FIDO
I see the escalator at the Charles Street terminal is "Out of Service" again! How long this time? Any bets?

Leave By Rear Door!
Wow, Somebody voted "No" in the Poll. I guess they enjoy "walking up and down the escalators".
GRT 9401
That's just sad. The escalator's are probably the ones they had from Kitchener Transit.
vivablue5215
I really think the escalators should be converted to staircases. This is getting outrageous. Oh well, 3 more hours and back to Toronto for a good 5 months.
Transit Man
That's just sad. The escalator's are probably the ones they had from Kitchener Transit. Yes, they are the original escalators installed in the building when it was built for Kitchener Transit. From what I've heard, they can't even get parts for them any more, and most of the delays are when they are waiting for new parts to be fabricated! Oh My! mpd618
The money that would go for a replaced escalator could probably be put to better use elsewhere, like new buses or more service. So what if the escalator is temporarily stairs? Anyway, the transit network is going to get less terminal-focused over the next few years, and with GO and light rail this terminal will in any case be replaced with a multi-modal terminal at Victoria. So it may not be the time to be sinking money into the current terminal.

Leave By Rear Door!
Wow! The escalator at the CST is working by some miracle of technology. That has to be the shortest down time I can recall.

You know, it's really hard to find out how much a new escalator costs! The only figure I could find were $150-200K, but I don't know if that's for one or both directions, or any other factors. DJ Orion
Here's what they should do so they won't have to worry about escalator maintenance ever again.... Are you ready GRT and The Region? TURN THE ESCALATORS INTO STAIRS!!

Leave By Rear Door!
You mean turn them off? No; I'd say "tear them out and build a proper staircase" to the 2nd floor. For the "mobility impaired" there is still an elevator. (And I guess the elevator can also be used by "all the 'kids with kids' using strollers") As for the "staircase" ............. one upfront cost, no additional maintenance! It would save the taxpayers thousands!

hybrid1
I was reading an article in the Sun about the town hall meetings that kinnear was holding and came across the following in the comments section: Riders give transit union an earful By TOM GODFREY, TORONTO SUN Last Updated: May 2, 2010 8:04pm What goes up... Report Comment May 2nd 2010, 11:37pm I work for Otis and the availability of parts for ALL types and models is there. We also service other manufactures products and believe me, the wait time for parts is no more than 2 days on 99% of the componentry of any escalator. The wait can be a little longer on older elevators, sometime up o a week, but escalator parts are abundant as I said. I have heard that the terminal manager, will turn off the escalator if she sees kids playing on it. There are a lot of times the escalator is not functional and there are no maintenance workers around, then mysteriously the escalator works the next day. FIDO
King at Victoria where the Korean Store (?) and Beer Store (?) are. Great! Another Terminal "on a hill" !!!! Just what we need. (I'm not a betting man, but you won't see it happen on "that" corner.)
taylortbb
I wouldn't worry too much about the hill. There's going to be a very small number of GRT bus routes that go there, less than 5. The entire system is being re-aligned to be a grid system that feeds light rail, similar to how buses are setup most places with metro-like systems. The bus terminal is mostly for GO/Greyhound/etc. If you look at a proposed render (very early proposal) at http://www.rsarchitects.ca/projects/projec...L2=mmud&L3= you'll see they're planning for the buses on a relatively flat portion of the site.
