97SCT Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 AFAIK, you are correct. I just checked the WIKI and see they are not listed in there however. They were wheelchair lift equipped and Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engines. well there were actually 65 from looking at various Canadian rosters that bought them, as well as another member mentioned it
lap_screw Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 well there were actually 65 from looking at various Canadian rosters that bought them, as well as another member mentioned it you don't see very many photos of the 9xx's how long did they last?
tomsbuspage Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 you don't see very many photos of the 9xx's how long did they last? A Fishbowl done up in the newer SDMTS colours was demolished in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, released in 1997, but the bus was an older bus as it had the emergency exit on the driver's side. It was numbered 967, so it was probably a fake.

AMG Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 you don't see very many photos of the 9xx's how long did they last? There were still a few left in Fall of 1998. I don't know when they last ran, but I don't think they ran that much longer, whether they were replaced by the next order of C40lfs or by contract buses, I could not say. It was several years later before I made it back to San Diego. At least as late as 1995, they were out 7 days a week.
sdlinguist Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Ride on a new C40LFR: They're out in force! I saw as high as 612 yesterday.
busdude.com Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 ound this on another board, ex San Diego U2s now in Mendoza, Argentina http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.p...009&page=35 Lots of pictures in there, its intresting how they can take used US equipment and get even more life out of it. How many of the origonal U2s are left in service? Seems like they have some pretty high numbers. Does anyone know how many they got?
tomsbuspage Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Found this on another board, ex San Diego U2s now in Mendoza, Argentinahttp://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.p...009&page=35 Gotta love the MTM logo! They basically took the MTS logo, stripped off the S and pasted on an M.
neoartic7101 Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Question to those from the area who may know: Transmission in the 2011 C40LFR's... is it a ZF Ecomat 4 or ZF Ecolife?
jfs1988 Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Can this photo be added to the wiki? 2801-2870.
sdlinguist Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Can this photo be added to the wiki? 2801-2870. Done! Question to those from the area who may know: Transmission in the 2011 C40LFR's... is it a ZF Ecomat 4 or ZF Ecolife? There's some discussion of this here, fwiw:
neoartic7101 Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 Done! There's some discussion of this here, fwiw: I know about that dicussion.... I am involved in that discussion... I am Phillyz Fynest on that argument, to me that transmission sounds like an Ecomat instead of an Ecolife, but it is hard to tell the difference in a New Flyer LFR series bus, because of that whining axle (or driveshaft which most ppl think it is...) which makes it hard to hear shifting to determine the difference.
sdlinguist Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 For anyone that's interested, I just published a webpage with results of a 3-month project in which I logged over 800 San Diego Transit bus sightings, to determine (1) which C40LF[R]s are at each of the two main fleet divisions, Imperial Avenue and Kearny Mesa, and (2) which routes are operated from each division. On the site I've posted some maps/graphs, the entire downloadable dataset, and information about the iPhone webapp I developed to log buses in the field, in case anyone wants to adapt it for a similar project. Check it out! http://idiom.ucsd.ed...in/mtsdivs.html I also updated the SDMTS wiki page with some of this info. A preview of one of the images from the webpage:
Nicholas Reed Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 This Thursday the MTS Board will buy 53 new C40LFR's. 31 to replace the 1600 Fleet 1600-1631, and surprisingly enough, 22 of the 2700's... i think that is a mis-print however, they could mean the 2200's. I'll inquire more with some of the contacts i have at MTS. http://www.sdmts.com/MTS/documents/4-19-12BOARDAGENDAONLY.pdf '2NW

Wow, they're serious about replacing the 1600s quite a bit sooner (12 years) than they had replaced the 1500s (14 years). Didn't see this coming. At this rate, we can even expect the 1800s to be replaced next year. And I hope you're right that 2700s is a typo -- it doesn't really make any sense (and the 2700s are one of my favorite fleets!). Let us know what you hear!
Nicholas Reed Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 Apologies for not getting back in a timely manner on this critical information. There was indeed a mis-type in the agenda about the 53 bus order. The 22 going to Veolia are NOT replacing the 2700's. That was entered into the record in error. It will be the 2200's and 2500's that are being replaced out of South Bay division. The information on the 1600's is correct. I'm working on getting fleet numbers for the new arrivals. When i know that information, i will pass it along, or you can check the MTS page on Facebook. They are quite quick about getting back to me with specific info such as this. No less, get your rides in on the 1600's while you can. While not my favorite ride currently (that honor goes to the wonderful 1900's), its still a part of our transit history. '2NW
sdlinguist Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Aaand...our 2012 C40LFRs are starting to show up! Looks like the main fleet portion of the order is numbered in the 700s: Probably relatedly, I saw 1627 and 1606 at the Kearny Mesa Division over the weekend looking like they were being retired. Not sure why they had to go to KMD (from Imperial Avenue, where all 1600s are based and where the 700s are presumably going) to be retired.

Most of the retired fleet usually ends up at KMD as its probably easier to get it transported onto freeways. Thats what i've seen at least. '2NW
sdlinguist Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 ZF transmission? Probably. I haven't actually seen any 700s in person yet, but as far as I can tell they're identical to the 600s. I'll definitely post here if that turns out to be wrong!
Shakey077 Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 San Diego MTS is hiring if anyone is looking for work! http://www.sdmts.com/HR/MTS_HR.asp
Nicholas Reed Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 ZF transmission? Yes theyve got ZF trannies in them.
FYBklyn1959 Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 Are there any of the Siemens-Duewag U2s (1000s) still running on the SD Trolley?
Nicholas Reed Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 Are there any of the Siemens-Duewag U2s (1000s) still running on the SD Trolley? Any? Try the majority of the fleet. However the 4000's are starting to roll in. 10 of the U2's have been retired to the Mendoza, Argentina system. Higher numbers, like 1061-1071. The majority of the 1000's will be retired by 2015. However according to my MTS sources several will stay on the property for Special Event services. I believe 1001 will be included in that batch. Also, i have a feeling that 1001 will become some sort of historical vehicle at some point. '2NW.
