  1. Should clarify (not clarified in article opening) that the service disruption is across the entirety of the Expo Line and not just in downtown, due to systemwide reduction in headway. It looks like there will be a reduction of 2 trains per hour on each branch, with mainline service at 16 trains per hour (down from 20) which should come out to every 3.75 min, although the article nitty gritty says to expect 5 minutes between trains on the mainline.
  2. From Toronto subway vibes to somewhat more like a JR/Japan Rail vibe
  3. The transfer of several R1 trips out to PCTC would suggest that the 503 will continue to be served by STC artics alongside 323.
  4. Definitely. Did a roundtrip yesterday (Sunday) and it is largely 6-cars on the line and saw only two 4-car sets (one of which was in the Scott Road pocket track rather than in service), not sure what happens in peak times but off-peak capacity seems largely normalized.
  5. Last I checked there were a couple of 4-car consists with most having been restored to 6-car (after an earlier shortage), but am not aware in case it has changed again recently.
  6. I'm curious what will be the negative effect on the 28's on-time performance. While the Laurel route certainly wasn't anything like an exclusive bus lane, it did allow the bus to avoid the busy, single-lane left turn from Boundary SB onto Canada Way, which I think is why it was used in the first place. I'm not there often so don't know how busy it is (or if/how trafic volumes have changed between 2019 and now) but against a seldom-used road and left-turn (protected by a criss-cross box junction!), I can't see this as positive for travel times and OTP. If the left turn had a new exclusive bus lane then I would say differently, but for now, it appears that buses will have to fall in line and I imagine that it will always take 2-3 signal cycles (or more) to make the turn.
  7. Tcomm might still be down for upgrades, this is also affecting real-time schedule displays at RapidBus stops and some park and rides (buses appear bunched when they are not)
  8. I've been trying to submit feedback on this but the website form keeps giving me errors I don't mind a few trains being switched to smaller 4-cars as long as most Mark I service is still provided by 6-car trains as is the case now. But if what we had on Friday of "all" of the Mark Is being switched to 4-car is true, then that's an actual cut in service that needs to be communicated to riders through Alerts at minimum.
  9. Mark Is seem to be slowly returning to 6-car consists as of yesterday. I caught one in the eastbound direction yesterday evening around 7:00PM and the need for 6-car capacity became evident when train reached Columbia and immediately became full after loading the whole platform.
  10. Anything that would speed up/improve reliability on 100 would be pretty good right now given the recent service cuts (including periods outside of when 80 operates) and the incessant construction delays on Marine Drive... the removal of the duplicate Fraser Street stops (EB at Prince Albert, and WB at Fraser far-side in favour of boarding at Chester/near-side) and the relocation of WB Prince Edward to far-side have already resulted in noticeable improvements. I know that riders down here are anxious for some real improvements. Every time they put the artics on the route last summer, there was a person raving about them and talking to the driver about how happy they were to ride the artics.
  11. I suggested that one awhile back It's basically used as Victoria near-side by most people. The Argyle stop serves most of the single-family homes south of SE Marine just the same, and the furthest house around Beatrice and E Kent Ave N will need to add only around 130m walk to the Victoria stop.
  12. I think that's a typo, I specifically remember that the route that had its jurisdiction transferred was 257
  13. I know that this site was expected to be the new location of the bus exchange (even before SNG LRT; and then when that came along, it was to be the SNG terminus station), but I guess TL has decided that stops and passenger exchange will be mostly kept to the current location. I am curious though if there will be any new turn-offs from KGB into and out of the layover facility, and ability to run through. If in-service buses could go through the area and onto KGB (such as R1 leaving Newton Exch going north, or 321/394 going south) seems like it'd save time over current exit routes.
