not far from the yard. And on schedules, some 522 buses start El Camino & Showers which is not far from North Division. Chaboya and Cerone are just 40-foot bus yards.

There were artics previously on the 523 (in late 2019). Due to clearance issues at Lockheed Martin Transit Center, the 523 is all 40-foot buses. No reports of artics running previously on the 23 or 66.

The 22, 500, and 522 are run with all 60-foot articulated buses (outside of extra service assistance - which often comes in 1000-series Gilligs). I have seen on rare occasion a 60-foot bus on the 23 (usually on Sundays). Reports were that the articulated buses would jackknife at turnaround stop at Lockheed Martin so the implementation of articulated buses lasted a day or so of the introduction of the 523.

Also of note, it appears the majority of the 4300's and 8300's have permanent driver security barriers installed on them - these are similar to those in LACMTA buses where the top panel (transparent) can be opened independently of the lower door portion vs. the slider panel that can slide open or shut that is seen at agencies like TriMet. With these barriers installed the pull-down COVID barrier (the clear plastic sun shade) has been removed. My guess is that the security concerns that often arise on the 22 and 522 expedited the process of getting these barriers installed on the New Flyers.

The wrap of 4301 covers the sides of the bus, which still retains the maroon and blue stripes reminiscent of the 4400's. The evidence is at the rear of the bus where the stripes are visible. Obviously the front of the bus was wrapped with the new logo, and as a 4300 series bus this vehicle sees most of its action on the 522 despite its white livery.

This morning (3/2/2021), a 29-foot Gillig BRT (4102) was involved in a bus hijacking this morning while on Route 59 to Valley Fair. The suspect has been arrested and has been booked into Santa Clara County jail.

News story from KPIX: https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2021/03/02/santa-clara-vta-bus-hijacking-scott-blvd-monroe-fremont-street/

Here is some evidence about what route 4102 was on and the last time it was seen (ignore the "59 to Baypointe Station" part because the bus never finished its trip to Baypointe Station. 0209 finished the 8:19 AM Route 59 trip to Baypointe Station instead [evidence seen below]) :

Did the bus driver leaves the keys on ignition inside the bus unlocked with the tracking system in it

Horrific news out of the VTA light rail facility. As much as I'd like to give my thoughts and prayers into this tragedy, we need much more action against gun violence.

Prayers for the family of the victims. These mass shootings are really getting out of hand 🙏

Words cannot describe how sad I am about this recent shooting at a transit facility. My thoughts and Prayers go out to the victims familes and their loved ones. ✝️

It seems like every year there are more mass shootings and I really do hope that this will not be the norm coming out of the pandemic. Sad 😪
