The first bus east bound was 572 as I got on at the Vollmer center and rode to St.Clair College and back and the first west bound was 574 as I got photos of both buses at the Vollmer Center. At 11 am the east bound bus stops and its driver takes over the west bound bus at 11.19 am for this driver take its lunch break at the Vollmer Center. At this time at the Vollmer Center is a good spot for photos as the west bound bus has a 5 minutes layover for changing of the drivers.

The Classic's have been retired since last November because of the cost to repair them, just wasn't worth repairing them. They have sat at the east side of the garage since then. They will two of the buses replace when the 24 new Nova's come this fall.

  6. Sorry that should be Sept. 2004 not 1994,
  7. 1102 did have a lift, as it was new to the State of Michigan and leased to GLI as #MI-0036, then in Sept. 1994 it was purchased by GLI and #1102, 1102 was one of five D3's that where State buses and sold to GLI. I do have all the VIN's for Greyhound Canada, I can send you all those VINs by mail if you want, send me your address, will include all the U.S. coaches that came to Canada. I spent alot of time at the GLOC garage here both checking the builder plates and getting photos.
  8. Vin 1M8PDMPA81P054083 was #1166, as for the 102D3'S that came from the U.S. they did not have lifts as that is why they where sent to Canada, like all the 102DL3's that came to Canada they didn't have lifts either.

You are correct it is there, unfortunately they aren't doing much with as it is parked outside near the old train station so it can rust away like all the other buses they have had.. You can see it from the highway.
  12. In look at Bill Luke book on Buses of Western Flyer & New Flyer with the head light arrangement it most likely is a P-39, as the P37/41 head lights and fog lights are the same size. Where you able to get a side view as that would show more details.

The two classics can be used all most anywhere on the system, but for the summer they are more likely at the garage since there are no school extras now.

Both 530 and 535 were in service this afternoon, both of these buses were to be retired when the Novas went into service, leaving 521 & 523 to remain.

The new Nova's are not in service yet as they still need licence plates & fare boxes, only six of the Nova's have been delivered. What was seen one of the Nova's being road tested and it had dealer plates. Only two Classic will be retired being 532 & 535, 521 & 523 will remain in service.

It can't keep oil in it, as it leaks oil & smokes badly, during the day transit would have to add a lot of oil just to keep it on the road. Four of the new Nova's are in, #570, 572,573 & 574, they sure look good, they have places for two wheel chairs plus two baby strollers spots.

The fleet is staying at 112 buses, some of the buses that were to be retired have already been pulled from service like 554 when they have a major problem.

the only buses to be retire are the last high floor buses which number four buses, but would not be surprise that they might be around a little longer this year.
  21. 1900 - 1920 are D40LF's, #1920 was checked last August and its vin was 5FYD2LN051U022981 ex COTA #2162 you could make out the former fleet number. Also TARTA has ex COTA #2102 & 2107 I have photos of both of these buses in service in COTA paint in September 2015. Also have a photo of #2159 a D35LF vin 5FYD2GP051U023407 still in Dayton paint and number, the D35LF came from Butler County who got them from Dayton before going to TARTA.
  22. These buses where needed when in later July 2015 TARTA found out they were going to handle the charter schools busing. I was told TARTA picked up 44 buses with some of them to be used for parts. These buses are used for about a hour to a hour & half in the morning and again in the afternoon. In Sept. when I was there a good number of the D40LF's had been repainted into TARTA paint, only saw one LFS in TARTA paint most were still in Cleveland RTA paint with their name removed. I was at the garage at 2pm when the afternoon buses were coming out of the garage and managed to get photos of a number of them. The D40LF's that were repainted into TARTA paint sure looked good, in fact better then some of TARTA bus used in regular service.

They have a fleet of 112 buses and only need 82 buses to handle the days service even in rush hour.

Update on 701 & 702 one of the mechanic's was able to fix the wiring issues on both and are now waiting for a safety inspection. There are only four Classics still in service 521, 523, 532 & 535, 554 was retired Nov. 10/15 had a major oil problem not worth fixing. Number 557 is now in paint shop for new paint. TW will shortly be servicing and storing one to two Greyhound buses a day by the end of Nov., Greyhound is closing its garage here.
