RECAP

  • Auston Matthews and James van Riemsdyk each pick up 3 points (1G+2A each), Patrick Marleau scores twice in his Leafs debut, and Frederik Anderson makes 35 saves as the Maple Leafs trounce the Jets in Winnipeg 7-2.
  • Alex Pietrangelo scores twice, including the overtime winner, as the Blues blow a 4-2 lead, but would edge the Penguins 5-4 in the extra frame.
  • Connor McDavid scores a natural hat-trick and Cam Talbot makes 26 saves for the shutout as the Oilers win round 1 of the "Battle of Alberta" this season by a score of 3-0.
  • Wayne Simmonds scores a hat-trick; Shayne Gostisbehere and Jakub Voracek each had 3 assists as the Flyers score 3 PPGs and would go on to beat the Sharks 5-3.

NOTES

  • The Maple Leafs win a season-opener for this the first time since the 2013-14 season.
  • Connor McDavid is the first player in franchise history to score a hat-trick in the team's season debut.
  • The Sharks lose a season-opener for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

Stanley Cup Final: Tampa Bay and Calgary with the winner being the Calgary Flames, getting their revenge from the 2004 "no goal" in Game 6 of that series.
