  1. TCJC is to go through a renumbering of its network in the next month. That renumbering is to look like RTC's scheme, as each "axis" or large area is given its own decade : Western Jacques-Cartier (Sainte-Catherine, Fossambault, Shannon and Valcartier CFB) receives 10-19, with actual routes 1A, 1B and 1 Métropolitain renumbered 11, 12 and 13; Northern Jacques-Cartier (Stoneham and Lac-Delage) receives 20-29, with actual routes 2, 3 and 2/3 Métropolitain renumbered 21, 22 and 23; Eastern Jacques-Cartier (Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval) receives 40-49, with actual routes 4 and 4 Métropolitain renumbered 41 and 42; Centralish Jacques-Cartier (Lac-Beauport and Valcartier Village) receives 50-69, with actual route 5 renumbered 51 and two new routes (Valcartier/Loretteville/Zoo and Lac-Beauport/Québec express) being numbered 52 and 60. Most of the routes will have their schedule scrambled out. Route 13 service will be cut back to Val-Bélair (no more expressway service). The network looks like this until the change take place in February. So that makes a total of 11 routes, while the operator counted 2 back in 2010. There has been no rise of fares since then. Subcontractors will henceforth operate on every route wifi-equipped 44-seaters (TCJC did not reveal the model, but will possibly be served by an enlarged fleet of C2s or Inters) instead of minibuses on the lesser-ridership routes.
  2. This 1.4 B$ thing comes from a study covering a period from 1998 to 2003. And congestion costs grew by 65% solely in that period. I am positive it's much more than that today. It is quite late to still discuss about decent and permanent high-capacity passenger transit link along that corridor ; that should have been done way before now. "The next decade or two" will be the growth of the 3rd and 4th suburban belts, with increased car usage due to lower density. The nearer suburbs have to have high-capacity, high-speed transit in order to allow Metropolitan Montréal to move itself.
  3. The daily fare is the only one cheaper than Montréal. Speaking of which, RTC and STM concluded a very special partnership. http://www.stm.info/English/info/comm-12/a-co121212.htm
  4. The new park 'n ride @ Saint-Martin/Pie-IX is empty and so are the buses.
  5. Is Lévis still on papercards or have they switched to OPUS yet? What about Laissez-passer Métropolitain? Speaking of which, I had my RTC tickets transfered to a STM Occasionnelle disposable RF card at Berri, my old OPUS card coming to an end soon. Feels weird. Can't wait to see drivers' reaction.
  6. In the 90's (until 1999, if I recall correctly) the maps were designed by the department of cartography at Cégep Limoilou. STCUQ gave away the databsase, students and teachers made the design, the STCUQ printed them. The partnership stopped and there were no maps before RTC reintroduced them back in 2004, produced and printed by the transit authority, in a sponsorized format (Galeries de la Capitale, Stratos Pizza, etc. had ads on them). The reintroduction was due to a strong demand and a rising ridership. I really question the need to print them these days, with the easiness and practicality that birthed out of the generalzation of Internet access, plus the powerful -yet not perfect tools such as Google Maps and Trajecto. I still like papermaps, though, and collect them, but do not see any crying need outside that. The oudated 90's map was still exposed in Limouilou's freshly renovated entrance hall in 06, last time I "studied" there. __________________________ PLU-Mobile is thinking of expanding its service, adding departures and weekend service : the ridership doubled in two years. 7. Cody Simpson is not on my mind.

  8. Georgia's on my mind, that's what's on my mind.

  9. I heard that the clearance is 14 feet for the terminus and that a certain Van Hool model could make it into the TCV. Can't wait to hear more on that.
  10. This went silent, but worth mentionning : TCJC now serves RTC Terminus Les Saules, offering a transfer to the 15 RTC routes serving the western part of the city. Route 1 «Le Métropolitain» follows the late routing towards Québec (via R-369, Valcartier Base and A-573) and ends at Les Saules. Two more vehicles (routes 1A and 1B «express») travel via R-367 to serve directly Colline Parlementaire and Boulevard Laurier, both via Université Laval.
  11. Beginning April 1st, Laissez-passer Métropolitain, Québec équivalent to the TRAM, will now allow useage of PLUMobile services. (No, that's not a mobile phone carrier, it's Côte-de-Beaupré and Île-d'Orléans counties semi-coach peak service) LPMet now covers the whole Communauté Métropolitaine de Québec area, allowing boarding on RTC, STQ ferry, STLévis, TCJC and/or PLUM services for a discount price of 114,60$ (in comparison, the monthly pass for PLUM only is 100$).

