I’m surprised they are moving some of the 8100s before the Novas get delivered to Wilson

Cuts cuts cuts and summer reduction is happening, so buses can move.

why wouldn't they train the operators is it because they're identical to the 79/8000 orions?

There's no need to train anyone on them because its literally basically the same bus. What's different? The design?

On the other hand, internally its slightly different so it would make sense mechanics are able to get a rundown before they move

These 2 are in service already right now, on 40 and 76

The maintenance side is less militant. The only major thing they’re adamant about is hybrid familiarization and lock out/tag out procedure on them -so they don’t have to buy your widow a gift basket.

Everything else is “you’re a mechanic, figure it out.”

As it is, the only difference between the 8000s and the 81s is the DPF is factory Cummins, and has a few more sensors….and the radiator fan is belt driven, not hydraulic. They can hit the ground running, as long as the parts are accessible.

What will be happening with the 8300s series in that case, in terms of if they’ll be moving or staying where they are?

If Wilson is getting all 134 of the new LFS HEVs, that corresponds nicely with the 119 buses left in the 81xx series. The extra ~15 units can allow some of the current LFS HEV to move back to Arrow or Malvern.

The 83xx have rooftop components (HVAC), and therefore are less ideal to maintain at Queensway.

And the LFSes don't have rooftop components (HVAC)? 🤔

In comparison to overall height, the centre of the 83xx batch is higher than the 81xx. The overall height of the diesel LFS to the LFS HEVs is the few inches that do not allow clearance between the garage doors and garage ventilation within the garage itself.

When I was working out of Queensway a handful of years ago, the 79xx & 80xx buses were clearing the garage doors, but the exhaust stack looked close for comfort on the 80xx buses than the 79xx because of the few inches difference in length (or height if I’m being visual correct)

They will be sent to Enterprise and Budget for rental bus usage. New project that will bring more revenue for private charters.🙂

Despite being 12 years old, at least they have plenty of miles a lot of them.

This weekend, for the new board, 16 8100s are expected to move to Queensway.

After years of servicing out of Birchmount and Wilson running from North York, Downtown, Beaches, East York and Scarborough, much of Etobicoke and West Toronto will usher a new era out of Queensway.  The 84/85xxs at Birchmount seem to be the official successors of the 81xxs, 77/78xxs, 66/67xxs, 62xxs and the other past buses.

Uh oh the handmedown parade has begun is there any way we can send them back?

Hey @Genius101 call your local councilor.

I wonder which batch of handmedowns Queensway will receive when it comes time to replace the Orion NGs in 2027 or so. Maybe the 8400 LFS Novas make a return? Or perhaps they’ll receive Eglinton’s 8620s?

Careful with dangerous thinking like that. The last time we let clueless politicians with a persecution complex meddle in transit, we got the Scarborough subway.
