The new Articulated buses, both 7000s and 8000s have the EMP system. I checked under the hood.

Yes, you can see it clearly on the video above (7167).

Once 7167 goes by the crosswalk (on the video), you see the lower left tail light (above the turn signal) is blinking instead of "twinkling".

We just got a new shipment of buses in today. Dunno how many, but I've had 5231 and 5229. The paper from earlier only went up to 5228. Both had 805 miles on them. So wherever they're built must be about 800 miles away maybe?

Hayward, CA to Phoenix is about 725 miles.

When a bus overheats, does the driver get it towed back and someone, from the E/B takes over the run in a different, or does E/B drive a new bus to the driver to continue on route, and E/B driver goes with the Wrecker

It depends. Usually, there are extra board drivers in spare buses stationed at holding areas throughout the city. When a bus overheats and breaks down, they'll send a "radio helper" from a holding area to take over the route, and send a mechanic to see if he can get the broken down bus back on the road again. If it has to be towed, depending on where on the route the radio helper is, and the route, they'll either have the radio helper continue the route until they meet up with the dead bus, then swap buses with the original driver, or send out another extra board driver with a new bus to swap out. In that case, the radio helper keeps going to the end of the route, then either returns to the holding area, or back to the garage.

Are holding areas, just Park and rides and transit centers?

Probably ran out of gas. They're testing the range on the new buses to see how far they can push them. We've had a few get towed back to the yard the past week or so with empty tanks. Scary thing is, a couple days ago, the guy in charge of scheduling the buses said "They should be good for 600 miles. They made the drive from California on one tank." And I'm thinking "That's all highway. There's a reason when you buy a car they give the mpg in city and highway. City mpg is usually half to 3/4 of highway. Lots and lots of stop and go, and idling with the A/C on."

It's the "go" that kills you; idling - not so much (but doesn't help). If you were to mimic a bus operation in your car, you would never make the the "city" rating.

Is there a list of each Blocks/Runs with Mileage so the guy in scheduling assigns the correct type of bus?

Total transit only operates 40' 2007 D40LFR buses 6455-6459/6481-6500 in addition to some cutaways. No artics out there. First Transit West however operates a large fleet of artics.

We are up to 5239 as of yesterday. Now if only someone would talk them into slowing down on buying new buses, and maybe hire more people to clean and fuel them. As it is we can't keep up and have buses going out late because of waiting to be fueled.
