This marks just the 12th time since the NHL went to a best-of-7 format where the home team has won the first five games of the Stanley Cup Final. The most recent series prior to this year to have this happen was back in 2011 between the Canucks and Bruins.

Patric Hornqvist scores with 95 seconds to go in regulation and Carl Hagelin seals with an empty-netter. Matt Murray makes 27 saves for the shutout as the Penguins become the following:

  • Stanley Cup Champions
  • The 7th team in NHL history to win five Stanley Cups.
  • The first team since 1998 to win back-to-back Stanley Cups.

Sidney Crosby is named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner for the 2nd year in a row. He is the first player to win the trophy in back-to-back years since Mario Lemieux in 1991 and 1992.

Jarmoir Jagr, the oldest player in the NHL has signed a 1-year deal worth $1 million and another $1 million in incentives with the Calgary Flames. The first NHL team to which he'll play in Canada! The "Travelling Jagr's" wouldn't need to travel very far this time!
I will post my predictions for both conferences later on today.
