I've been wondering - for freight trains, how do you people know when and where is the best time and place to get shots of trains? Is there a schedule for them, or do you just make your way over to a random area and hope a train passes by? I kind of want to get into railfanning, but I have no clue how to begin... And what are some ideal locations in the GTA to railfan?

There's no schedule for freight trains, and for me, I would just stand there and wait... Best way to begin railfanning, is to catch passenger trains, since they are scheduled.

So you have to leave it to fate? Lovely...

I've already kind of done that with GO Transit. I'm more interested in freight operations, though.

In the GTA, where would be the ideal place to railfan?
