GTAA LINK Buses

I just spotted a numberless white Nova 3rd Gen with LINK and GTAA decals turning from westbound Meyerside to northbound Dixie Road in Mississauga.

I guess the GTAA is replacing their old buses they use to connect T1 with the outdoor gates that AC Jazz uses. I'll take a look at the bus yard this afternoon to see if there's anymore.

You mean the white classic is being retired?

I doubt Pearson will be using Nova LFS's for airside transfers, like most airports they use purpose built buses from companies like Contrac Cobus for this.

That's the only bus service Pearson runs though and their Contrac Cobuses are getting on the old side afterall.

Also, there's a smashed up Cobus sitting on the north side of the bus maintanence facility.

I thought the GTAA ran shuttle buses for employees as well? Maybe I'm wrong.

Does any one have any history on the LINK system? When it started? I'm trying to put together a fleet list of all the LINK buses so if anyone has a complete list or knows of any buses missing from the list Ive put together so far, it would be greatly appreciated. I know the had SLFs, TL960s, and new Ultra LFs in 2006. One was displayed at an Expo if I recall corectly.

Any help is appreciated.

This is what I have so far: click here

What was the time frame that PMCL had the terminal bus contract? If I recal correctly, Pacific Western picked it up after them. Currently airport shuttles are operated by Coach Canada. Anyone recall when they picked up the contract?

IIRC, up till 2001 when I left they still had it......it was either late 2001 or 2002 that PWT picked it up.

Some of the D40LFs that are going to be used for the LINK shuttle have been decaled, still sitting behind Pacific Western on Ordan Drive. The windows have been wrapped too, the top 2/3 of the buses is a light blue while the bottom third is a darker blue. When I first saw the buses on Friday March 1st, the buses were all white, including the passenger window frames (which are normally black on most D40LFs). Maybe in a couple days I'll get around to posting pictures. The lot with the buses is viewable from the back parking lot of 1210 Mid-Way Boulevard, if anyone wants to check it out.

The LINK Train page has a photo of one of the D40LFs up, though not sure if the sign is photoshopped.

Nope it wasn't photoshop. I have photos of them from today with the highest number being 5262.

Drivers were been train and tested today.

There is a small card in the window saying Terminal 1 & 3

"This temporary change is due to the construction of the Union Pearson Express station, which will bring fast, reliable rail service to Toronto Pearson from downtown Toronto."

Too bad they couldn't take advantage of the shut down and make the LINK train a fast, reliable rail service too! It runs like it's on a washboard road, not rails! I will forever nickname it the "Life Insurance Express". So thankful TTC serves all terminals, because I get nervous riding it!

The first day of the Terminal Link operation began today. Lowest number I saw was 5246 and highest was 5264; assuming they are consecutively numbered with no gaps this would be all 19 units.

Stops include Terminal 1 Departures (upper-most) and Ground (bottom-most), and Terminal 3 Departures (upper) and Arrivals (lower). Buses operate in both directions (Viscount -> 3 -> 1 -> Viscount and Viscount -> 1 -> 3 -> Viscount) and serve the same stops so passengers need to ask the driver which direction they're going in. This seems to indicate there's probably 4 routes, one for each direction and each level of the terminals.

Signs are installed for the Terminal Link at each stop on both levels, and airport staff in reflective clothing force all cars, shuttles, and buses not operating for Terminal Link to another spot to ensure smooth operation of the Terminal Link. Frequency was quite good with buses every 2-5 minutes, and ridership was decent (probably 6-10 people on the three trips I rode).

The one problem: LINK Train #2 (track further away from the terminal buildings) was still running back and forth on its tracks for some reason. I didn't go check the LINK platforms but I don't think they were accessible.

Some photos are linked below, and more are available on my account.

There are 4 routes in total. Based on what I was told, 2 routes are for Employees of the Airport and 2 for Passengers. One Employee run goes to Terminal 1 Ground level and the other goes to Terminal 3 Arrivals Level. One of the Passenger runs serves Viscount Station, Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 Departures. The fourth run strictly goes between Terminals 1 and 3 Departures. I had to use it yesterday for work.

With the condition of some roads around the GTA, I think the LINK Train is a pretty smooth ride
