The Sandman Airport is a nice property. Had a chance to tour the place a few years ago. If your room is facing west, then you'll see Orion 5s & D60LFs coming off the freeway. If the room is facing north, you'll see routes #407 & #430 (D40LFs & some former C40LFs)

Yes, TRAMS is willing to buy a BBC plate for #132, if anyone has one for sale. In the meantime, we're just using a GMC plate.

I can send you an updated TransLink map as they're free this year. The schedules are going to be pricey to mail because of the weight. Best thing to do is pick them up when you get here.

Wow! That's almost as long as the Vancouver transit strike in 1984.

You're welcome Bob!

I've been sorting through my Flickr photos. They date back to June, 2005. Never had a chance to ride the Orion 5s, but rode quite a few Fishbowls & LFS's: GM New Looks http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyer_901/2156702498 http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyer_901/2156702228 GM/MCI Classics http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyer_901/2156701880 http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyer_901/5461424203 Nova Bus LFS http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyer_901/2156702764

A belated welcome aboard from Vancouver!

If you're staying in Richmond, you'll see plenty of 1995/96 D40LFs. Steveston Village is a nice touristy area, but also a favourite amongst the locals. Take 401, 402, 407, or 410 to the last stop. The Radisson President Hotel is just across the street from Aberdeen Stn. You're surrounded by Asian themed malls. So the location is really convenient. There's also the River Rock Hotel & Casino attached to Bridgeport Stn. If you want something fancy, there's the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel that's attached to main terminal building & YVR Airport Stn. On the Vancouver end the Hotel Indigo (formerly Plaza 500) is only a couple blocks away from Broadway-City Hall Stn.

Drum roll... here are some photos of TransLink 2242's (aka Vanna) visit to Seattle. These were taken by a drooling Metro driver from Atlantic Base http://www.flickr.com/photos/thelebers/set...157625554558306

Thanks for the heads up! "...like dangling meat in front of sharks". Love that quote! If you do get some pics, PLEASE post. I'm also on the Seattle Transit Blog.

Thanks for sharing! It's quite rare that I get to see Saint John transit pics. Nice artic & I like the variety in your fleet.

When you're in Vancouver and you're up for a quick getaway from the big city, head to Bowen Island. From downtown take 250 Horseshoe Bay or 257 Horseshoe Bay Express to the last stop. Buy a ticket for Snug Cove at the BC Ferries ticket booth. It's a 20 min ferry ride. At Snug Cove village, walk towards the public library where you'll see a TransLink bus stop. Hop on the C10 Bluewater. Stop in Artisan Square for lunch. Beautiful views from up there and you won't believe that you're still in the Metro Vancouver area! Hop on the C10 Snug Cove to return to the village & ferry terminal. If you'd like to explore some of the local neighbourhoods & eateries by public transit, here are some suggestions: Commercial Drive - 9 (trolley bus), 99, 20 (trolley bus), Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain Stn South of Main - 3 (trolley bus), 25 Punjabi Market - 3 (trolley bus), 49 Mount Pleasant - 3 (trolley bus), 8 (trolley bus), 9 (trolley bus), 99 South Hill - 8 (trolley bus), 41, 49 Victoria Drive - 20 (trolley bus), 49, 430 South Cambie - 15, 33, 25, King Edward SkyTrain Stn Marpole - 10 (trolley bus), 16 (trolley bus), 100, 480 Kerrisdale - 16 (trolley bus), 41, 43, 480 South Granville Rise - 9 (trolley bus), 10(trolley bus), 16 (trolley bus), 99 Kitsilano - 4 (trolley bus), 7 (trolley bus), 9 (trolley bus), 17 (trolley bus), 44, 84 Marine Drive (West Vancouver) - 250, 251, 252, 253 Uptown (New Westminster) - 106, 154, 155 Steveston Village (Richmond) - 401, 402, 407, 410

Can't seem to find any postings on this thread either, but I heard a rumour from a couple of friends that a Vancouver New Flyer E40LR is going to Seattle for a demonstration next month. Has anyone else heard anything about this or am I hearing things??

