George L. Posted March 28, 2010 Report Share Posted March 28, 2010 That's the standard configuration that Valley Metro uses on most of their New Flyer 40' low floors. In fact, the only New Flyer low floors that do not have that door configuration are the ex-airport C40LFs, the 2006 C40LFRs, and the 2007 D40LFRs. The 1994 D40LFs, 1996 D40LFs, 2007 D40LFs, 2008 C40LFRs, 2009 C40LFRs, and 2010 L40LFRs all had/had the door after the second window on the passenger side. Remember, Phoenix was the first operator of the NABI 40-LFW, so they derived that design in part from the design of the 1994 and 1996 D40LFs that Valley Metro had. Also, I am pretty sure I have seen 6648 as a 2009 C40LFR.3we You are right about seeing 6648 as a 2009 C40LFR. I've seen it before on an express run in Ahwatukee and it has the CNG tank on the top of the bus. Now most of you think the fourth digit is supposed to be an L for LNG, this was an error for New Flyer Industries as C is for CNG. Stalwart23 A minor correction to make with these serial numbers for Valley Metro. The 2007 D40LFs are as follows after some researching: 7C031404-31446 6501-6543 7C031728-31780 6544-6596 These buses are powered by a Cummins ISL engine. Why Valley Metro can't have get rid of the older buses? Because the older buses should be phase out. When they will accepted delivery sometimes in early 2011. Last time that I heard Valley Metro is suffers loss $22 millions dollars and some of those routes is eliminated & changes the routes due to struggling economy. So that's why it was not good enough at all. And here's 6673 Wow!! Cool! Thanks for sharing the photos. They don't have one here on routes 44 yet. Stalwart23 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Share Posted January 20, 2011 Yesterday afternoon, I was lucky enough to be at a public ceremony for the unveiling of the new LINK service along the Arizona Avenue corridor in Chandler. The event took place in downtown Chandler. They had one of the new buses on display that are going to be used on this line. THis bus was one of the first New Flyer D40LFA buses to be built. It is numbered 7003. The ribbon cutting ceremony had the mayors of Gilbert, Mesa and Chandler; as well as the ex-mayor of Chandler, and other people that work for Valley Metro. This line will start at Main St. & Sycamore in Mesa and run to a park & ride just east of Germann Rd. & Arizona Ave. In fact, I also got a chance to view the interior of the bus, in which the seats are made out of recyclable materials. The builders plate states that the bus was built in April 2010, and its vin number is 5FYD7FV18AC037055. Here is a photo of the new D40LFA bus that was on display. But I'd be surprised to see L40LFR on Phoenix Transit routes. The New Flyer order was for Valley Metro (RPTA), on which Tempe would piggy back. Phoenix was going to order El Dorados, until the sales tax revenues went south. It wouldn't be impossible for Phoenix to "lease" buses from Valley Metro, but I haven't seen any paperwork to that effect (usually takes at least an intergovernmental agreement). Phoenix appears to have had what seems to be a surplus of buses ever since the large New Flyer order came in back in 2007 (with the 96 D40LFs and 30 D60LFs). The 20 2008 D60LFs combined with the service cuts probably allowed them to begin to retire a portion of the non-rehabbed 1998 NABIs. From the numbers above, it appears that most of the retired buses were based at the South Division (which also houses all of the 2002 NABIs, 2004 D60LFs, and 2008 D60LFs). Well I heard from a friend that the Phoenix division now has some L40LFR's because they were spotted on the 0. Your friend very well could have spotted a L40LFR in Central/Downtown Phoenix. The Tempe division operates express route 512 (which goes down Central Ave). 6113 now up for auction....latest bid is $2275. But I'd be surprised to see L40LFR on Phoenix Transit routes.
