  2. While we all know for certain that every Gillig Phantom that Pullman Transit had ordered since 1991 came with the Voith D863 transmission, I am not sure if the same logic applied to the very first ones dating between 1985 and 1987 (units 93 to 98). Could any Pullman Transit experts please clue me in on these first six Phantoms? Complete list of Phantoms: 1985: 96-98 (model 35TB/96/6V92, DD 6V92TA MUI engine) 1986: 95 (model 35/96TB/6V92, DD 6V92TA MUI engine) 1987: 93-94 (model 35/96TB/6V92, DD 6V92TA MUI or DDEC engine) 1991: 92 (model 35/96TB/6V92TA, DD 6V92TA DDEC II engine) 1992:
  3. Please let me know whether or not these TriMet Gillig Phantom VINs are correct. They are simpler (at least) to figure out than the Flxible Metro VIN codes. 1990 GILLIG PHANTOM 40102TBL10 (VEHICLE #s 1401-1463) (delivered 9-10/1990) (Cummins LTA10-270B engine / Voith D863.2 transmission) 1401: 15GCD1214L1083713 1402: 15GCD1216L1083714 1403: 15GCD1218L1083715 1404: 15GCD121XL1083716 1405: 15GCD1211L1083717 1406: 15GCD1213L1083718 1407: 15GCD1215L1083719 1408: 15GCD1211L1083720 1409: 15GCD1213L1083721 1410: 15GCD1215L1083722 1411: 15GCD1217L1083723 1412: 15GCD1219L1083724 1413: 15G
  4. Would anyone happen to know the exact VIN numbers for the Santa Barbara MTD Gillig Phantoms built in 1981 (units 242-256) and 1984 (units 257-276)? Units 242-256 are 1981 model 35/96T/6V92s while 257-276 are 1984 model 40TB/96/6V92s. ~Ben
  5. Were there any Orion I's produced from 1982 to 1986 (when specified with the Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine and the Allison MT644, HT740 or HT747 transmission) that sounded closer to a Gillig Phantom built in those same years mentioned? They can be of any length (30' for 01.502 or 01.503, 35' for 01.506 or 01.507, and 40' for 01.508 or 01.509). ~Ben
  6. Is there anyone out there who tried to use an 8V71N or 8V92TA engine in place of the 6V92TA in a 1981-1986 Gillig Phantom? The reason I'm asking this is because I know there actually were a few MCI MC-9 motorcoaches that used the 6V92TA engine originally and then later an 8V71N or 8V92TA is used as a replacement engine in those same coach(es). But what I want to know is if anyone tried to do the same thing in a Gillig Phantom. And if anyone has done this, I'd like to know whether or not such a wet dream as this has been successful. ~Ben

  10. Would anyone happen to know all about the VIN system Gillig used for its buses since September 1, 1980? 11. I hope the Administrator doesn't mind, but I am creating this thread for the purpose of anyone in the Portland, OR area who might have pictures of any of TriMet's 1990-91 Gillig Phantoms (1401-1463, 1601-1630 and 1631-1643) and 1992 Flxible Metros (1701-1808, 1901-1910) that are retired or are going to be over the course of the next five years. If you see one of these retired at any one of TriMet's three bus garages (Center, Powell or Merlo), on a flatbed truck or outside of TriMet premises (livery removed), please post your spottings here. Legend: BLUE - retired BLACK - active 1990 GILLI
