Especially with a whistleblower appearing on 60 Minutes (TV show). Probably a coincidence since maybe a rogue employee decided to take down the social media network for as long as possible. FutureHeartsJunkie
On this National Teacher's Day today, it is sometimes appreciative to honour a teacher that you know in the past (either currently teaching, retired from teaching - or sadly, passed away). For my entire life, there are some teachers I like and some I hate (it still haunts me to this day) but it's always an honour to send their token of appreciation. Sadly, some teachers can act a bit serious (and some of them went beyond the line). There was a time that I didn't have the "means" on how to file a complaint against a teacher back then but as time had passed - this still haunts me. My takeaway advice: if you have a child who is being picked, yelled or being abused (verbally and physically) by a teacher - you have the right to file a complaint against a teacher. Only problem is - will that teacher counter-complain (is there such a word for this?) against a student/parent (in retaliation) who files against them? GTAmissions1
Triangle Rewards (Canadian Tire loyalty program) just rolled out invitations for their paid premium subscription Triangle Select which is $89/year and doesn't renew automatically. Customer has to request an additional year before the subscription expires. 10x the Canadian Tire money on most purchases within the Canadian Tire suite of stores along with a 25x the Canadian Tire money on select brands. Plus an annual top up of 20x the Canadian Tire money on the largest Canadian Tire purchase and second most expensive purchase at a store within the Canadian Tire suite. I know that Cineplex rolled out their monthly subscription program with more perks. Of course stores are trying to generate more revenue with Costco operating on the membership model for years which generates most of their profits. Minimal costs for maximum benefit. T3G
Is this the most Toronto sentence ever written? I think so. From Louis Pursley's Street Railways of Toronto 1861-1921. Nonsensical community opposition to transit is an art older than time itself.
FutureHeartsJunkie
Still reeling in the news about CIBC (one of the Big Five (plus one) banks in Canada) being awarded the "contract" for the Canadian Costco cardholders' portfolio from Capital One's Canadian operations. The good thing is that CIBC will "preserve" the customers and being converted to the new Costco MasterCard that CIBC is going to launch in future. As for the card design - it has yet to be seen. I remember the time that some banks in Canada were restricted to one credit card product (i.e. RBC offered Visa, BMO offered MasterCard). Nowadays, all banks in Canada can now offer both Visa and MasterCard (and to a lesser extent - American Express) products. If my memory serves me right, (for example) RBC offers both Visa & MasterCard, while Scotia offers not only Visa & MasterCard - but American Express. Most recently, BMO has launched their VISA card product. There was a time that CIBC offered American Express about 20+ years ago, but it has been long gone. The similar case is true when CIBC once offered MasterCard products too (after acquring the credit card portfolio from Citibank's Canadian operations back in the early 2010s. Can confirm that Scotiabank is the only lender that issues all three major credit card types (Visa, Mastercard and American Express). Just saw BMO introduce their suite of Visa cards most notably Visa Infinite and Infinite Privilege. Especially targeting the high net worth/high spenders who bring in a lot of income or spend a lot on their cards. Trying to figure out how to generate additional revenue along with the competition from other card issuers fighting for the same business of credit cards. Credit cards are a pretty lucrative business especially with the interest rate charged.

Don't forget about those so called "prepaid credit cards". I have a few of those with me and while some of them offer rewards, there are sometimes drawbacks. I have the KOHO Prepaid Visa Card and their premium plan (which is $9CDN per month or around $84 per year) offers 2% cashback for transportation, groceries and restaurants (along with .5% cashback elsewhere). Their regular plan is about .5% cashback. I also have the STACK Prepaid MasterCard too. While they don't offer cashback, they offer some promotions in which you can earn a dollar-value cashback (i.e. get $1 cashback for buying gas, groceries, alcohol and other stuff). Most recently, I have the Wealthsimple Cash product that offers a prepaid Visa Card. That card allows you to earn 5% at restaurants, food deliveries and some convenience stores - but during the weekends (from Fridays to Sundays). They also currently doing a promotion in which you can earn 1% cashback (for a limited time - when this post was added).
81-717
Anyone know the type of train seen here (with a very H4-like interior) & the transit system it belongs to? My guess would be something like the Comet series cars owned by Metro-North & NJ Transit, but having ridden both systems none of the trains I caught had this interior. FutureHeartsJunkie
Todays the day is when the all-news radio stations owned by Rogers - have all been rebranded to Citynews Radio. I remembered the time in which 680 News in Toronto was (you guessed it) "680 News". The same goes for News 1130 in Vancouver, BC; 660 News in Calgary, AB and 1310 News in Ottawa, ON. Those station names mentioned have all been renamed to "CityNews XXX" (or XXXX CityNews). What does everyone have to feel about the change of "naming"? Reminds me when a similar rebranding took place for Sportsnet Radio many years ago.

Reminds me when a similar rebranding took place for Sportsnet Radio many years ago. I heard it late last night while I was driving into work listening to the traffic report and the thing that stuck out to me was the "Citynews...everywhere" tagline that's a spin on the old CityTV...Everywhere tagline. What gets me is that someone else can do their best saying the words or the variation of it they're using on 680, but it just isn't the same without Mark Dailey delivering it. You can hear an example of what I mean here. The nighttime trolleybus right off the top on Bay at Edward (World's Biggest Bookstore down the street!) just underscores how gone that whole era is now:

It seemed fine but I didn’t turn it off immediately which may have been a mistake. Definitely needs some work done- middle row of keyboard isn’t working, which means I can’t login at all. If you can borrow a USB keyboard and mouse from somewhere, you should be able to get around the problems with the built in ones and get logged in and at least run the machine enough to get whatever you need off of it and onto the backup laptop. That still sucks though. Hopefully it's easily repairable with a thorough cleaning.
GTAmissions1
Just looking at this plan that is proposed by one of Elon Musk's companies which is The Boring Company. It is a pretty ambitious plan considering that building 29 miles of tunnels underground. Almost building an entire Line 1 Yonge-University which is at 24.1 miles before the Yonge north extension adding another 4.6 miles if it ever gets built. The cost of building underground is not very cheap with all the geotechnical work and underground mapping involved to not damage the utilities before starting the digging process and tunnelling. The trip generators are there, but not sure how workable it really is especially with how some subway systems don't make a profit plus the private sector taking on all the risk building the network. Requiring a lot of capital before one passenger is even carried.
Tom1122
While I'm not a fan of Freaky Friday, I do know the premise behind the movie of a mother and daughter's minds switching. I had the thought about another mother/daughter switching places that could be interesting: Carrie and Margret White (of Steven King fame). Wayside Observer
I spent a good chunk of the day driving around enjoying the weather with all four windows down while I took care of a bunch of errands before heading to work. None of this is gonna be worth Jack shit if the Colorado river dries up, and lake mead becomes a mud puddle. Maybe figure out how Las Vegas itself is going remain viable in 30 years time before paying any lip service to an Elon musk theme park ride.

GTAmissions1
Ken Jennings starts hosting Jeopardy on a temporary basis until the end of this year effective today and on a rotating basis between Mayim Bialik. Especially today marks the one year anniversary when Alex Trebek passed away from pancreatic cancer and Jeopardy airing the final 35 episodes with a special tribute at the end. Alex's final episode was January 8, 2021. Season 37 Episode 75. Ken Jennings being the first of a series of guest hosts to help finish the season for just over a month before rotating to other guest hosts finishing in mid-August. Two weeks at a time and then for one week during the summer. I will admit it isn't the same without Alex with his commitment and passion for the show doing it for over 35 years. Hopefully Jeopardy finds a permanent host who can handle the commitment and expectations.