Great shots! Well... not exactly nice seeing squashed buses. Nice! I see this bus on my way to work every day. I've been told that V3122 has been spared from the scrapper and will eventually be used as a parking lot shuttle. Which parking lot? I'm not sure. Rob -
Yay!! The BBC is finally here! On the Canada Day long weekend, I heard rumours that it was being prepped for its journey to Vancouver. Thanks for all the shots, Citaro! Great work! If anyone is wondering why TRAMS is adding an ETS bus to the collection... well, it goes back to 1980 when Vancouver & Edmonton were going to do a joint trolley bus purchase. Things didn't quite work out so Edmonton went their own way and ended up with the BBCs, while Vancouver ended up with the Flyers. BBC had made a bid on the Vancouver tender. And if it had won the bid, the Flyer E900 series probably wouldn't have existed. Another retired Flyer trolley somehow ended up on Craigslist and was bought by someone. We're not sure if the new owners plan on converting the trolley into a motorhome, but if they are, we'll try to buy some parts and hope that we'll be able to bring 2805 back to life again. If not... it's a long way to Mendoza, Argentina!

I've ridden on a few C92's that were D40 high floors & more recently D40LFs. They haven't been running the big buses during the summer months, but in the winter & spring, there are a few trips during the morning peak. Quite a few students attending BCIT's Aerospace Tech campus. Other than rush hour, the C92 is pretty quiet. On the last run of the day, I'm usually the only passenger on board.

I've been looking back at Metro Vancouver transit history and it looks like a lot of plans fell through due to cost, engineering issues, politics, etc. When the first trolley bus route was proposed for 1947-48, Cambie was supposed to be paired up with MacDonald and not Fraser. Why? The Burrard Street Bridge doesn't support traction poles for trolleys. In the early 50s there were plans to electrify the Terminal Ave (1st Ave) & Rupert bus routes. Just trying to imagine a present day #27 as a trolley. Fast forward 20 years later, the provincial government was trying to step up plans to phase out some of the trolley routes... until they got voted out of office. Not sure where I read it, but there was some kind of plan to use Flyer D700s to dieselize several ETB routes in the 1970s. By 1980, there were new proposals to extend trolley wires on routes #8/#19 to Nelson & Kingsway (currently Metrotown), #9 to Brentwood, & #14/#34 to north Burnaby. That probably explains why the Flyer E900s came with destination signs for "Broadway to Brentwood", "Kingsway to Burnaby South", "Hastings Express to Capitol Hill", "Hastings Express to Duthie". Shortly after Expo 86, I remember reading in the Buzzer about potential new trolley route pairings. #21 Arbutus/Broadway Stn/Victoria, #14 Granville/Hastings, #16 Arbutus/29th Ave Stn. There were frequency issues on the Arbutus/Victoria pairing, so that didn't really work out. And what happened to the SuperTrolleys (New Flyer E60s) we were supposed to get in 1991-92 for Broadway??? All we got were the SuperBuses (D60s) for Barnet Hwy corridor. Fast forward to 2005, there were a couple more trolley route proposals that didn't go through. It was the Robson/Davie/Central Broadway circuit. I don't know exactly what happened, but when I asked one of my transit planners friends, his response was... Don't ask! Apparently a lady had heard about the cancelled route proposal, so she started posting up notices to contact this transit planner about the "new West End-Broadway route".

On my way to a wheelchair curling event on Sunday, I spotted some Thomas SLFs belonging to Lewis Stages. At first I thought they were Edison Transportation buses, but I noticed Utah license plates instead of ones from California. http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyer_901/4434633662 http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyer_901/4433858345 -
A few years ago, I made a bid on priceline.com and got the Marriott Harbourfront for $60 USD a night. Great deal, nice hotel, loved the location!