Two elements untied this morning, near Pie-IX station. It was the first time that kind of accident happened ; the emergency brake did function properly. http://www.radio-canada.ca/regions/Montreal/2012/03/15/004-panne-majeure-metro.shtml
  13. Sorry, I realized a bit to late ; I voted, but not sure to attend. Depends on the state of my semester. Plus, would be in Gatineau two weekends in a row.

  18. The new terminal («Gare de Sorel») is located at 250, boulevard Poliquin, which is on the East side of Poliquin, so it is probably Transbus' new garage. EDIT : The new terminal looks like this : http://www.citsv.qc.ca/Pubdemenagementmodiftrajetsetadresse.pdf

There seems to be a pilot project of new line signs for guiding commuters at Jean-Talon station, combining the color, the number and the destination. Has anyone seen those? I've been there twice last week and did not notice.

These New Looks you are reffering to must have been for extra service, because Autobus Gaudreault, as far as I can remember, ran those Patate Henri-sponsored GM Classics (even the stop flags had this largely renown chopped-in-halves-potato-king logo) and/or Repentigny+Terrebonne garages leftovers until the 2007 G5 minibuses, which ran until the 2011 ElDorado midibuses.

I'll do my best to translate here for those who are not reading french fluently. Please be respectful for the significant and admirable work of the author and cite the source whenever you'd want to quote the book. A plausible signification for the acronym SABEM is Société des AutoBus de l'Est de Montréal, although I did not verify that. I infer that the CTCUM Repentigny-assigned vehicles were suburban New Looks based at Saint-Henri. SABEM introduced 5 to 7 1990 MCI Classics, based at the 130, rue Landreville Gaudreault garage in Repentigny, on the 3 Repentigny routes (2 local, 1 Montréal-bound). Gaudreault transfered urban routes to Lanau-Bus and SABEM was reoriented to serve school routes. Routes demultiplied and service was regionalized ; MRC L'Assomption's RTCR now offers 17 circuits covering from Lavaltrie to Lachenaie, Repentigny to Saint-Gérard-Majella northern end, 6 of them are Montréal-bound. An AMT terminus and parking was built near the Gaudreault garage, but the latter moved to a more central location for regional services at the eastern tip of Repentigny.
  24. I think the destination has been more definitive than the season to change the number. 167 has two different routes : The metro/Casino shuttle and the Île Notre-Dame/Île Saint-Hélène circuit, from the Beach to La Ronde via metro. But I agree, a 700-serie for touristic routes is indeed a good idea. You really think it's about mental disorder?.. How about having some free numbers for a network expansion? How about having a consistent, easy-to-use/easy-to-understand network, instead of patching holes when introducing a new line? Sure, the first few weeks will be confusing for used customers. But cleaning up the numbering that took place in the early XXth century is worth it. Québec City experience was cited as an example of success in the presentation of the project ; RTC has 54 eXpress/limited stops routes (numbered 100-399 and 800-804, 54 is more than twice of what STM currently operates in M-Bus/R-Bus/E-bus/T-bus routes), but still has plenty of free numbers in the 1-99 regular routes number bank. Renumberings took place twice in the CTCUQ/STCUQ/RTC history (1970, 1992) and no one got killed, injured nor developped schizophrenia. RTC even had some 400's-numbered express for Jeux Mondiaux des Policiers et Pompiers (2005), 500's-numbered express for linking shopping centres (prior to IKEA closure?) and 600's-numbered express (Express Nordiques) in the late 80's/early 90's on game nights. I totally agree. I would have liked to see 400's numbered for suburban express service (E-bus), with no-stops sections : Keep 410/489, 420/405, 430/486, 470, even 480/412, 421 or 468. Add 77 (444), 143 (440), 148 (448), 159 (469), 173 (496), 182 (486), 184 (487), 190 (491), 194 (449 rush hour service), 199 (432 rush hour service) and 221 (411). 500's numbered for urban rapid transit service (R-bus), with limited stops and/or operation on a reserved lane : Keep 505, 506, 535. Add 120 (495/595), 460/500,502, 592 or 593, 467/567, 194 (449/549 daytime service) and 199 (432/532 daytime service). 600's numbered for Trainbus services (-bus). Keep 261 (601), 265 (607), 268 (668). That also leaves place for potential Train de l'Est trainbus routes. 700's numbered for touristic services (?-bus). Keep 747, 515 (715), 167 (767/777) and 169 (769). 800's numbered for temporary emergency metro routing (M-bus). 801, 802, 804 and 805.
