Automated Announcements Spottings + Discussions

Recommended Posts

I'm going to bump this thread back up...

Beginning today until September 4th, there should be an automated Public Service Announcement telling customers to check their route for the upcoming service changes for September (as part of the "Check Your Route" campaign).

It comes on at random and is flipping annoying is what it is.

Heard it this morning on my way to work.

OMG! Me too!!!1! :P:lol::lol:

Bus 6375 has been changed to accommodate the new transfer printer. The NSAS screen has replaced the MDT.

EDIT: 1201 aswell.

I wasn't going to post this but since you brought this up, I might as well...

The following are the buses that will undergo testing for "SmartBus Next Generation" (all of the present SmartBus functionality from the present MDT to Clever Devices): 1201, 1202 (not installed as of yet), 4072, 4219, 5147, 6375, and 6590.

1201 was being tested this afternoon.

Love how it shows the temperature, now operators have no valid excuse to idle. Well unless the Clever Devices isn't working, which seems to be common enough.

Anyway isn't this supposed to include the presto readers? I didn't see any in the picture.

It comes on at random times as well, since it is the same feature.

Like at least we don't use all the features that are available through Clever Devices. We could broadcast the stop request through the system, like San Fran does (the "Ding Ding, please exit through the rear doors), we could put an annoucement like they have for every time a bus leaves a stop, with the "Please hold on", but we don't. But I found all those annoucements quite annoying when I went there. I am quite glad we didn't use those features. And this PS Annoucements look to be temporary, which is a good thing. In SF you tend not to be on a bus for long though, so it doesn't annoy you, but when you consider the ammount of bus stops along a route here in Ottawa, it would be annoying. Especially along a route like 2, 7, 12, or 85, with frequent stops that are short distances apart.

There is now a Priorty Seating announcement (Simmler to the random check your route announcement ) being played over the nsas system and other misc improvements
Oh god, now we're turning into MUNI with the random annoucements. Great. Glad I don't ride the bus every day now.

As of yesterday at the earliest, all buses have been equipped with Clever Devices. 6391 has finally recieved the technology, however, it was installed in the top left corner, not on the farebox.

OK  Which one is this again?

Is that tthe one that has the large LCD scren next to the driver mounted on the fare box.

There are different things going on its hard to keep track?

The Clever Devices screen, which should have been mounted to the farebox because of the new set up, was mounted in the original location in the top left corner of the drivers compartment where it was installed originally on all buses except this one last year. (Bus was in an accident and was never equipped until now). It is a waste because more hours will be put on the bus to retrofit it down on the farebox.

Today, I rode Orion VII, Inveros and D60LFRs, only the D60LFR were programmed but not all. In total, rode 4 buses with it.

I've confirmed with a source that the exterior announcements were activated by accident by Clever Devices who was working with OC on this. The original plan was to have exterior announcement ready only for the Winterlude Sno-Bus Service, where the system would welcome passengers as they are boarding the shuttle service. They are in the process of removing the exterior announcements on all the buses, once the next update comes into effect.

I can see some people with vision impairments complaining as it benefits people who cant see identify the bus that arrives
