  1. What if the person uses a different phone number like from a phone booth? Might just be easier to get a new phone number (unlisted)
  2. I grew up with the Littlest Hobo and The Beachcombers, so those are up there of course. SCTV and Royal Canadian Air Farce (first seasons at least) were probably some of the funniest shows on TV. I am ashamed to admit it, but I did like watching Degrassi Junior High (the original series) As far as movies go ... Strange Brew hands down. I think it should be required viewing for anyone who applies for Canadian Citizenship ... I mean, beer, hockey, donuts and bacon ... how more Canadian can you get?
  3. Heard from a reliable source today that Kelowna has 4-5 of them but are ony used as a last resort - 2 of them are leaking something fierce so they're in the yard somewheres.

    Yaxing Bus

Pictures can be very deceiving, but from the looks of it there's very little room for strollers, walkers and only one wheelchair position. The 30' Darts have very little room but those look very small on the inside. Based on the photos, theres no way they'd make a suitable replacement for us in Vernon, of course, we drivers aren't the one making the decisions ... lol
  5. I don't buy into that whole fair trade, shop local, feel goody trendy rubbish anyways so it don't matter to me either or And yes, I proudly shop at Walmart because they have what I want for a price I can afford so there ...

    Safety vests

Our mechanics have blue cover-alls with yellow striping, a vest would be too much off a safety hazard for them if it got caught in something. As for drivers, Handydart drivers have to wear them at all times since they constantly get in and out of the vehicle in traffic. Us conventional drivers only have to wear them when we're outside of the bus in the yard or in traffic, wearing them inside the bus (although some drivers do) gives too much of a glare in the windshield when its sunny out or at night with oncoming headlights. All employees and visitors have to wear them in the yard or in the shop.
  7. They have, numerous times and there is nothing added to make it addictive. Its just your taste buds, just like other people (with a more refined palate ) are "addicted" Starbucks. I've asked countless people this who keep bringing up a $5 Starbucks cup of coffee and nobody has been able to provide any evidence ... last time I checked, their Venti (591ml) of coffee costs $2.36 including tax which is less than half of this mythical $5 Starbucks coffee. Cappucinnos, lattes, frappucinnos, machiatos, etc are not coffees they are premium espresso based drinks. Its just like calling a SunRype juice box a Booster smoothie .... its two different things OMG, thanks for the laugh! I'll ask you the same thing though, where is this mythical $5 Starbucks coffee? Price? 2 price increases in the last 6 months to remain *cough cough* "competitive", smaller than average cups and now charging extra for sleves is not even close to what I would call value for my money. Quality? Everything is pre-manufactured there these days, nothing is fresh anymore ... Iced Capps come out of a package for pete's sake ... blech! Speed? In the famous words of John Pinnette "I have to have coffee in the morning. I have to stop off at Starbucks on the way to Tim Hortons to wait for my coffee or I'd die!" (OK, I admit, I just changed the names a bit ) but seriously, even McDonalds is faster than Timmie's and thats not saying alot. Canadian? Ever since it was bought out by the Yanks ... its gone downhill. Should've kept it north of the border IMHO. Actually, it is a chemical addiction, one is addicted to the caffinee in coffee so its much more than a mind set. Take anyone who drinks coffee frequently and take them off it they'll be just as grumpy and show withdrawing symptoms as someone who smokes a pack a day and then quits. When I took my Canadian Citizenship pledge, that was actually in it ... Did it help? Yup, yup, yup and yup again.

