If that's the case then why are wilson ops being currently trained on operating lfs hybrids? We had them for 3 years.

I'm speaking of more senior ops...

Yes, but the LFS HEV have only been based at 2 of the 8 bus garages. Meaning the 75% of operators that are not based out of Arrow or Malvern don't get them.

The short duration of their time at TTC means that any operator that was hired more than 4 years ago would have never received training on LFS HEVs unless they were based at the two divisions containing them (driver movements between divisions are not super common). So any Wilson ops who joined the TTC more than 4 years ago will need to be trained.

I agree...an operator who has experience with multiple bus models can facilitate easier transfer between divisions. For example, when McNicoll opened, they toke in ops from Malvern, Wilson, Eglinton and the other divisions. The ops who have had prior experience with say operating the Nova LFS model may have a easier time to acclimate with the buses allocated to that division vs. someone who's new and requires a bit more training.

If I recall, they are technically supposed to be trained on all models that are currently in use...

This statement is about 90% true for operators. Take myself for example: I’ve been trained on all models except the New Flyer and BYD e-buses. The LFS diesels and artics are fairly similar except for length and other specs between the orders. The LFS hybrids are a different ballgame in terms of operation and functionality. I find that they are an improved version of the diesels all together (personal opinion)

That makes sense, but wouldn't also mean any arrow op who came after summer 2019 might not know how to operate them?

New ops are trained on the main 4 models the TTC operates. Orion Diesel & Hybrids and Nova Diesel & Hybrids as well as the artics. If their division has eBuses they are trained on them too. Road and Revenue service test days are done with Wilson buses so they all have driven Orions, whether a diesel or hybrid, at least twice.

Even Birchmount operators who got hired in 2019 are not trained on the 81xx buses. Drivers who were trained on the 81xxs before 2019 would have to get recertifed as well.

These are temporary movements until some 1000's can be cobbled back into service.

Why are so many NG hybrids moving to arrow now?

There was a swap for 35-36's LFS HEVs. It's also rumoured this was because of the driver shield requirement (some conflict between the union and the TTC) in lieu of the recent attacks throughout the system.

As an operator, I can definitely say that I feel a lot safer operating a Nova than I do an Orion. The driver shield on Orion buses does not have enough coverage and separation, and still leaves a wide space for a scumbag to try something. On a Nova though, there is coverage all across, not to mention the fact that the barrier assembly is a lot more solid too.

Pretty sure the shield in the NG HEV's were the same ones since the beginning...so not surprised there....

Since it's been a while since arrow has had orions have they  stocked up on Orion parts or will the ng hybrids go elsewhere for repairs if orion parts are needed?

Why are the Orion's going to Arrow? Wouldn't it make sense for them to stay in their current respective divisions (Malvern, Wilson, Queensway, Mtd. Dennis)?

arrow is giving  some of their lfs hevs to wilson and lfs diesels to mount dennis, probably in preparation for the new hybrid order. They are being replaced by ng hybrids since they have lots of experience with them

This is exactly it. Not really a conflict, but a good response. Mgmt is listening and acting.

I also heard that orion's will get full cover barriers similair to the Novas.

So only 7 left at Wilson, I guess we only got a few more days of NG Hybrids at Wilson so we should get our pics while we can.

only remaining NG hybrids are 1358, 1359, 1371, 1378, 1381, 1385, 1398

1359 is still awaiting parts for repairs at Mt Dennis

Edit: pic of 1359 still parked at Mt Dennis
