Future TTC Bus order Document request list Here R32PA16809 - FUTURE BUS PROCUREMENT OF TTC BUSES The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is seeking an expression of interest in order to identify and obtain information from firms interested in participating with future bus purchases. The TTC currently operates and maintains a fleet of approximately 2,000 buses to support the movement of its customers across the Greater Toronto Area. A move to steady state procurement has been implemented and the TTC plans on purchasing approximately 120 buses annually.

Optibus is nicknamed "La Oruga" by locals because the articulated buses look like big green Caterpillars. This is one of their newest buses.

I've been starting to notice more and more different transit in the media, either in the background of tv shows or movies, or in the forefront and featured, such as the GM Fishbowl in Speed or an HSR Classic in a commercial for ING Direct. Where have you seen transit in the media lately? In last week's issue of View Magazine, a comic called Weltschmerz takes place on a TTC streetcar.

  8. I'm wondering if anyone besides me has a favorite bus/engine/transmission combination because of the way it sounds? Obviously a lot of us are fans of screaming two-stroke Detroits, but does anyone have another one they personally like? For me, it's a Nova Bus Classic with a Detroit Series 50 and an Allison B400R transmission. In this case the transmission is heard much more prominently than the engine, and I find the B400R's whine under acceleration very pleasant to listen to. Calming, if you will.   10. What are your favorite powertrains? Some of my personal favourties are the 6V92TA/Allison HT-740 to HT-748, the Series 50/ZF, and the Cummins M11/Allison B400R. There are a few more that I really like, but I cannot think of them at the momment.
  11. Okay, I know it's a bit late to announce this just now, but on November 1st and 2nd, 2014, Market Street Railway is having another excursion. They did this at the same time in 2013. There may be more stuff, but this is the best of my knowledge. I am going.

  13. Word of mouth spreads fast. As was hinted in the TTS 2015 Fan Trips thread, yes a TTC RTS charter has been planned for the end of February. I would like to stress that this charter is taking place at night whereas the TTS charter is taking place during the day, and the two charters will not necessarily be covering/touring the same areas of the city. So now there are two RTS charters, not intended to compete with one another but to provide double the opportunity. A select few like to throw words around like it's nobody's business. Keep those kinds of opinions to yourself, most of which are based on false assumptions and stereotypes. Don't want a flame war? Don't start one. With that out of the way, here's what was posted regarding the charter on Facebook, in more detail: With all the uncertainty surrounding the retirement of the TTC’s Nova Bus RTS buses, charter ideas have sprung up again. For those longing for a rush of nostalgia, there is a plan to take an RTS out to Scarborough, East York, and the eastern part of Downtown, mainly covering the routes that Danforth Garage operated with the RTS before it closed down in March 2002. Every effort will be made to charter a bus with a perfectly working Luminator MegaMax 2000 sign and no bike rack to replicate an RTS out of Danforth Garage in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Here are the details of the planned charter in point form: - Date: Saturday February 28th, 2015 - Duration: 4 to 6 hours (hoping for 6) - Start Time: 6 PM (but please try to arrive before 5:45 PM to sort out registration) - End Time: depends on duration – 10 PM, 11 PM, or 12 AM - Break: yes, if charter is 5 or 6 hours in duration; a coffee shop is located nearby for food and/or washrooms - Areas/routes being covered: Scarborough, East York, Downtown (east of Yonge) - Main focus of charter: routes operated by Danforth Garage prior to its closure - Pick-up and Drop-off Location: Ellesmere RT Station - Cost: $50 to $60, depends on attendance - Payment Method: cash, in person at pick-up location Ellesmere RT Station is easily accessible by subway or RT, has ample parking available at no cost (free on weekends) immediately next to the station on the east side (accessible from the east service road off Ellesmere Road), and reasonably accessible by bus (about 5 minutes walking distance from the nearest 95 York Mills bus stops on Ellesmere Road at the west service road). Kennedy Road is the nearest exit off of Highway 401. The pick-up location will be on the west side of the station under the Ellesmere Road bridge (the 95C bus stop is nearby, but the branch does not operate on weekends). For those driving, access to the pick-up location on the west side of the station from the parking lot on the east side of the station is via the station entrance (stairs down, tunnel, stairs up; a fare is not required to cross over to the other side). The original plan for this charter was for it to take place sometime in the summer, but because about half of the RTS buses have been pulled off the road and an increasing number are receiving Luminator Horizon designation signs, it was decided to have the charter before the beginning of next month (as it is feared even more will be withdrawn).   16. Does anyone know the exact release date of the T-drive Nova Bus RTS-06 Wide Front Door? I am trying to confirm that 1997 Nova Bus RTS-06 WFD's were V-drive only, but I am not 100% sure if that is truly correct.

  18. I couldn't find anything on this "photography forum" on school buses. I spotted this very old Crown school bus in good shape (from first looks) near Pier 70 in SF. I actually took this picture through the gate (which was quite difficult) and cropped it. Does anyone know what model this is at first looks?
  19. I don't know much about the Cummins VTB-903 engine. It seems that there also existed a VT-903. I have only seen the VTB-903 be used in Flyer D900 buses. Does anyone have more info?

On, June 11th, 2014, my mother spotted this mysterious GMC New Look (with an interesting marquee on it) in the Hunter's Point/Naval Yard area of San Francisco. I may go to the area to see it one day. Does anyone know the model by first looks?
  21. Are there any buses with Detroit Diesel 6V92TA's still running in California?
  22. Some VIN (vehicle identification number) codes may not match the attributes they actually have. I found this out: Queens Surface Corp. no. 847, a 1981 GM T8H-5307A, has a VIN of 2GHYT82J0B3500891 which, per the engine code letter, would suggest a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine but this bus actually has an 8V71N engine which should imply this code letter be an "H" instead of a "J." The correct VIN (with 8V71 engine) should be 2GHYT82H4B3500891. Another example is Markham Transit. Their two 1983 Orion I 30-foot buses have these VIN numbers... 2018: 2B1119771D5524814 2019: 2B1119773D5525821 ... which would suggest these came with Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engines but actually have 6V71N engines. The actual VINs should instead be: 2018: 2B1119272D5524814 2019: 2B1119274D5525821 Another Markham Orion I fleet are their two sets of 40-foot buses dated 1985 and '86. Engine code VIN suggests 6V92TA engine, but some say the actual engine is 6V71N. If that was really the case, their VINs should instead be: 2021: 2B1169270F5001229 2022: 2B1169277F5001230 2023: 2B1169279F5001231 2024: 2B1169270F5001232 2027: 2B1169276G5001401 2028: 2B1169277G5001407 2029: 2B1169272G5001413 2030: 2B1169273G5001419 ~Ben

Now let's discuss it, I have seen 607 in real, the train I was on started in NFS then I boarded in St. Catharines heading to the CNE the trip was normal until we reached the Willowbrook Yard and TMC and I saw a BBD 2000 series Bi-Level with it's doors partly painted In the new scheme. Then we reached Mimico to our delight 607 pulls up with a wired consist. 607, Cab, Bi, Bi, Bi, WC, Bi, Bi, Bi, Cab. That was caught on video, to me I like the new paint but, digitally it looks bad. Oh and BTW I got off at Exibition and saw the 607 from the platform.

  25. Hi, I moved to Austria almost 3 years ago. My first trip to Innsbruck involved this brilliant red street car that took me up into the mountains. I simply had to live near and we have used it for everthing from skiing to groceries. It even acts as my sons school bus. I was highly motivated to make a special video of it for the world to see. I got some support from the public transportation department, who then asked me to make 3 or 4 more. Here are the first two. I really hope everyone enjoys them.