    Safety vests

We have them at work - and thats the only time I'll ever wear one. Oh yeah, it's bright yellow with reflective silver stripes ... says "FirstCanada" and is 90% velcro.
  9. More like not enough .... (duck) Gotta love the internet for that :lol So, not to get too off topic here, but I'm sure most of us have seen the "Canada donut" ... thats the vanilla one with the little red maple leaf sprinkles on it. Now, I know they always put different sprinkles on that one like orange/brown for Halloween, red/green for Christmas, etc. But is it just me or would the little red maple leaf sprinkles be more fitting on the Maple Dip and Canadian Maple donuts and call them Canada donuts? I know a few other people who observed this as well.
  10. Vague information on the internet ... grrrr! Looking to learn to sail this summer and our local yacht club has a complete course for $165 but doesn't say if you actually get your Whitesail 3 certificate or not. To compare, there is another yacht club 60km down the road that states on the website that they give you the certificate but charges $470 for the course. Oh well, guess I gotta do it the ol' fashioned way and give them a call ... LOL!
  11. Actually, thanks to Quebecs silly language sign laws, its Tim Hortons (with out the apostrophe)
  12. And thats what most businesses count on (and I'm going to say that this Timmie's case is no different), that either the managers are bluffing and hope that the customer doesn't know their legal rights or that the manager really has no clue what they're talking about (and believe me, I've seen and worked for managers who really have no clue what the hell they're doing). But once the customer goes to the media or informs the manager their rights, thats when the legal department makes the manager know very clearly that he/she had better have their facts and stories bulletproof. Same with a lot of employees, its amazing how little they know if their actual rights through labour laws, they end up getting fired and don't fight back because they don't know .... its mind boggling.
  13. Anyone who knows me knows how much of a coffee addict I am so I'm seriously addicted to coffee no matter where it comes from As far as Timmie's goes, I have absolutly no special craving for theirs compared to other coffee's, in fact I find if rather salty for some reason so I only go there if there's no other place around. And I drink it black, stay away from me with that flavoured crap, I drink coffee because I love coffee not some silly flavour of the month club .... blech!
  14. Now its up to Timmie's legal department to justify the managers action and I have a gut feeling it'll be settled out of court because they know they'll lose. I could be wrong though and maybe the guy really was harassing employees, we'll just have to wait and see, that is if we ever hear of this again. Did they leave the store without paying? If not you have no legal rights to bound them or call the police, you only have the suspicion of shop lifting which more than likely won't hold up in a court of law as they haven't committed any crime. If a mystery shopper or employees observe people doing this, they can't do anything about it until the individual actually leaves the building or property without paying. If your company has banned, detained anyone for that and taken legal action, sorry but you'd lose. Chances are they were trying to shop lift, but legally you can't do anything about it until you prove they were which means they actually have to leave without paying. The law has a very different view point than yours. Personally, I doubt we'll hear anything of this case again ... but we'll just wait and see
  15. Sorry LOL ... thats what I hate about forums (and texts), its always so hard to make out any emotion. Sometimes when I re-read my posts it seems like they're rude at times but they're mostly meant to be light hearted ... hard to make that come across though. Same here, my mobile is the only phone I have ... don't see why I need 2 phones if I'm never home LOL
  16. LOL! I remember the payphones in Germany during the mid 90s before the mobile revolution kicked in. They were a real pain in the ass because very few of them accepted coins and cards it was either coin only or card only and always hard to hunt for one or the other depending if you had a card or coins lol.
  17. Anyone else stare at people using payphones? "Oh look honey ... a museum!"
  18. None of us know this though .... its all hear - say. I have to question why anyone who actually goes to Timmie's in the first place .... lol! Yeah, we're gonna have two price increases in six months to remain "competitive" yet bitch and complain about the HST as that might take business away as our products will then be too expensive. And their medium is about the size of an espresso shot anywhere else ... if I order a medium I don't expect some tiny cup half the size of a kids drink. LOL! Was he? Thats the managers side of the story, the customers side is that he was meerly complaing about a product. Who's to believe? Calling an employee stupid and useless is much different then complaining about a product. Agreed ...
  19. I think thats the same incident that I heard of in my earlier post. From what I've heard ... its been about 25 a day over the first week ... yikes! I'm thinking that I'm very glad I took my name off the list in the first stages
