New Flyer Industries Discussion and Photos

Living in Seattle, the XT40's are of particular interest to me. I'm curious to see shots of them in any stage of production.

Here's a few I got:

I understand the concern about not dumping tons of photos of the NFI plant online, and I have kept back some photos taken on the tour as they are interesting but also IMHO operationally detailed. However I don't think these particular views necessarily give away anything important, they were taken with permission, they show no employees, and no requests were made by the NFI tour guide, or by CTHF to keep photos taken private or offline. (At least not that I heard)

Thanks for posting these. The concerns about posting photos taken within the confines of the NFI plant would be valid only if you were specifically instructed not to do so (or were told not to take photos but snuck a few anyways). If nobody said anything, you are free to post them anywhere.

We were only told not to take any pics with employees in it.

Was in St. Cloud today saw NYCxd40's and 60's,LA xn40's, OCTA xn 40,Minneapolis xd60's and Lafayette Louisiana xn35's

Nice, we'll probably be seeing those XD60 on the State Fair shuttles this year. Well, I guess I'd better try to get some final D60 photos and video in the next couple weeks while it's still easy.

On my way to work this morning I passed a New Flyer XN-60 being delivered. This was on I-94 headed eastbound from Saint Paul, MN about 5 miles west from the Wisconsin border. The destination sign said HSR and the fleet number was 1424. I checked the WIKI, the colors matched those of Hamilton, ON.

According to the article posted, the joint procurement includes options for 35/40/60-foot Xcelsiors in diesel, hybrid, and CNG configurations, as well as MiDis in diesel and CNG configurations.

It looks like we could soon be seeing a CNG version of the MiDi (MC30 or MN30?).

CNG MIDI is now possible thanks to the new ISB G that came out this year. It has several ratings and should give the Midi enough CNG power.

The ElDorado EZ Rider II MAX/BRT does just fine with the ISL G, so I don't see why would the ISB6.7G would really be necessary for the MiDi. Unless the EZ Rider II series is significantly heavier. ABQ RIDE's former Thomas/Dennis SLFs felt underpowered with their B Gas Plus engines.

New article in the press on NFI:

New Flyer bus maker in St. Cloud, Crookston keeps U.S. transit system rolling

http://www.startribune.com/new-flyer-bus-maker-in-st-cloud-crookston-keeps-u-s-transit-system-rolling/360682261/

The article says that NFI makes 23 transit buses a week in St Cloud, and "all told, New Flyer Industries Inc. produces an average of 50 buses a week at manufacturing facilities in St. Cloud, Crookston, Winnipeg, Indiana and Alabama."

I was wondering where New Flyer's Indiana location came from... apparently they supplied many of the small interior parts and fittings to New Flyer for many years before the entire company was purchased.

Looks that way.

Here is the press release from 2010.

North County Transit District (Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, and Oceanside, CA) ordered 26 XN40 buses with 12 buses/year for years 2-5. Also another 25 are identified in the Short term plan. This contract is for 35' and 40' buses, so expect some XN35 for SLF and C35LF replacements. New Flyer had the superior bus, and delivery schedule. New Flyer was also the lowest bid and commonality was very important. Electric AC and cooling system, and not sure what gearbox these buses will have but expect to see the 26 sometime next year.

No surprise since that announcement in that Joint Procurement led by Lafayette Transit that an Option CNG for New Flyer MiDi (I'm guess they'll likely be designated as MiDi MN30 and MN35 since New Flyer uses "N: for CNG model since the Xcelsior models unveiled).

I wonder if CATA in State College might consider the CNG power MiDi's to their fleet for lower ridership route because the current Eldorados are 12 years old now. CATA also the 1st operator to taker delivery of the 1st Xcelsior CNG model has great experience with New Flyer from their recent orders.

Since the consortium announcement with New Flyers planning to introduce CNG version of the MiDi, I almost MiDi model maybe consider as well for the 35ft fleet replacement at your area.
