I watched a video on YouTube of someone asking people on Reddit if you had 20,000 of the last thing you bought online. ...snip...

I would have 20,000 Western Electric 29A46 payphone locks and keys! ?

I got hauled in to work on overtime today.  It wasn’t expected and I didn’t have anything ready to go for lunch since all the burgers got eaten last night which meant I had to buy something.

And that meant a visit to the bank machine.  I put my card in the slot and that act was like the touch of death because the machine died completely.  Totally dead, the lights are off and nobody’s home, and it ate my card.  It took a while to call it in and fault report the machine and get the card cancelled in case it springs back to life later and spits it out.  Luckily I have another card for another account at another financial institution so it’s really an inconvenience and I’m not sunk.  Actually, I couldn’t stop laughing about how it totally died as soon as I touched the thing.

Next stop:  Hike to a Pizza Nova near the train tracks with the idea of grabbing a slice and then hiking further to a park overlooking the tracks to eat and watch any trains that might come through.  A little foam while on overtime rates on a beautiful day’s no problem, right?

Didn’t happen.

I had an unexpected game of tug of war:

That very bold, very brave squirrel gets an A for effort but did not succeed in stealing my lunch!

Yesterday I heard an amusing story at work.

A few days earlier a customer had bought a Weber BBQ at my Home Depot and took it home and assembled it and added the propane tank. The BBQ didn't work. They called Weber who asked them to try removing and reattaching the tank. It didn't work. They came in yesterday and spoke to a coworker about it.

It turned out the propane tank they were using was empty!

We now have another regular cat visitor to our backyard, who looks somewhat like our cat:

A few days ago this guy came to our backyard while my cat was outside along with the black cat who lives 3 houses down the street and comes by our house nearly every day (I always give him a treat), and the two of them kept staring at him, while he was staring at them:

The whole interaction could be summarized in one picture:

Meanwhile some squirrels were freaking out up in the trees, seeing that not 1 but 3 cats have taken over down on the ground ?

So a few years ago in my old neighborhood a developer ripped down a few single-story commercial buildings and built a 4 level mixed-use building with some retail on ground level and high-end apartments above. Their main goal was to capitalize on the in-demand expensive area and so of course these apartments are luxury and muy $$$. This was in spite of the overall market getting pretty saturated with new luxury apartments and a much more pressing need for affordable rental housing in the Twin Cities. Well I was just skimming over the apartment listings on Craigslist out of curiosity and noticed the listings for that building, 27 units available. IIRC the building had like 30 units total

So I noticed some interesting notes posted on a utility pole at the corner outside my building. Not the usual advertising or 'lost & found' type post, but a collection of several thought provoking notes, a 'tropical island' postcard, a Safeway receipt (lots of Kraft dinner and pizza on it, sort of what a low income person might buy over fresh produce).

I found it very interesting. It would be common to see such posts on utility poles in Vancouver (the artsy fartsy crowd) but not common here, unless maybe somewhere around Whyte Avenue).

What was funny though, this utility pole is at a cross walk, and as I am reading these, cars are continually stopping for me to cross LOL...

I saw the video especially the dispute between a van parked in a "no standing zone" and a truck with a container legally parked according to the department of transportation. Showed it to a few friends and they said "why can't they just call supervisors over to address the issue instead of arguing over who is right?"

Technically, the operator who is going straight has the right of way unless the light is red. Then should be parked behind the white line. Noting the van parked beside the container which didn't give any space to navigate around the bus making the right turn.

I do think this is funny still, but I think the two operators involved could have handled it better than argue it out.
