Please let me know whether or not these TriMet Gillig Phantom VINs are correct. They are simpler (at least) to figure out than the Flxible Metro VIN codes. 1990 GILLIG PHANTOM 40102TBL10 (VEHICLE #s 1401-1463) (delivered 9-10/1990) (Cummins LTA10-270B engine / Voith D863.2 TriMet 1992 Flxible Metro VINs (1701-1808, 1901-1910)
Benjamin posted a topic in UPDATES & ADDITIONS
These are, hopefully, the correct VIN numbers for TriMet's 1992 batch of Flxible Metro "C" buses. http://cptdb.ca/wiki...ro_%27N_VINs%27 1701-1808 - model 40102-6C (Cummins L10-280E engine, Voith D863-W7 transmission) 1701: 1GF5ACPK5ND103378 1702: 1GF5ACPK7ND103379 1703: 1GF5ACPK3ND103380 1704: 1GF5ACPK5ND103381 1705: 1GF5ACPK7ND103382 1706: 1GF5ACPK9ND103383 1707: 1GF5ACPK0ND103384 1708: 1GF5ACPK2ND103385 1709: 1GF5ACPK4ND103386 1710: 1GF5ACPK6ND103387 1711: 1GF5ACPK8ND103388 1712: 1GF5ACPKXND103389 1713: 1GF5ACPK6ND103390 1714: 1GF5ACPK8ND103391 1715: 1GF5ACPKXND103392 1716: 1GF5ACPK1ND103393 1717: 1GF5ACPK3ND103394 1718: 1GF5ACPK5ND103395 1719: 1GF5ACPK7ND103396 1720: 1GF5ACPK9ND103397 1721: 1GF5ACPK0ND103398 1722: 1GF5ACPK2ND103399 1723: 1GF5ACPK5ND103400 1724: 1GF5ACPK7ND103401 1725: 1GF5ACPK9ND103402 1726: 1GF5ACPK0ND103403 1727: 1GF5ACPK2ND103404 1728: 1GF5ACPK4ND103405 1729: 1GF5ACPK6ND103406 1730: 1GF5ACPK8ND103407 1731: 1GF5ACPKXND103408 1732: 1GF5ACPK1ND103409 1733: 1GF5ACPK8ND103410 1734: 1GF5ACPKXND103411 1735: 1GF5ACPK1ND103412 1736: 1GF5ACPK3ND103413 1737: 1GF5ACPK5ND103414 1738: 1GF5ACPK7ND103415 1739: 1GF5ACPK9ND103416 1740: 1GF5ACPK0ND103417 1741: 1GF5ACPK2ND103418 1742: 1GF5ACPK4ND103419 1743: 1GF5ACPK0ND103420 1744: 1GF5ACPK2ND103421 1745: 1GF5ACPK4ND103422 1746: 1GF5ACPK6ND103423 1747: 1GF5ACPK8ND103424 1748: 1GF5ACPKXND103425 1749: 1GF5ACPK1ND103426 1750: 1GF5ACPK3ND103427 1751: 1GF5ACPK5ND103428 1752: 1GF5ACPK7ND103429 1753: 1GF5ACPK3ND103430 1754: 1GF5ACPK5ND103431 1755: 1GF5ACPK7ND103432 1756: 1GF5ACPK9ND103433 1757: 1GF5ACPK0ND103434 1758: 1GF5ACPK2ND103435 1759: 1GF5ACPK4ND103436 1760: 1GF5ACPK6ND103437 1761: 1GF5ACPK8ND103438 1762: 1GF5ACPKXND103439 1763: 1GF5ACPK6ND103440 1764: 1GF5ACPK8ND103441 1765: 1GF5ACPKXND103442 1766: 1GF5ACPK1ND103443 1767: 1GF5ACPK3ND103444 1768: 1GF5ACPK5ND103445 1769: 1GF5ACPK7ND103446 1770: 1GF5ACPK9ND103447 1771: 1GF5ACPK0ND103448 1772: 1GF5ACPK2ND103449 1773: 1GF5ACPK9ND103450 1774: 1GF5ACPK0ND103451 1775: 1GF5ACPK2ND103452 1776: 1GF5ACPK4ND103453 1777: 1GF5ACPK6ND103454 1778: 1GF5ACPK8ND103455 1779: 1GF5ACPKXND103506 1780: 1GF5ACPK1ND103507 1781: 1GF5ACPK3ND103508 1782: 1GF5ACPK5ND103509 1783: 1GF5ACPK1ND103510 1784: 1GF5ACPK3ND103511 1785: 1GF5ACPK5ND103512 1786: 1GF5ACPK7ND103513 1787: 1GF5ACPK9ND103514 1788: 1GF5ACPK0ND103515 1789: 1GF5ACPKXND103456 1790: 1GF5ACPK1ND103457 1791: 1GF5ACPK3ND103458 1792: 1GF5ACPK5ND103459 1793: 1GF5ACPK1ND103460 1794: 1GF5ACPK3ND103461 1795: 1GF5ACPK5ND103462 1796: 1GF5ACPK7ND103463 1797: 1GF5ACPK9ND103464 1798: 1GF5ACPK0ND103465 1799: 1GF5ACPK2ND103466 1800: 1GF5ACPK4ND103467 1801: 1GF5ACPK6ND103468 1802: 1GF5ACPK8ND103469 1803: 1GF5ACPK4ND103470 1804: 1GF5ACPK6ND103471 1805: 1GF5ACPK8ND103472 1806: 1GF5ACPKXND103473 1807: 1GF5ACPK1ND103474 1808: 1GF5ACPK3ND103475 1901-1910 - model 30102-6C (Cummins L10-280E engine, Voith D863-W7 transmission) 1901: 1GF5FCPK3ND103476 1902: 1GF5FCPK5ND103477 1903: 1GF5FCPK7ND103478 1904: 1GF5FCPK9ND103479 1905: 1GF5FCPK5ND103480 1906: 1GF5FCPK7ND103481 