I take the Metro 94 express every weekday to and from my workplace in downtown Saint Paul, and several times I've seen a mysterious Gillig low floor 40 footer driving on I94, painted light blue and gray with no markings or identification other than the number 1258. Unfortunately I don't have a photo. Recently I also witnessed this bus unloading passengers-they appeared to be high school or college students-in downtown Minneapolis. Anyone have any info on this bus? I'll try and get a photo next time I see it.

The U of MN Parking and Transportation Services department recently redesigned the campus shuttle network. In addition to adding some service and changing routing for the existing lines, their contractor First Transit has also apparently added some new units. There is now another 30' LF/BRT Hybrid, I'm guessing it replaced one of the cutaways. Additionally some secondhand D40LF were added. I saw units 3333 and 4438. I have no idea where they're from. Both have flip dot destination signs and I believe ISC or ISL engines. I'll try to ride one the next time I get the chance to transitfan. Of course the Van Hool AG300 artics, A300L, and Gillig 40' Hybrid units are still the backbone of the Campus Shuttle fleet. I haven't seen either of the 2002 Gillig LF, 624 or 625 recently. If they aren't still spares for the PTS fleet then I'm guessing they were transferred to the DELTA Airlines/MSP campus fleet. I see former U of MN shuttles 622 or 623 on the runway shuttles at the airport constantly.

I was in Winona, MN yesterday for a short period to do a bit of sightseeing. Winona has a four route bus system called Winona Transit Service. All of their buses are cutaways, and they operate 7 in total. All are medium duty GMC/Chevy C5500 chassis with ElDorado Areo Elite or Glaval Titan bodies from what I saw. WTS bus stop sign and transfer point shelter: In addition to Winona Transit Service routes, there are also two Winona State University Shuttle loops that operate during Fall and Spring semesters. One was being operated by a Winona Transit bus. The other had a Gillig Phantom which I believe is owned and operated by WSU. I'm not sure where the Phantom is from, it looks like an ex-rental car shuttle unit though, or possibly ex-Cambus, since it has wide rear doors. It has a faded out 42 on the rear, although it doesn't seem to have any fleet number assigned currently. Additionally WSU did have a Flxible Metro of some type before. You can see it in this Winona Daily News photo when it was involved in an accident. I do not know if it's still active or not. In the future when the Phantom needs replacement I'm sure they will find another large bus to run. The loop it was operating had very heavy ridership, with 25-35 riders getting on and off at the stop by where I took the photos.