  20. I have it and I use it ... but I hate it when people abuse it LOL! Especially with the girlfriend example you gave, at first its all cutesy wutsey but then its just like "Oh my freakin' Lord ... leave me alone!" LOL But thats the exact point I'm trying to make, texting turns a relationship into a 24/7 relationship and there's a very good reason that there is no such thing as a 24/7 relationship ... they don't work . There's couple time and there's alone time ... turning everything into couple time is a sure recepie for disaster. I have a cell phone and I need one ... mine was kaputt for a couple of weeks in the summer and I found it very difficult with out it, and it just happened at the same time I was house sitting for a friend and I had just had my car accident so I was constantly on the phone making appointments etc. But I agree, it is a technology that really has spoiled us over just like the inernet has LOL.
  21. So I've heard through the grapevine that there was quite a bit of chaos earlier with operations. I personally know of two drivers who've already quit because they were tired of constantly being moved around from hotel to hotel to hotel and the lack of route training provided for them. One bus apparently clipped a concrete barrier and had quite the side panel damage. From another driver I know who's still up there, apparently quite a number of drivers have turned their backs on the lack of organization and training. In the two weeks he's been up there for training, he's had maybe a day and a half and the rest of the time he was just being moved from hotel to hotel. Another friend of mine who lives in the area also said that despite having 7 minute frequency on his regular route, passengers are being just driven by over and over again my clueless drivers. So he's walking to work now and he says the 45 minute hike is quicker than the 1 hour waiting for a bus to stop. Yet another friend of mine who got hired on as a bus cleaner was also given the responsibility of refueling buses and has had no proper training ... she had to be admitted to the hospital because no one demonstrated how the quick fuel nozzle works and she got doused with diesel including her eyes. So, from a transit spotters fan it sounds like a lot of fun but organization wise .... a major disaster.
  22. I think that in the coming years, we're going to see a more clear definition of photography/video laws ... its one thing to take a snapshot of something with someone in it as opposed to knowingly videotape someone with an intent. Its great to photograph evidence such as in a car accident, but to videotape someone and send it to their employer because you don't agree with their practices goes over the line IMHO. I agree with you, selfish nobrains like these really try to ruin it for the rest of the world such as you transitfanners. So a driver goes to take a piddle, grabs a coffee ... big deal. Call the office and make a complaint. For all I know (from a drivers point of you) he had to take a pee (and when I gotta go I go no matter how much anyone while moan and gripe on my bus and if anyone is taping me, they'll be off my bus faster than they can turn their phone off). Unfortunatly, sometimes the only places you can go are the places where you have to buy something. Take our system for example ... there are no washroom facilities what so ever so we have no choice but to go to businesses that require we buy something ... so if it takes us 7-8 minutes .... tough .... thats the way the cookie crumbles On another note, a huge pet peeve of mine is texting. Texting is a great way to communicate with someone if you're running late or you just wanna say a quick hello .... but why do people think they need to converse with you during texting? Seriously! If I'm not with you, I really don't find it neccessary to have to communicate with you and get a text from you every 30 bloody seconds. If I wanted to converse with you, I'd meet you somewhere for a coffee but I'm not meeting you for a coffee and there may be a very good reason for that like I'm freakin' busy right now so leave me alone .... grrrr!
  23. I'm assuming you're referring to incidents such as the driver who was taped going into a Timmies to take a piddle, grabbing a donut and coffee? This is my take on it ... its no one's right to video anyone in cases like this ... it is a huge invasion of personal privacy as far as I'm concerned. If you have a complaint, use the appropriate venues to rectifiy the problem ane let the employer deal with it. If the employer doesn't deal with it (if its a consistent problem) then take it to the next appropriate venue. But these constant videos being taken is just childish and and invasion of personal privacy.
  24. The way I see it, Macbook Airs and netbooks are just secondary computers, something to take with you while travelling. I have 3 computers myself, my desktop as my main computer, my laptop which I used for travelling (I bought it before netbooks came out) or sitting in bed and my netbook which I use more than the laptop now. I am up for a new computer this year though, so I'll probably trade in the desktop and laptop for a new bigger laptop that is powerful enough to be used for a main computer but can still be moved around the house and keep the netbook for travelling and coffeeshop visits. As far as the iPad goes, I just can't see it competing with much cheaper and more versitile netbooks.