1907: 1GF5FCPK9ND103482 1908: 1GF5FCPK0ND103483 1909: 1GF5FCPK2ND103484 1910: 1GF5FCPK4ND103485 If you have not noticed, I used the letter "C" as the 6th digit (rather than "N" which would mean no HVAC at all) since apparently, on this batch of buses at least, TriMet originally ordered these with HVAC units, but had them removed prior to entering service. My new bit of information is credited to this link, and by looking at the last picture, which shows the inside of bus no. 1762 and the one label reminding us about something that isn't even there: http://trimetrider.blogspot.com/2011/12/that-other-trimet-geek-activists.html ~Ben- 1 reply

Until 2002, all of the D40LFs bound for Portland, OR (TriMet ordered its first D40LFs -- units 2001 to 2022 -- in 1996, to be delivered in the fall of 1997) were assembled in Crookston, MN. During 2002, this code letter's description was changed to signify final assembly at the St. Cloud, MN assembly plant, and so units 2601-2655 (fall 2002 delivery) and 2701-2725 (spring 2003 delivery) might have been built at both Crookston and St. Cloud respectively, although I'd suggest 2701-2725, being slightly later deliveries in the 2003 fiscal year, would definitely have been assembled in St. Cloud. New Flyer then changed its U.S. plant code again, this time providing separate code letters for its two U.S. assembly plants in MN. Units 2801-2839, being 2005 builds, would've been made at either the St. Cloud, MN (plant code "B") or the Crookston, MN (plant code "C") assembly plants, as would the D40LFR units 2901-2940 which were 2008 builds. The first eight digits of the VIN code for TriMet's other New Flyer builds (please correct me if necessary): 1FYD2LK0 for units 2001-2022 (1997) 5FYD2LP0 for units 2201-2258 (1998) and 2259-2318 (1999) 5FYH2LR0 for units 2561-2562 (2001) 5FYD2LU0 for units 2601-2655 (2002) and 2701-2725 (2003) 5FYD4FV0 for units 2801-2839 (2005) and 2901-2940 (2008) ~Ben

http://www.cptdb.ca/...trict_of_Oregon I've noticed some errors in this Wiki page. You mention that both fleets 576-600 (1971 GMC T8H5305A) and 601-650 (1971 Flxible 111DD-D5-1) were once Rose City Transit buses (along with units 501-575), but the problem with that is: Rose City Transit officially became TriMet on December 1, 1969. That means these two fleets of buses, both of which were delivered in 1971, were TriMet's first buses as TriMet. Buses 576-600 (the GMC New Looks) were the very first buses purchased after Rose City Transit had become TriMet, as replacements for all the acquired buses from the "Blue Bus" collective of suburban bus companies. The last new buses to be delivered to TriMet when as RCT, were the 1966 GMC New Looks (ID's #556-575). To get things straightened up on this: Buses 556-575 (the 1966 GMC TDH4519 fishbowls) were the last buses purchased by Rose City Transit, before the name change to TriMet. The name TriMet (a short form of Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon) was adopted December 1, 1969. All of the Rose City Transit buses and routes were acquired by TriMet in 1969. Buses 576-600 (the 1971 GMC T8H5305A fishbowls) were the first new buses purchased by the TriMet that we know today. I also want to add a year of retirement section here. All of the remaining ex-RCT buses were withdrawn from the TriMet fleet on September 27, 1985. TriMet's first buses as TriMet (the 1971 GMC