  1. Ride video of 3401 on line 152. These are the buses replacing the 1600s and 1900s! ~Ben
  2. Nolan, Here's two more: 5100 and 5101. Both 1981s like 5245-5256. 5100: 1TUBBT586BR000571 5101: 1TUBBT588BR000572 ~Ben
  3. Does anyone have any information regarding the Renk-Doromat 874 series transmissions that were used, among other applications, in the MAN articulated buses? Stuff relating to specifications as gear ratios and input power/torque. Thank you! Models in this series included the 873 (3-speed direct-drive) and the 874 (overdrive in 4th). The model 874 was updated twice (to 874A and 874B). The only non-MAN bus applications I can think of, here in the U.S., are the 10 Orion I model 01.507 buses (units 501-510, built 1986) ordered by Intercity Transit of Olympia, WA. Orion cataloged that transmission alongside the Voith and ZF (and the more common Allison units) through 1989 or 1990. Again, I am unsure if any other non-MAN-related bus builders (at least here) ever cataloged it. Someone here used to say Gillig offered it too but that rumor was debunked in regard to the Golden Gate Transit 30-foot Phantoms (those instead had Voith transmissions). ~Ben
  4. This will be a tough question to answer, and here it goes: were there any Orion I's built in 1984 and 1985 that used the Voith D863 transmission behind the Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine (a la AC Transit's 1984 Gillig Phantoms numbered 1469 to 1483)? They can be model 01.502 (30 ft), 01.507 (35 ft) or 01.508 (40 ft). ~Ben
  5. Jared, Right now on line 34 there is bus 3404 working it. . . ~Ben
  6. http://news.trimet.org/2015/03/trimet-extends-line-8-to-ne-dekum-ave-and-mlk-jr-blvd-adding-three-new-stops/ Looks like the line 8 layover issues are solved for the moment. . . its new layover is at a spot close to where buses on line 6 had laid over back in the mid to late 1980s. ~Ben
  7. Jared, Any idea when these might appear on line 34-River Road? ~Ben
  8. Puget Sound Rider, Like Jared said, yes. All three of these 1990-92 fleets are old. ~Ben
  9. Say hello to the 3400s if you're riding on lines 39, 51 or 152! http://news.trimet.org/2015/03/new-30-foot-trimet-buses-are-now-in-service-in-areas-with-tighter-turns-and-terrain/ You know what that means? Please hurry on down here to the City of Roses if you really want to ride a 1600 series Gillig Phantom for the last time! ~Ben
  10. TriMet scrapped the remainder of their 40-foot Flxible Metros (1701-1808) in July 2014. Only the remainder of the 1900 series (the 30 foot ones) remain. ~Ben
  11. T-drive versions had the 6V71 or 8V71 engine mated with a Spicer 184 "Turbomatic" 2-speed automatic. Otherwise, if V-drive, it's either the 183 "Turbomatic" or the Allison VH or VS series (V730 in 1976) behind those engines. ~Ben
  12. Tri-Met has retired three 1997 Gillig Phantoms right now: 2122, 2134 and 2159. These are the three being auctioned, along with a 1997 New Flyer D40LF unit 2002. Go here: https://barnoneauction.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=90531&p=4&sort=0#cnTb ~Ben
  13. Most likely not anymore due to age. Somebody else closer to the agency would know. ~Ben
  14. It was 2012 when Orion Bus went bust.
  15. No, they also have some Gillig (and some 40' NovaBus LFS) low-floors. Previous to all that they had some 1984 Phantoms with the 6V92TA, like this one: ~Ben
  16. I can't really say. Sarnia's 813 did, but I think it was out along with the three ex-DFW units. Burlington Transit may still have their 1981 01.504 7042-81 (8142), which is this one:
  17. With the 6V53? No. And the three Dallas-Fort Worth Airport transplants with the 6V92TA engine were all scrapped due to age-related corroded frames.
  18. As retrofits, yes; but I am unaware of any that used this engine from day 1. ~Ben
  19. I do have a 1981 TMC CityCruiser T30 brochure and it catalogs the 6V53T. I did find reference to a Cat 3208T in a 1989 edition of the Orion I brochure (printed June 1988), which is how this topic originally started. ~Ben
  20. TriMet told me today the first 3400s (the 29-foot Gillig Advantage LFs) are to show up during this March. They will replace the 1600s and 1900s, so try to get your rides on the last remaining units while you still can (especially the 1900s). ~Ben
  21. No, not much. There are indeed, however, some HT740 series transmissions that are tuned to have second-gear start, which is why you hear what you describe on that Phantom schoolie. This 1986 01.508 operated by YRT (6V92TA MUI engine) also has its HT747 with the second gear start: ~Ben
  22. Flxible first used these two in 1967 when they built their first V-drive buses (Erie Metro Transit being the first taker); GMC around 1966. The VH9 was an evolution of the VH2/4/5/7 which was used in the GMC New Looks between 1960-1966. The "Super V" VS1-8, VS2-6 and VS2-8 showed up around 1966-67. ~Ben
  23. They were the usual DD 6V92TA DDEC / Allison HT748 ATEC. ~Ben