  14. I think the incident at Gateway and the shuttle ops caused some major brouhaha with the destination signs lasting the day ? In the evening at around 8PM, I was at Main Street and there were Waterfront-bound trains to King George, King George bound trains to Production Way, Production Way bound trains to Waterfront, a Commercial-Broadway train heading inbound from Main. Every single train had an incorrect display, with only the platform LED boards displaying the correct destination. Inside the train, the destination LED maps were stuck (some flashing on Scott Road), and announcements were not playing. I was on a train that had no announcements until they suddenly began working at Royal Oak.
  15. Wait, are we meaning to say that the SB lanes (or 1/2 lanes) will be closed indefinitely? I haven't seen this announced everywhere. The spillover delays onto routes like 100 Marine Drive are going to be massive ? Where is the news? Today's brouhaha resulted in probably about 20 cancelled run notices going into my text messages, tripled runtimes, and massive crowds of passed up passengers at even minor stops along the corridor.
  16. I was curious when I saw an RB terminate at Scottsdale earlier this evening, signed not in service. Which route did it come from? I didn't know they had a platoon of RBs presumably to test compatibility for each of the routes.
  17. OK now I'm very curious about this ? The planning and consultation docs indicated that R6 would stop at a location that is west of 128 St, but clearly east of 126 St. I was very satisfied with this and I imagine so were people at KPU and the KSA. I also imagined that the two existing stops would be consolidated and that 319 and 301 would also stop there. Perhaps the new crossing and bus stop infra will not be ready in time for R6 launch?
  18. If the travel time on the first 3 legs exceeds 90 mins then keep in mind you will be paying two fares for the trip, and thus more than paying to go 3 zones on the train!
  19. Probably the most artics I've seen on 100 today with three 18000s on Tcomm showing. I also spotted 19001 out on a 100 via Trapp earlier, but it appears to have been taken out of service (possible mechanical issues per SMS alerts)
  20. They're still reducing service due to COVID? AFAIK most of the system is in a back to normal state with funding support and that this doesn't necessarily affect bus type (there are many PoCo artics that could be put into service). What I'm told is that the weekend runs on standard buses have tended to be packed at most times of day and that it's interfering with SFU Clubs' ability to host weekend events, and with UniverCity people trying to get out and about.
  21. A number of people I know at SFU are telling me that the 145 has tended to get standard buses rather than 60ft on weekends (and as a result, they tend to be completely jam packed as the standards just don't have the capacity. I looked just now and they even have a C40LFR on the route (I thought those buses hate hills!) while all the D60LFRs are out except 2 being run on the 150. Anyone have any context on this???
  22. 19009 is now on the 155 (the 155!?!?) and scheduled to do 418s later today wow EDIT: 15003, 15007, 15009 and 15010 on the 503 Aldergrove today (Aldergrove going all-in on artics!) 18017 on 106 A few VTC 21000s have been on either 10 or 3 sporadically for several days now. I thought it had to do with Marine construction, but I guess it may just come down to bus availability. There's also been one doing the R4 lately.
  23. This is definitely the case. The adjacent new additional lights and crosswalk will lead directly to the KG Station exit, which as been long planned and is being built now along with the new development on the west side of KGB. The existing stop location a bit further back will presumably be converted for the 503, and I imagine bay 5 will be used for local buses (314/321/326/329).
  24. I have to wonder if the 340 pulling back on use of deckers is ridership related. In practice the 340 is only the best route for a small number of residents in low density south North Delta, Kwantlen U students avoiding Scott Road congestion, Queensborough commuters, and Annacis Island commuters. Everyone else has alternatives and may be better served by them: 319, 301 (which has been incredibly popular and the decker capacity is always well used), or even 310-351 at times when 311 isn't running. The 310 shift to standard buses has also been well used, with almost all runs exceeding the capacity of the old shuttles, and many people making use of the connection to 351 at Matthews. I imagine it is providing some relief for the 340, with enough riders switching that the 340 can make do with standard buses, allowing deckers to be more consistently used on 301 and 351. I've also seen full 310 buses during peak hours going eastbound at Matthews, full enough that I'd be willing to wait for the next 311.