T8H5305As) were withdrawn from the fleet on June 15, 1986. The first AM General buses, units 1000-1099, were withdrawn from the fleet when the first Flxible Metros for TriMet had arrived in June 1988. The remainder were pulled by 1990, when the Gillig Phantom 1400 series came in that fall, which also put the 100 series buses (the 1974 Flxible New Looks) out to pasture, along with the former 800 series (180-199) 1973 GMC fishbowls. The first of the 300 series Flxible New Looks were withdrawn in 1992 after the 1700 series Flxible Metros showed up; the remainder of these were gone in 1998-99, after the second batch of New Flyer LFs (Cummins ISC engine and Voith D863.3 transmission) showed up. The 1700 series (and the 1817 series, from 1994) also replaced the remainder of the GMC 800/180 series. The rejected Lane Transit District 1980 GMDD fishbowls, units 200-210, were withdrawn in 1994. The remaining 1981 Crown/Ikarus articulated buses, units 700-786, were withdrawn from the fleet in March 1999; the first of these were pulled just two years earlier (in 1997). All ten of the LNG-fueled buses, units 1464-1465 (1992 Gillig Phantom) and 1809-1816 (1993 Flxible Metro "D"), were withdrawn from the fleet at the end of 2000. The remaining 1982 GMC RTS II buses, units 900-974, were withdrawn from the fleet in 2001. Five were initially withdrawn by 1999. The remaining 1988-89 Flxible Metro "B" buses, units 500-549 ('88) and 550-637 ('89), were withdrawn from the fleet by 2006. I remember riding one of those for the last time in August 2005. The ten 1994 Flxible Metro "D" buses with the Detroit Diesel Series 50 engine, units 1844-1853, were pulled from the fleet in 2009 due to budget cuts. The two 2001 New Flyer hybrid LF buses, units 2561-2562, were withdrawn from the fleet this May. ~Ben

I have a few changes I'd like to contribute to the TriMet Wiki page here at the CPTDB. I am hoping you all can verify such changes that I intend to add. Before the Voith DIWA.3 series, there was the DIWA.2 series. Thus, all the Flxible Metro buses (excepting 1844-1853, which use the Allison VR731RH transmission) and the 1400 and 1600 series Gillig Phantoms would use the D863.2 transmission (on the Flxibles they are V-drive, and so are technically called "D863.2-W7"; while the normal D863.2 designation without any additional major suffix would be for T-drive applications; thus, an internal designation for the normal T-drive D863.2 is "D863.2T," as Dave Stubblefield refers to it on his old website). The folks at TriMet's mechanical department confirmed to me that the DIWA generation used on all pre-1997 buses was of the DIWA.2 version. Without further ado: 500-549 (II) - 1988 Flxible Metro "B" 40102-6C with Cummins L10 (270 hp) and Voith D863.2-W7 550-637 (II) - 1989 Flxible Metro "B" 40102-6C with Cummins L10 (270 hp) and Voith D863.2-W7 1401-1463 - 1990 Gillig Phantom 40/102TB/L10 with Cummins L10 (270 hp) and Voith D863.2 1601-1630 - 1990 Gillig Phantom 30/102TB/L10 with Cummins L10 (240 hp) and Voith D863.2 1631-1643 - 1991 Gillig Phantom 30/102TB/L10 with Cummins L10 (240 hp) and Voith D863.2 1701-1808 - 1992 Flxible Metro "C" 40102-6C with Cummins L10E CELECT (280 hp) and Voith D863.2-W7 1901-1910 - 1992 Flxible Metro "C" 30102-6C with Cummins L10E CELECT (280 hp) and Voith D863.2-W7 1464-1465 - 1992 Gillig Phantom 40/102TB/L10 (LNG) with Cummins L10G (Phase II?)
