microbus
The story changes every month... Their first plans were to build a bus garage on the land south of DLM... Then a couple of months ago the plan was to close half of Westwood in September to renovate and rehab the place. The second half would close when the first half was finished, and it was scheduled to take two years... but that has been put on the back burner for now. NAIT will get more property "when" Airport Lands becomes available, so they don't really need the Westwood land anymore. And they still have room for a building north of the HP Centre. And since they occupy those old buildings on the south side of 118 Ave west of the traffic circle, they could easily tear them down and build something different. I don't see the City giving up Westwood anytime soon, as it is close to downtown which saves travel time compared to other garages. And the City has the other departments north of Westwood too. I heard from a driver last night on the way home (he attended one of the Centennial open houses) that long range plans are to build a garage in the far north east (out towards where the Sikh Temple is on the way to Fort Sask). Plans are then to scrap WW because NAIT is really dying to have that property that WW currently sits on.

When many other cities would kill for a downtown airport and a trolleysystem we just toss ours in a heap.

And the City has the other departments north of Westwood too. I had heard of the plans to rebuild Westwood, and that was my understanding was that was put on the back burner due to funding. Cromdale would be kept in use for that reason. What Cromdale's status will be in September I would be curious to know, if the Westwood rebuild doesn't go ahead yet. I was discussing this with another board member... I can't imagine they would want to turn Westwood over to another user. I can't help but wonder what it would take for soil remediation. I would assume that's not a issue if Transit keeps Westwood open.
