Riding 8400 on a Square One-bound 19C as I type this. Huge luggage rack on the lower level closed side replacing two rows of seats behind the accessible seats. Driver says several of the newest buses have them (some only replacing one row of seats) for primary use on Pearson Airport service (Route 40 and possibly the 34 from Finch). Tight fit to squeeze by the rack to get to the back seats.
Articulated
Proper storage on the DDS buses commonly assigned to route 34 is sorely needed. Drivers do not like to use the small elevated luggage bay that was designed into the DDS buses, so they ask everyone to bring their luggage inside with them, which typically goes into the wheelchair areas. This typically leads to two problems: a) large pieces of luggage are basically unrestrained on the floor of the bus and can get knocked over or roll around when the bus makes sudden stops or turns; and the lower level gets overcrowded quickly because everyone with luggage has to stay on the lower level to hold onto/observe their luggage. Glad to hear that someone at GO has (finally?) noticed these problems. I'd be interested to see the design of these new luggage racks. IMO the 34 does not have high enough passenger volume, so they could really just keep the lower level for wheelchairs/mobility devices and luggage storage, with the majority of passenger seating on the upper deck. leylandvictory2
Shifting the passengers onto upper deck can pose a safety issue. It can potentally shift the centre of gravity of the bus.

This was part of the original design of the buses - but for whatever reason GO had not taken the opportunity to use it as yet. The racks are designed to be installed and removed, but are permanent enough that it's not done so on a daily basis. And there are two sizes, one taking up a single pair of seats and a larger version taking 2 pairs. But yes, I agree - these are sorely needed and long overdue. They are being shipped by rail, and many other members (here, in BC and in between) have spotted them in transit. New buses are built in North America, and would be driven here from the factory.
