New Flyer was the only bidder. Buses will be delivered between mid-2016 and early 2017 The proposed contract also includes options for 200 additional buses (100 hybrid and 100 CNG) that could be exercised for up to five years from the awarding of contract through 2020. Exercising this option would allow for replacement of any remaining NABI buses and most of the 40-foot Neoplan diesel fleet between 2018-2020. This is a low-bid procurement; the lowest qualified bid which meets the specifications will be awarded the contract. Once an order is placed, deliveries would be expected in 2016/2017. The award was approved by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation board of directors in Boston and includes a firm order for 175 compressed natural gas buses (XN40) and 150 diesel-electric hybrid buses (XDE40), plus options for an additional 200 clean diesel buses (XD40) and 200 diesel-electric hybrid buses (XDE40) over the next five years.
