Does everything still work when they auction off buses?

Not always. Whatever is wrong or broken will not be fixed. They auction them as is. 1 of the LBT buses says does not run and another one says no reverse.

Would they be a new order from New Flyer or just NFI's from the existing fleet? Would the routes remain "The Passport" and with their own livery?

I would love to see RTS's back on the street in LBT colors but only if they are dependable well built units like back in the GMC days. I grew up riding in the 4400's in the 80's and loved those buses. I had family working for LBT when the TMC models were arriving and on the road and would always hear how those were piles of junk. I just don't see it happening though. At least not for several years.

Sorry, I forgot about this thread haha.

They're going to do some rerouting, the Passport routes will go into the Transit Gallery instead of using Pine as well -- so some rerouting will occur.

So Pine Ave -> 1st St(Transit Mall) -> Long Beach Bl -> Ocean(ACD)?

1st ->Elm -> 4th (B )?

Colleague who does planning at LBT.

There is a diffrence between planing and actual service change, it probably is just an idea that he/she is trying to propose to the board of directors #just saying

Yeah, That won't make any sense O.o it will loose that Passport sense

I wouldn't worry about it. ieko's sources have been proven reliable in the past.

Well ieko could be right, idk but still, it would feel weird if they suddenly stopped serving that area between Ocean and 1st, I mean that area is the only thing that hasn't changed in some time for Passport service.

I'm not doubting, just giving an opinion, sorry ieko if I offended you

I don't know the exact routing, we haven't discussed it. Just that they have to switch to 40ft buses and so because of that, they can't use the smaller streets like Pine and will need to use the Transit Gallery instead. Passport will also see a reduction in headway because of the higher seating capacity.

I found out that there is going to be a redevelopment project along Pine Avenue, is that reason why service is changing?

I say keep the C the way it is. It's provides a direct connection to all of the attractions downtown, and thus tourists NEED frequent service. The Others I can see being to turned into standard bus routes, since they serve actual corridors, but I like the frequency the way it is.

Frequency should always be valued over capacity IMO. It makes transit more attractive since you don't have to waste your travel time waiting for a bus. Capacity should only be seen as an issue if frequency doesn't cure the problem(for example, the LA Metro Rapid 720 - even though it comes every 120 seconds at peak, it needs artics because even with the high frequency there could be 10 - 20 people at a stop at once)

Now, I know there are other factors - i.e. it's cheaper to run 1 40 foot bus than 2 30 footers, etc.

This could have something to with the grant they received for all electric buses along Pine.

It's not a huge adjustment in frequency, the routes will mostly stay the same as well. The only change is what type of bus/capacity they have and that they'll enter the Transit Gallery..

Are the D60LF's getting refurbished? There are some at this repair center on Magnolia Avenue and Anaheim Street.

They have used that place before for engine rebuilds and replacements.

The D60LFs need to last as long as possible. LB's, OCTA's, and SD's MTS' D60LFs are the ONLY Artics in SoCal left that aren't NABI 60 BRTs.

But we do need more Artics, I hope they consider the XN60

LBT needs to utilize the artics more then they do now. They use them on the 101-104 only basically now right. It would be nice to get the XN60 into the fleet though. Maybe they will.

I heard there's problems with the artic joint more than usual...

They show up on Line 172 like once a week (mostly sundays) and on the mornings on 191 or 192

Ahh ok. Maybe they are babying them till replacement time in 2014 or 2015. They used to be everywhere. I was amazed how many I would see on numerous lines for only 13 in the fleet. Hope they hold up and they get the XN's to replace them.

Those were the days when they were actually used on a line that really needed them, like the 51

Was there a time when LBT and NOT LADOT used to have service to San Pedro? I also keep hearing about lines 31-33 and 151.

Yeah used to see them on the 51 everyday and the 61/63 all the time as well but not anymore....maybe the next generation they will get more...they could easily used 25 or 30 artics...

Yep back in 80's and early 90's LBT did service San Pedro...in fact I think the bus stop signs in and around Port's O Call are still old blue LBT signs. Line 142 was orginally an LBT line, it started out as line 14 and ran from Leisure World in Seal Beach to Ports O Call and went into the Naval Shipyard and Navy Base (before the were decommissioned and turned into more port wharf's). It got split into the 12 and 14 the 12 doing the eastern portion and 14 doing the western and then through renumbering the became the 120's and 140's. Eventually only 121 and 142 remained and then the 142 contract was awarded to LADOT and the 121 became what is now Passport A & D.

The 31 & 32 were originally the 3 and they did 2 loops around downtown LB. East Loop and West Loop. I think it went down Third st to Colorado Lagoon at one point as well. It was later called the Tour de Arts and then became Passport B before that changed to Fourth Street to replace the 52.

As far as I remember they never had a 151...Del Amo was serviced by the 15 for many years but I don't think it ever got changed to the 151. South St was the 16 and it ran down the 710 to Downtown and was split into the 161 (Cerritos to Del Am and LB Bl) & 162 which kept the original route to Downtown via the freeway. 162 got canceled and the 161 changed to service the Del Amo Blue Line station with the 15 and the 23 (Santa Fe / originally the 2) Eventually they were all merged into the 191, 192 and 193 and recently 193 was canceled.

Lots of route and number changes over the years at LBT....

Wow... That is alot of history there

Yeah I do know alot about LBT, especially 80's onward to present. I used to have a huge collection of route schedules dating back into the 70's and some other memorabilia but stupidly I got ride of it all in my late teens or early 20's and kick myself now for that....
